“You’re spreading hope through dance,” Oti signed off before Strictly judge Shirley Ballas weigh in with some more thankful words.

“Hi Sheila,” Shirley said, bringing an excited response from the One Show guest.

Shirley then said: “May I personally, from one dance teacher to another dance teacher, thank you, Sheila, for everything you’ve done.”

“I’m extremely overwhelmed,” Sheila admitted moments after. “I’m extremely touched and I’m feeling quite tearful.”

Aljaz Skorjanec and Janette Manrara’s future plans ‘up in the air’ after Strictly final https://briefnews.eu/aljaz-skorjanec-and-janette-manraras-future-plans-up-in-the-air-after-strictly-final/ https://briefnews.eu/aljaz-skorjanec-and-janette-manraras-future-plans-up-in-the-air-after-strictly-final/#respond Sat, 19 Dec 2020 02:26:54 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/aljaz-skorjanec-and-janette-manraras-future-plans-up-in-the-air-after-strictly-final/

Aljaz, 30, will be supporting his wife Janette, 36, this evening as she performs in her first-ever Strictly Come Dancing final with singing sensation HRVY, 21. The pair are on course to win the Glitterball Trophy after their former co-stars, including the BBC show professional dancer’s husband, were booted out of the competition. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent rules put in place, the married couple have had to live away from one another so they could form support bubbles with their partners. After such a trying year, they would have liked to have travelled abroad but it seems the current climate could put a stop to their future plans.

Speaking with Express.co.uk and other publications ahead of the final, the Cuban-born professional dancer explained what the future holds for her and Aljaz.

Janette said: “I’ve started packing up already, bits and bobs in the flat that I’m in because finally on Sunday, I go home.

“I think these 11 weeks is the longest I have been away from Aljaz,” she added, expressing how much she has missed her other half.

Of what she and her spouse wanted to do over the festive period, HRVY’s partner replied: “Our Christmas plans are still up in the air because of COVID and the guidelines.

“We are hoping we will get to go to Miami to see my family and spend some time with my grandparents that I’ve not seen in a while but Sunday I cannot wait to be home on my couch just resting with my husband.”

Since the pair began a relationship some years ago, they have always taken it in turns to see each other’s families over Christmas.

Last December, the pair travelled to Slovenia to see Aljaz’s parents after they were both booted out of the competition early.

This means Janette hasn’t seen her loved ones across the pond in almost two years and she is desperate to see them.

Even though they might not be able to travel this year, it seems the talented pair could be starting a brood of their own very soon.

Appearing on an Instagram Live session with her co-star Gorka Marquez, 30, recently, Janette joked about her plans for the future.

After seeing her fellow finalist’s daughter Mia, the Cuban-born professional said: “Aljaz and I are going to have a baby and move to Manchester.”

“Well, you have the best time now, you know, you’re at home together, no dancing… there is nothing better to do,” the father-of-one jokingly replied.

Speaking on Lorraine earlier this year, Aljaz and his wife referred to having children of their own sometime in the future.

Janette said in February: “Especially as a woman, it’s a big decision, for me whenever we do decide to have a child.

“We talk about it all the time. We adore kids. You should see us around babies,” the professional dancer explained.

“We get so broody, both of us,” Aljaz’s wife continued before confirming: “We are definitely going to have children.”

Before any of their plans can come to fruition, HRVY and his partner need to see if they can claim the Glitterball Trophy.

According to the latest odds from Coral bookmakers, the couple stand in good stead to become champions of the show at 7/4.

However, they first need to defeat frontrunner Bill Bailey, 55, who is the favourite to secure victory at 8/11.

Spokesperson Harry Aitkenhead said: “It’s time for the Strictly Come Dancing final and we make Bill Bailey the one to beat and the odds on favourite.

“If Bill falls short, then HRVY looks the one to swoop in and lift the Glitterball Trophy,” the bookmaker added.

Strictly Come Dancing concludes Saturday at 6pm on BBC One.

But as Aljaz said, they are just happy the show came back for another series.

“We were just so happy to be dancing again,” the dancer remarked.

“Aljaz and I are normally on tour for the rest of the year and this year we had none of our tours go through,” Janette continued.

“For us to just dance again and be on the show again and be teaching and creating and choreographing, it’s just for us such a privilege.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2020 kicked off with a bang this evening on BBC One as each of this year’s celebrities found out which professional dancer they’d been paired with for the upcoming series. Pro Janette Manrara found herself coupled up with YouTube star and singer HRVY while her husband Aljaz Skorjanec teamed up with Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo. However, in order to stick to social distancing guidelines, Janette opened up on how she’s no longer living with her other half in order to form a bubble with HRVY.

After announcing their pairing, Claudia Winkleman asked Janette: “You have lived with Aljaz for 10 years,

“But for this, to form this bubble, you are both living alone. How is it?”

The Strictly pair had a humourous response, as she replied: “I love it,” before breaking into laughter.

She later backtracked, however: “No, I miss him terribly, but we’re doing what’s best for the show.”

When HRVY asked Janette what kind of a teacher she was, Janette didn’t hold back.

“I like working really, really hard,” she told her partner. “I will be honest,

“If it’s not good, I will tell you,” she added as HRVY promised he’d give her “100 percent”.

The giddy duo then admitted they were going to be “hyper” together, with HRVY saying it’s like a “fiery mess, but in a good way”.

Janette and HRVY were both over the moon with the fact they’d been paired together, as Claudia brought up the fact HRVY wanted a “smaller” partner.

“I’ll be honest with you, I was losing sleep,” he told Claudia. “Look at my arms, they’re not exactly the biggest,

“So I didn’t know if I’d be able to lift anyone up. So when you (Janette) came through the door, I was just buzzing.”

The pair then demonstrated on the launch show a lift to show they had what it takes on the dancefloor.

Aljaz, on the other hand, has been paired with Clara Amfo who’s best known as a TV presenter and radio DJ.

Janette and Aljaz married in 2017 and have both been on Strictly since 2013.

Taking to Twitter after he’d been teamed with Clara, Aljaz said: “Here we are. Thrilled to be dancing with@claraamfo. Can’t wait to dance every day, all day again. A beautiful launch of @bbcstrictly. So so so.. Great to be back. Let’s do this.”

But who’ll make it further in the contest between the married pair?

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One.

Roger Federer vs Aljaz Bedene LIVE: Latest Australian Open score as Federer takes lead https://briefnews.eu/roger-federer-vs-aljaz-bedene-live-latest-australian-open-score-as-federer-takes-lead/ https://briefnews.eu/roger-federer-vs-aljaz-bedene-live-latest-australian-open-score-as-federer-takes-lead/#respond Tue, 16 Jan 2018 09:19:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/roger-federer-vs-aljaz-bedene-live-latest-australian-open-score-as-federer-takes-lead/

Federer is a heavy favourite to end this fortnight in Melbourne as champion once again, following on from his 2017 triumph when he beat Rafael Nadal in an epic five-set final.

Last year, the Swiss was not perfect in his first round. He faced Austria’s Jurgen Melzer, who had been forced to qualify for the tournament, but lost the second set in an unexpected wobble.

But that match came after six months out and he was understandably rusty. This time around, Federer looked imperious at the Hopman Cup, his first competition of the year.

It means winning will be a tall order for Bedene, who is the world No 51 and has never played Federer before.

Express Sport brings you all the action from Melbourne.

Roger Federer vs Aljaz Bedene LIVE

(* denotes next to serve)

*Federer 6-3, 5-4 Bedene

Not a good time for a double, serving at 3-5 and 15-15. Federer then hits a stellar crosscourt forehand as Bedene hesitates at the baseline to bring up to set points.

But a rare Swiss mis-hit sees the first go and Bedene comes forward to finish off the second after serving out wide.

He has to save another with a first serve after Federer attacks a second at deuce but when the No 2 seed’s drop shot isn’t quite cute enough, Bedene gets a game point which he converts. Federer to serve for a two-set lead.

Federer 6-3, 5-3 Bedene*

Another ruthless service hold from the world No 2. Bedene will again serve to stay in the set.

*Federer 6-3, 4-3 Bedene

It’s nice to see Federer at least being pushed a little here. Bedene is striking well, which might not win him the match but it will prolong it. Holds to 15 but remains a break down.

Federer 6-3, 4-2 Bedene*

A DOUBLE-FAULT! He IS human. However, it was already 40-0 – but Bedene senses an opportunity and when Federer doesn’t quite put away a short ball he punches a pass down the line.

But Federer holds one point later.

*Federer 6-3, 3-2 Bedene

Bedene is moving pretty well but Federer is doing so even better, movng forward whenever he can. Credit to the world No 51, who is driven to deuce from 40-15 but withstands the pressure and hangs on.

Federer 6-3, 3-1 Bedene*

Bedene hasn’t done much wrong in this match – beating Federer requires more than that though – and he forces his first two break points by hanging tough. However, Bedene nets the return for the first and in the second, a point the Slovenian plays well, Federer skips round the backhand and batters the ball down the line. Opportunity snuffed.

*Federer 6-3, 2-1 Bedene

We can turn off Bagelwatch for a while (not that I’d ever activated it but some might have done watching that first break). Bedene is on the board in set No 2.

Federer 6-3, 2-0 Bedene*

Federer goes to serve-and-volley for the first two points of the game, executing perfectly and holds to 15.

*Federer 6-3, 1-0 Bedene

Not a good start for Bedene, who finds himself two break points down and Federer converts the first seemingly at will. He steps well inside the baseline against the second serve, driving a backhand return deep into the court and smashing away the resulting ball. Federer breaks first in the second.

ROGER FEDERER WINS THE FIRST SET 6-3

Very typically smooth from the defending champion. He seals set point, eventually after dumping two into the net, with an aggressive point that is a microcosm for the set. The serve is good and he moves in to finish it off.

*Federer 5-3 Bedene

Nerves? What nerves? Bedene holds to love, forcing Federer to serve it out. Nice one, Aljaz.

Federer 5-2 Bedene*

After 13 straight points on his serve, Federer has finally lost one. Not much consolation for Bedene, who is serving to stay in the set after just 21 minutes.

*Federer 4-2 Bedene

The Slovenian stops the rot after three straight games against him with a hold to 15 that should make feel a whole lot better.

Federer 4-1 Bedene*

A third love hold for Federer. Perhaps the only solace for Bedene is that the Swiss did miss three of his first serves in that game…

*Federer 3-1 Bedene

Bedene quickly finds himself 15-40, facing break points agianst Federer for the first time in his career. He battles nobly to save them and another at advantage but the fourth is a bridge too far and Federer breaks for the first time at the 2018 Australian Open.

Federer 2-1 Bedene*

Federer sits down for the first time in the match without losing a point on serve. He still hasn’t missed a first serve either. This is just scary.

*Federer 1-1 Bedene

Against Nadal yesterday, it took Victor Estrella Burgos more than 20 minutes to get on the board. Bedene has managed it in just four. That will settle a few nerves.

Federer 1-0 Bedene*

Federer’s agression has become a hallmark of his late-career play, as has his serving. First game, he lands four first serves and holds to love. Woof.

8.10am: Players are on court, toss is done, Federer to serve first. They’ll have a little hit and then we will be underway in Melbourne. Federer is, almost, back.

7.45am: Nadal? Wins in three. Djokovic? Wins in three. Federer? Surely…

It would be easy to say their is the pressure of the weight of expectation on the back of Federer, but I don’t think the man ever feels it.

For Bedene, now flying the Slovenian again after failing to win his appeal to play for Great Britain in the Davis Cup, this is a massive uphill battle – bookmakers Betfair have Federer as a 1/50 favourite.

They’ll be on court in 15 minutes’ time.

Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Gemma Atkinson stunned as Aljaz HALTS It Takes Two https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-gemma-atkinson-stunned-as-aljaz-halts-it-takes-two/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-gemma-atkinson-stunned-as-aljaz-halts-it-takes-two/#respond Tue, 12 Dec 2017 22:06:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-gemma-atkinson-stunned-as-aljaz-halts-it-takes-two/

Host Zoe Ball quizzed the Slovenian: “Aljaž, you’ve avoided the dance off until now. Were you surprised then to be in the bottom two?”

“You are always surprised if you are in the bottom two and as soon as we were…” he began, before squinting at the cameras to see what was written below his name on the screen.

It read: “Look behind the sofa,” under his name and Aljaz, 27, began to look around, which left Gemma, 33, visibly worried.

“Look behind the sofa? Is something going to jump out?” the Emmerdale star asked nervously.

Aljaž laughed as he joked: “Well, there’s a big Christmas tree there first. Right there.”

But his comment did little to reassure Gemma, with Zoe having to clarify: “No, nothing is going to jump out I promise.”

Aljaž then pulled out a long piece of card which had his name printed on it and a piece of string attached so that he could wear it around his neck.

“On no you didn’t! Look at it! It’s brilliant!” he exclaimed. “I got my own. It’s amazing and easy to read as well. Little things that make you happy.”

Following the brief interruption, Aljaž went back to his comment on Sunday’s results show, continuing: “Yes, you are always surprised when you are in the bottom two and especially in the semi-final when the stakes are that high.

“So as soon as we heard our names, we went backstage and we really, really composed ourselves and said lets just go out there.”

The Final airs Saturday on One at 6.30pm while It Takes Two airs weekdays on BBC Two at 6.30pm.

Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Aljaz drops Gemma Atkinson Rumba romance revelation https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-aljaz-drops-gemma-atkinson-rumba-romance-revelation/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-aljaz-drops-gemma-atkinson-rumba-romance-revelation/#respond Tue, 12 Dec 2017 20:07:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-aljaz-drops-gemma-atkinson-rumba-romance-revelation/

The pair were chatting to host Zoe Ball about preparing for the sensual routine, which earned high praise from head judge Shirley Ballas, when the professional dancer dropped the bombshell.

Speaking about how she found the challenge, Gemma, 33, commented: “It was a very hard dance to do and straight from the rehearsal room I was struggling to get it. But I think it went okay on the night.

“I loved it. It was a great song. But it was weird doing it with Aljaž because he’s like my bro.”(sic)

Aljaž then went on to reveal how he got Gemma in a romantic mood for the performance, explaining: “We did crack it.

“It’s one of those, I always try, whenever you do the Rumba, you don’t practice romance in rehearsals.

“You want to make it real and you don’t want to act it so as soon as we heard that, ‘Dancing the Rumba…’ Gemma has one particular person that she always switches on when she hears their name. So I said, two words, and it goes like, ‘Tom Hardy’.”

Gemma blushed as she confessed it was true, laughing: “He said, ‘For this dance I am Tom Hardy’, and I was like, ‘Oh okay’.”

The moment came after Aljaž, 27, halted the show when he was given an early birthday present in the form of his own name tag.

The Slovenian dancer was elated when he found a long piece of card with his name scribbled across it behind the sofa on the BBC Two show.

“Look at it! It’s brilliant!” he exclaimed, leaving the Emmerdale actress speechless with his reaction.

The finale airs Saturday on One at 6.30pm while It Takes Two airs weekdays on BBC Two at 6.30pm.

Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Gemma Atkinson and Aljaz speak out after Debbie McGee drama https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-gemma-atkinson-and-aljaz-speak-out-after-debbie-mcgee-drama/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-gemma-atkinson-and-aljaz-speak-out-after-debbie-mcgee-drama/#respond Mon, 20 Nov 2017 10:58:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-gemma-atkinson-and-aljaz-speak-out-after-debbie-mcgee-drama/

The duo admitted it was a shock to see Paul Daniels’ widow in the bottom two before Jonnie Peacock was sent home by the judges.

The actress went on to speak out about claims the panel had been “over-marking” the 59-year-old, following her Samba to a Spice Girls medley.

During their interview with hosts Dan Walker and Louise Minchin, when asked if they had been surprised to see Debbie perform again, Aljaž, 27, commented: “Very much so.

“This whole season there has been shock exits, the first a couple of weeks ago. It just shows you that it is a very open season and you always have to come back every single week.”

Aljaž continued: “Debbie is an incredible dancer and an amazing performer. Giovanni [Pernice] is one of my best mates and you never know who is going to be in the dance-off. All we can do is rehearse as hard as we can and try and not be there.”

Meanwhile, it was a great week for Gemma who found herself second on the leaderboard behind Alexandra Burke thanks to their elegant American Smooth.

But, amid claims of “favouritism” towards Debbie, the 33-year-old admitted: “We always just focus on what we’re doing with our blinkers on… It’s the public ultimately.

“No matter how good a dancer you are or how good you’re progressing, it’s the public that have the decision whether you stay or go. That’s what we have to keep in mind and thank you so much to everyone who has got us this far.”

The pair also remarked on Paralympian Jonnie, claiming he has been “such a gent” throughout the whole process.

Gemma added: “Every week we are there with him and he is such a gentleman, but he’s also got a really funny streak, a dry sense of humour – we’ve had so much fun with him. He’s going to be missed.

And today, reflecting on her performance on her Berkshire show, the former magician’s secret revealed a huge secret about Gemma Atkinson and Aljaž Škorjanec’s take on the dance.

Looking back on how she thought she performed, the 59-year-old noted: “The Samba roll did take me a few days to get right.”

She then went on to explain to listeners what the move entailed, commenting: “Towards the end of the dance it is where Giovanni and I, we both bend forward together and do a circle with our bodies and our arms.

“It is slow, quick, quick, and your arms are in a certain way.”

Revealing why she believes she was marked generously for the difficult routine, Debbie continued: “Why Shirley [Ballas] liked it is because celebs don’t ever do a proper Samba roll in Strictly, or so I’ve been told.”

Paul Daniels’ widow then revealed that one of her fellow contestants has ruled out trying to perform the move if they progress to the next stage of the competition.

“Gemma was telling me that if they get through, they’ve got a Samba coming up,” she remarked. “And Aljaž said, ‘We won’t be doing those and if we do I’ll be facing you’. It’s much more difficult than it looks.

Fans of the BBC series will have to wait and see if Gemma and Aljaž will be given the chance to perform Samba but last night .

Head judge Shirley, 57, told the 33-year-old that the performance had a “stunning” effect on her.

“Oh my goodness and beyond, you must be a really good student you listen, listen and listen some more,” she commented.

“You must be a great lady to listen to the way the man is leading. Your arm styling, you made me quite emotional actually.

“You were off to the right, the correct side of the body, head to the right place and your energy was wonderful.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Aljaz SLAMS Shirley Ballas after Gemma Atkinson break down https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-aljaz-slams-shirley-ballas-after-gemma-atkinson-break-down/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-aljaz-slams-shirley-ballas-after-gemma-atkinson-break-down/#respond Tue, 14 Nov 2017 20:41:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-aljaz-slams-shirley-ballas-after-gemma-atkinson-break-down/

Speaking on It Takes Two, he explained that he was not angry with the former star and it was unfair to slam her when she had only been dancing for 10 weeks.

Host Zoe Ball reminded viewers at home of Shirley’s comment to Gemma: “You’ve got to get your devotion and motion to come out as emotion.”

She then revealed that they had made a mug for the soap actress with the criticism printed on it but Aljaž was far from impressed.

He hit back at the head judges’ remark, exclaiming: “It’s a lovely saying and it looks great on a cup but Gemma has been doing this for 10 weeks now.

“I knew from day one that it is going to be the hardest ballroom dance that we are going to tackle and with all the spins and all the turns, we had to fix the posture for her to be able to do it properly for her to have something to focus on in the room.

“And you know there might have been a moment in that dance that the face wasn’t fully engaged and portraying the story that there should have been. But, I think it was impressive for Gemma to get through a Viennese Waltz.”

Aljaž proceeded to hand the mug back to Zoe, adding: “There were so many steps and so many changes.

“So, I forgive my partner who has danced for 10 weeks that her face wasn’t engaged and so we’re going to put that mug here.”

It comes after as Shirley told her: “You messed up.”

Explaining her criticism, the head judge went on: “You had some fairly decent natural turns and you had some nice slows in there.

“Appreciate that with the music. But we had some mess up over here on the fleckerl!”
