A four-engine amphibious aircraft, said to be the world’s largest and roughly the size of a Boeing 737, took its maiden flight in the coastal Chinese city of Zhuhai.

The AG600, piloted by four crew members, took off from an airport in the city of Zhuhai, Guangdong province, and remained in the air for about one hour before landing at the same airfield.

CGTN showed live footage of the AG600 lifting off from Zhuhai, located on the South China Sea coast. State media also claim that the AG600, which is roughly the size of a Boeing 737, is now the world’s largest amphibious aircraft, surpassing Japan’s ShinMaywa US-2 and the Russian-made Beriev Be-200.

Powered by four turboprop engines, the AG600 can airlift up to 50 people, and is capable of scooping up 12 tons of water in 20 seconds during firefighting missions, according to state media. The aircraft, which can cover a distance of more than 4,500 kilometers (2,800 miles), is able to take off and land on both ground and water.

Government-run Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) has been developing the aircraft for almost eight years. The manufacturer says the flying boat “will be of great importance to the country’s emergency rescue system and the building of strong sea power,” China Daily reports.

The AG600, due to its amphibious capability, may potentially be deployed to the South China Sea, where Beijing has territorial spats with neighboring Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Brunei, Reuters reports, citing state media.

Huang Lingcai, the AG600’s chief designer, told China Daily earlier this month that the flying boat can make round trips without refueling from the southern island province of Hainan to James Shoal, which is located close to Sarawak in Malaysian Borneo, but also claimed by China.

AVIC began development of the AG600 back in 2009. Construction of its first prototype began in March 2014 and was completed in July 2016. In April, the flying boat successfully performed its first taxiing test, and in early December, the government approved its maiden flight.

The corporation says it will carry on with test flights and will soon launch certification procedures for the AG600.

A new British start-up company has revealed its new concept vehicle. 

It comes just weeks after Volvo parent company, Geely, revealed its new the t was also shown to the world. 

The NeoXCraft, is being developed by Nottingham-based company Vehicle Redesign Company (VRCO).

What sets this vehicle apart is the fact it will be able to travel by air, road and water, something which has yet to be seen on a flying car. 

Each of these amphibious flying cars will cost £1.5 million.

Two passengers with a max weight of 180kg will be able to use the vehicle and travel up to speeds of 180 knots – which translates to around 210mph. 

The vehicles will also be able to travel at heights between 1,000ft and 3,000ft for around an hour. 

According to VRCO the car will be able to take off vertically from right outside your home. 

If motorists do not want to fly, they can also drive it like a normal car as the fans fold down for road use.

It will be controlled by an autonomous electric programme and 100 versions of the vehicle have already been placed. 

CEO and co-founder Daniel Hayes, 43, told the Derby Telegraph: “This is a new form of human transportation that’s fully multi-modal.

“It can take off vertically from your driveway, garden or wherever it’s safe.

“You can then land and use the road for the final part of your journey, get out and go into your workplace, and the car will park itself.

“Our vision of the next 10 years is that the shackles of commuting are falling away and it’s an age of ‘airvolution’.”

Despite what Steven Spielberg would have you believe, he did not invent storming beaches during war. World War I featured multiple operations that involved land and sea, and those conflicts are making their way into Electronic Arts’ and DICE’s Battlefield 1 shooter as part of the Turning Tides expansion due out in December and January.

These kinda content updates are crucial to games like Battlefield because they give the biggest fans a way to spend more money on the game. Publishers are increasingly relying on that revenue to make up for players waiting for discounted sale prices and the increased production costs of modern development.

EA and DICE posted a blog today that details what players can expect in Turning Tide. The new downloadable content is part of the $ 50 Battlefield 1 Premium Pass, which gets players access to the expansion two weeks before it goes live for everyone else who buys it separately. Turning Tides features four new maps, six new guns, and new military forces for you to play as.

The maps include Cape Helles, Achi Baba, Heligoland Bight, and Zeebrugge. Cape Helles and Achi Baba launch in December with the other two coming in January. Cape Helles has you rushing or defending beaches on the Gallipoli peninsula. Achi Baba, meanwhile, moves the Gallipoli peninsula fight further inland to a hilltop position.

As for the January maps, Heligoland Bight is a naval battle off the red cliffs of Rocky Cove. Zeebrugge re-creates a British assault on a Belgian port, which has players fighting on land, on the water, and in aerial vehicles.

Many of the above scenarios will feature the British Royal Marines, which is new to Battlefield 1. In the game, they are wearing their iconic blue uniforms.

Finally, the new weapons should mix up combat from previous Battlefield 1 engagements. They include the M1917 Trench Crabine, the Maschienpistole M1912/P.16, Faruhar-Hill, M1917 MG, Carcano M91 Carbine, and Type 38 Arisaka. Turning Tides also introduces the naval cutlass and grappling hook for up-close combat.

This is the third of four planned expansions for Battlefield 1. They Shall Not Pass and In The Name of the Tsar launched earlier this year. The Apocalypse DLC is due out in 2018.

HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England – Queen Elizabeth II’s stately royal barge “Gloriana” found itself sharing the River Thames with some quirky upstarts at the weekend – amphibious motor cars.

As the rowbarge – an ornate, gold-leaf and crest-bedecked vessel powered by 18 rowers – oared its way down river like something from a Canaletto painting, a flotilla of small floating automobiles putted by in the other direction.

The poles-apart meeting took place at the Thames Traditional Boat Festival in Fawley Meadows outside Henley-on-Thames in southern England.

The annual festival also attracted clinker-built rowing boats, Edwardian steamboats, traditional slipper launches, wooden canoes and an armada of the “Little Ships” that braved the Channel in 1940 to rescue British and allied forces at Dunkirk.
