Alligators will eat absolutely everything and have powerful jaws – so it’s best not to get to close to them.

However, an incredible viral video from the USA shows a 21-year-old girl getting very near to just such a creature.

The video shows Makenzie Noland, from Nebraska, knee-deep in the same water as an alligator.

She is actively encouraging the reptile to come closer and is feeding it with her bare hands.

The alligator – which she calls Tex – is 14 foot long and is described by Makenzie as her “best friend.”

She certainly shows no fear as she beckons the huge reptile towards her as a crowd looks on.

Using encouraging words she persuades Tex to rear his head high out of the water and open his mouth so she can drop his food in.

“Good boy!” she says as she wades backwards through the water. She is dressed in just shorts and a vest – and would be helpless if the alligator chose to attack.

Luckily, he seems fairly placid. He is, after all, being fed. Makenzie continues to walk backwards using very obvious beckoning gestures with her hand.

She puts her hand on the tip of his snout and says “Up! Up!” so the reptile once again raises himself up into the air – his teeth on full display.

Makenzie drops the food into his mouth and the reptile subsides back into the murky water.

She performs the trick two more times as she persuades him to come further out of the lake onto hard ground.

The girl posted the video to Twitter where it has been viewed nearly 85,000 times.

She captioned the clip, “Me calling Tex from his den to do a show at Gator Country!”

Gator Country is the largest Alligator Adventure Park/Sanctuary in Southeast Texas.

Twitter users have been impressed by Makenzie’s impressive and very brave display.

“This is crazy! I was nervous just watching,” one person commented on the video.

“This is amazing,” another posted, while another wrote, “Playing with fire. But extremely impressive none the less.”

Male alligators grow to 10 to 15 feet in length on average and can weigh 1,000 pounds. They feed mostly on fish, turtles, snakes, and small mammals, but are opportunists, and, if hungry, will eat pretty much anything. They have eaten humans in rare instances, according to National Geographic.

A massive alligator, nicknamed Chubbs, has once again been spotted in Florida roaming along the clean-cut grass and shocking visitors at the Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Palmetto.

Strolling the course and casually enjoying the warmth of sunlight, the massive 15-foot reptile was not shy of cameras. While the enormous predator instilled fears in those who happened to come across it for the first time on Saturday, Chubbs has already become somewhat of a celebrity figure for local golfers, after it was first spotted at Buffalo Creek back in 2016.

Maintaining his celebrity status, the king-sized gator who has managed to stay alive over the years has been repeatedly captured roaming his domain and providing a thrilling experience for those lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the crocodilian.

The management of Buffalo Creek Golf Course is well aware of Chubbs’ residential status and remain calm about it, as long as it keeps its distance from their clients.

Shoppers at a Jacksonville, Florida, convenience store were in for a surprise when Robby Stratton stopped by on a recent beer run with an unusual companion in tow: a 4-foot-long alligator.

Upon entering the store while holding the gator, Stratton yelled out, “Y’all got beer still? Y’all ain’t out, are y’all?” local outlet Action News Jax reported.

Today’s example involves an 11-foot-long (3.35 meterS) American alligator that took itself for a swim in a Sarasota County couple’s indoor swimming pool. Yes, indoor.

Ex Machina director Alex Garland is close to releasing his next film, Annihilation, a highly-anticipated (especially by me) adaptation of the first book of The Southern Reach Trilogy. With a killer cast that includes Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, and Oscar Isaac and the promise of something strange and beautiful, this could be the next surreal sci-fi classic that has everybody talking. Save for a few set photos, there’s been very little released from Garland’s new film, but now we have our first real look via an official image. See the Annihilation first look below.

The three books that make up Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach trilogy – Annihilation, Authority and Acceptance – involve investigations into a location known as Area X, a mysterious, uninhabited area in the United States that nature has slowly begun to reclaim following a major, world-changing event. Several teams of expeditions have gone into the area to explore Area X, often with disturbing results. Annihilation focuses on the 12th expedition into the area, with the team made up of a biologist (Portman), a psychiatrist (Leigh), an anthropologist (Rodriguez) and a surveyor (Thompson). Without giving too much away, let’s just say their expedition doesn’t go according to plan.

EW (by way of IndieWire) has the first official image from the film, which features Portman’s character examining a mutant alligator while Thompson watches in the background. “It is their first tangible encounter with something strange,” Garland says in the EW piece. “The alligator has physical elements to it that should not belong on an alligator. They’re starting to get their heads around how weird the place is.”

Author VanderMeer, while clearly not an unbiased source, has seen the film adaptation of his novel and had nothing but praise for it, saying the film was “mind-blowing, surreal, extremely beautiful, extremely horrific,” and adding.:

It’s actually more surreal than the novel. There are a couple places where I was like, “I might need an anchor here.” The ending is so mind-blowing and in some ways different from the book that it seems to be the kind of ending that, like 2001 or something like that, people will be talking about around the watercooler for years… Visually, it’s amazing. I must say that and that’s all I probably should say.

As a big fan of the book trilogy, I’m very excited to see what Garland has done, especially with such a great cast. The only complaint I have so far: Isaac is apparently playing Portman’s husband, which is a rather small role in the book. I’m sure he’ll be okay in the part, but there’s a much bigger character in the second and third books that Isaac would’ve been perfect for. Beyond that, all I can hope is that Annihilation makes enough money that the next two books in the series quickly get a greenlight. I don’t want another David Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo scenario here, where we get a great first movie then the trilogy is never finished.

Annihilation opens February 23, 2018.

A man forced out of his home during Hurricane Harvey had to confront a scaly squatter upon his return – a nine-foot alligator.

Lake Houston resident Brian Foster found the unwanted guest after enlisting the help of a clean-up crew to assess the flood damage in the wake of the devastating storm that has left tens of thousands homeless.

Harris County Police posted a picture of the alligator among the clutter and debris under the dining room table Friday. The Texas Game Warden was later called in to remove the animal.

“Upon arrival, deputies were met by a large alligator who made his way into this flooded home,” the post read.

Social media has been awash with fake pictures of dangerous predators in the floodwaters around Houston following Hurricane Harvey.

A massive alligator has made a bit of a splash online after video emerged of authorities trying to drag the resistant reptile out of a Florida family’s swimming pool.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reported that the 8ft-long (2.5 meters) gator was spotted lurking at the bottom of a pool in Venice, south of Tampa, by a cleaner.

Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to the incident hooking a wire around the creature’s neck as they attempted to remove it from the pool.

Video of the incident shows the gator fiercely resisting capture, thrashing about in the pool.

The trapper relocated the gator to a safer and more “appropriate” location, according to police who issued a reminder that it was mating season in Florida meaning female alligators are on the prowl for suitable areas to lay their eggs.#

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Deputy Lori Clark dubbed the creature the ‘Memorial Day Alligator’ as the incident occurred on the US federal holiday, Monday.

She also warned pool owners in the state to invest in a protective covers.

The footage shows a man nonchalantly walking across a golf course with his hands in his pockets.

An alligator can be seen lying in the sun at the edge of the green, next to an expanse of water.

Without the slightest pause or sign of trepidation, he approaches the alligator from behind and gives it a quick slap on the tail with his unprotected hand.

The reptilian beast responds by immediately jumping into the water and swimming away.

Filmed on the PGA Tour, the video is of golfer Cody Gribble – who clearly doesn’t have a fear of alligators.

The clip was uploaded to image sharing site Imgur, where many viewers were impressed by Cody’s bravery.

One wrote: “This must be Steve Irwin’s long lost cousin that they never mentioned.”

Another commented: “The first time a golfer has looked tough since happy Gilmore.”

This comes after Express.co.uk reported on the moment a great white shark charged into a cage of tourists.

The deadly sea predators lurk in the waters of South Africa, luring tourists every year who hope to catch a glimpse. 

But nothing could have prepared these travellers for the show they were about to witness. 

Shot from a metal shark cage in the ocean, footage showed a menacing grey fin zooming along through the waves. 

Headed straight for the bait dangling off the side of the cage, the great white shark stalked closer.

Suddenly the enormous fish latched onto the bait, until it touched the metal bars of the cage. 

The tourists just behind the bars – mere inches away from the giant shark – could be heard screaming in panic. 

As it writhed around trying to tear the bait to shreds, the shark flung itself over towards the camera.
