Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was interrupted by two environmental activists during a Q&A session at the United Nations Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial conference in Vancouver.

The two young activists challenged Trudeau for his hypocrisy on the environment, specifically for his approval of Kinder Morgan’s controversial Trans Mountain pipeline last year.

“We are here as youth who are scared for our future because of climate change,” activist Hayley Zacks, 20, said at the conference on Wednesday, according to Global News.

“We voted for you in our first election, and we were so excited for you to be prime minister based on the promise of real action on climate change and reconciliation. But then you went and approved the Kinder Morgan pipeline and we cannot be climate leaders approving horrible and dangerous tar sands pipelines, that are going through unceded First Nations territory.”

“In Paris, you promised us a two-degree future, and then you went and approved the Kinder Morgan pipeline. The Kinder Morgan pipeline is going to increase emissions from the tar sands, it is going to poison our water, our land and everything we hold dear,” Zacks added.

Zacks was joined by fellow activist Jake Hubley, 24, as the pair held signs reading ‘Protect our future’ and ‘Stop Kinder Morgan.’ Trudeau thanked the pair for their comments but did not respond to any of the points they raised.

“Thank you for your questions, for your activism, keep up the activism, please, it’s great to see young people stepping forward and sharing their concerns and views. We certainly take those very seriously,” Trudeau said as the two were escorted out by security. Hubley and Zacks were questioned by police after their protest but were released shortly afterwards.

Trudeau championed environmentalism and promised an overhaul of the review process for energy projects, including Canada’s notoriously polluting tar sands whose tailing ponds are visible from space and have polluted vast swathes of Alberta.

Trudeau approved both Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain and Enbridge’s Line 3 pipelines in 2016 in an apparent 180 on his campaign pledges. He did not, however, approve the Northern Gateway pipeline, as he was backed into a corner following promises to the First Nations communities to protect the Great Bear Rainforest.

New details from US intelligence officials and a survivor of the deadly ambush near the Niger-Mali border that killed four US soldiers shine a light on an incident that has created a political firestorm in Washington.

What was supposed to be a reconnaissance mission to meet with local elders shifted to a kill-or-capture operation, taking them out on a mission for over 24 hours, according to an intelligence official in an ABC News report.

“They should have been up and back in a day,” the official told ABC News. “Because they were up there so f—— long on a mission that morphed, they were spotted, surveilled and ultimately hit.”

As the 12-person Special Forces detachment and 30 Nigerien partner forces embarked on their mission on the morning of October 3, they received intelligence reports that contact with an enemy force was “unlikely,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford said during a press conference on Monday.

When the US troops were heading back to base, however, they received a call to kill or capture a target that was considered to be one of the “top three objectives in Niger,” several intelligence sources told ABC News. Codenamed “Naylor Road,” the target was affiliated with Al Qaeda and ISIS, ABC News reported. Dunford also confirmed on Monday that a group of ISIS-affiliated tribal fighters attacked the US troops.

A second Special Forces team was supposed to meet with the original team for the revised mission, ABC News said. When the second team was unable to do so, the original team was ordered to continue their mission — which resulted in nothing substantial.

The team eventually stopped at a village on the morning of October 4, where a village elder was “obviously and deliberately trying to stall them” by displaying an ill child to the troops and grabbing a goat to prepare for them, sources told ABC News. When the troops departed, they came under fire from militants, the survivor of the battle said.

The survivor also praised the bravery of Sgt. La David Johnson, one of the soldiers killed during the battle, according to ABC News.

“Without a doubt, his courage and bravery in action that day were above and beyond expectation,” the survivor said. “He died fighting for his brothers on his team. You can quote that verbatim.”

“He grabbed any and every weapon available to him,” the survivor added. “The guy is a true war hero.”

Nigerien sources also suggested that US troops were tracking down an ISIS-affiliated target and were intentionally delayed, according to a Voice of America report.

But Moussa Askar, a specialist in terrorism in Africa’s Sahel region who was briefed on the attack by defense officials, said a fake terror attack took place nearby, to which US forces responded. There, the troops were ambushed by militants with automatic rifles and heavy weaponry.

Despite the initial intelligence assessment before the troops set off on their mission, locals have painted a bleaker picture of performing military operations in the area.

“The attackers, the bandits, the terrorists have never lacked accomplices among local populations,” Almou Hassane, the mayor of the village near which US troops were attacked, told Voice of America. Following the attack, the village chief was reportedly arrested and placed in government custody.

Around 800 US troops are operating in Niger, along with 4,000 French troops in West Africa, according to Dunford. US forces have reportedly been in the region for more than 20 years and are stationed there to “defeat violent extremism in Africa,” in addition to dealing with the “global threat with foreign fighters, Dunford said on Monday.

“This area is inherently dangerous,” Dunford said. “We’re there because ISIS and Al Qaeda are operating in that area.”

For most a trip to the fairground is a fun experience, but that is not the case for Rick Grimes and Michonne who encounter more than just a dodgy goldfish in an upcoming clip from The Walking Dead. 

In their hunt to find supplies for new recruit, Jadis (played by Pollyanna McIntosh), Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) find themselves surrounded by walkers. 

In the preview to Say Yes, Michonne tells Rick that they should probably head home, presumably after they’ve found some of the guns that Jadis and The Scavengers so desperately want. 

But it’s never enough for Rick, who tells his lover: “Just a little more, ok?”

As is the norm for The Walking Dead, the pair encounter a bunch of walkers and an innocent day out becomes a fight to survive. 

Meanwhile, the story is hotting up for Rosita (Christian Serratos) as it appears that she’s gone on a lone-scavenge, which is never a good idea when there’s walkers around. 

Sporting a facial wound from Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) after she tried to shoot him, Rosita appears to have a very tense conversation with someone.

She tells the mystery person: “If you could show me more people, more guns, more time… I can’t just wait.”

Who this person is has been kept under wraps, but early theories suggest that she could have run into the Oceanside group previously encountered by Tara (Alanna Masterson) in the first half of the series. 

With it looking like Tara will keep her promise of keeping the Oceanside a secret, will war-hungry Rosita spill the beans to Rick?

Episode 11 of The Walking Dead will air tonight on FOX at 9pm.

Last night saw the zombie series return for its second episode after its mid-season break with Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) and his group trying to enlist help to start a war against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

And the latest instalment called New Best Friends picked up from the moment Rick was seen smiling in the previous episode, despite being surrounded by a large group of mysterious individuals holding murderous weapons.

The scene is a new creation that hadn’t featured in Robert Kirkman’s comic book series which the horror series is based on.

So fans were no doubt anxious to find out what would happen next.

Rick meets Jadis (Pollyanna Macintosh) the leader of the group and he immediately asks them if they want to join the fight against Negan which earns him a swift no.

But he then gets ‘auditioned’ by the leader – to become their ally – who pushes him into a pit where a walker covered in spike armour awaits him.

Battling for his life, Rick manages to kill the beast by burying him in the garbage and stabs him.

Proving himself a worthy winner despite cutting his hand, Jadis agrees that her people will join Rick’s fight against The Saviours but there is still a catch, he has to deliver them “lots and lots” of guns.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about what’s going to happen next with Rick, actor Andrew says: “He’s got to get the guns! And we’ve got an intelligent audience. I think they may know where some guns are stashed.”

When Rick first met Jadis who appears as a cold tight-lipped mysterious leader, Andrew says there was a “sexual” feeling between the two characters.

He continued: “There was a combative but also kind of a sexual, flirtatious, strange, weird dynamic that happened quite instantaneously.

“And Jadis was so odd and strange, and I think Rick is kind of amused by them, but also inspired.”

The Walking Dead airs tonight on FOX at 9pm.

The 49-year-old could be heard screaming on the ITV breakfast programme after the primate came a little bit too close to her liking.

She was seen backing away from the animatronic monkey as it came and sat next to her on the Good Morning Britain sofa and appeared to be getting friendly.

However, once the gorilla settled down, Kate could be seen visibly relaxing and even patting its fur and getting quite friendly with him.

“He’s not real but he’s a brilliant version and the closest version we’re going to get to,” Kate told viewers.

“I’ll tell you, he’s better looking than many men!” Kate told her co-host Ben Shephard, who quipped: “This is like your wedding photo!”

The 42-year-old went on to joke with a laugh: “You’re flirting with him!” and said he was going to leave Kate with the gorilla while he carried on presenting the programme.

Viewers were hit with the strange scenes on Good Morning Britain after the show featured an item looking at the rise of mountain gorillas in Uganda after recent statistics revealed that the species was experiencing a baby boom.

Conservationist Tim Henshall was on the ITV series to talk about the positive effects of tourism on the African nation. 

“We’re really seeing a turnaround with mountain gorillas and we’re seeing this baby boom,” he explained to the hosting duo.

Tim added: “Tourism is playing a major part,” before revealing that five new babies had been born among the 13 gorilla families. 

The latest scenes come a day after the self-confessed Bridget Jones of Good Morning Britain, Kate, was left red-faced when a wardrobe malfunction from last March was brought up on the programme. 

Ben and co-host Susanna Reid mentioned the embarrassing moment Kate flashed her knickers at the nation on live television. 

“I think now we’ve mentioned it, we’ll have to bring it up in the programme!” said Susanna, 46.

Ben said that the day that Kate released an autobiography, readers would be able to see everything.

Kate hastily added through laughter: “Not liked by me, any of this!” 

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
