The Chile forward injured his hamstring in training on Thursday and will miss Saturday’s trip to Southampton and Wednesday’s home clash with former club Arsenal. “Alexis sustained a hamstring injury in training on Thursday which requires further investigation to confirm severity,” a statement from the club said. It marks the latest of a long line of setbacks for the 29-year-old since his move from Arenal in January. He has started only seven matches this season and was left out of the squad for the Champions League win over Young Boys.= Sanchez is likely to be out for between two and four weeks and might have now played his last game for the club if reports that say he is set to leave come to pass. It is claimed he has told friends he is ready to quit Old Trafford less than a year after making the lucrative switch. Sanchez earns a reported £500,000 per week – making him the Premier League’s top earner – but is said to be unhappy after being frozen out of the first team. Paris Saint-Germain remains the most likely option if he is to move and reports claim he has his heart set on a move to the French giants. However, manager Jose Mourinho says he expects him to stay beyond the January transfer window. “He has never told me that he wants to leave. He never told me that he’s not happy to stay,” Mourinho said. “He is playing like the team. He is improving, like the team is improving, when he plays he is giving us his personality. “His desire is to play and to produce for the team and [he is] trying to adapt to the way we play and vice versa. “Can he do better? We all can do better. I can do better, he can do better, all the players can do better.” Sanchez has scored just four goals in 30 games in all competitions for Mourinho’s struggling United side. They are currently seventh in the Premier League table, seven points off the Champions League places and a whooping 14 behind leaders Manchester City. Sanchez has cut a disgruntled figure at Manchester United this term and is one of several players who could engineer an exit from Old Trafford. The Chilean has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and his future under Jose Mourinho took another turn for the worse on Tuesday night when he failed to make the substitutes’ bench in the 1-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League. Mourinho refused to explain Sanchez’s absence as he said: “No, Sanchez is not injured. “But it is quite curious you always speak about the ones that are not playing. “Tonight you had Marcus Rashford playing as a nine, that’s what you want, that’s what you ask all the time and you had. “So don’t speak about Lukaku, who doesn’t score a goal at Old Trafford since March. And then you ask why he’s not playing.” And it is understood Mourinho’s treatment of Sanchez has strengthened his desire to leave. It is believed he has told pals he wants to leave and join PSG. Having only joined United in January, Sanchez looks like being an expensive mistake. Paul Ince slated Mourinho last week on Match of the Day 2 for the way he has used Sanchez. “When United can’t score, bring Fellaini on, go long, Palace are set up for that,” he said. “They are relying on luck, knock downs, Palace are set up for that. “Paying Sanchez half a million pounds, and not to be a quarterback. Playing long ball. “We don’t want him like that, we want him in the 18-yard area.” Currently, United are 14 points adrift of Premier League pacesetters Manchester City. Mourinho’s men will look to get back to winning ways in the league against Southampton (5.30pm). They are 15 points clear after 15 games and pretty-much nailed-on to win it… no idea how of course. 33: Penalty appeals from Jesse Lingard fall on deaf ears after his snapshot powers against the elbow of Camara, who was standing outside the penalty area anyway. Manchester United vs Young Boys: Champions League latest score, news and updates (Image: REUTERS) 30: We’ve reached the half-hour mark and Manchester United have enjoyed 60 per cent possession and four shots. Only one of those has been on target though. 28: Whoosh! Has Marcus Rashford’s confidence been knocked by a few missed chances? Has it heck! The young forward drives one from 30-yards that whistles past the post. 25: Lots of nice and nearly moments for Manchester United. Chris Smalling’s cross field pass to Luke Shaw sees the left-back nearly tee up Martial in the middle… but he’s offside. 22: Nemanja Matic booked for a wild challenge inside the centre-circle. Luke Shaw also fouled a different player at the same time but looks to have got away with it. Quite a shock considering the magnitude of the match, but I suppose the goalless draw against Crystal Palace will have that affect… 16: That’s exactly what YB don’t want. Anthony Martial isolates Kevin Mbabu down the left flank before delivering a decent cross that takes a couple of deflections before being hoofed into orbit. 13: Lovely one-touch play from United as Fred, Lingard and Rashford combine down the left flank with the latter firing low at the YB stopper. Not got his finishing boots on yet has young Mr Rashford. 10: Roger Assale’s low shot is blocked at the near post as the Swiss league leaders start to put together a few nice passages of play. 8: He’s missed it! Jose Mourinho is livid on the sidelines as Marcus Rashford misses a golden opportunity. Lingard pokes a hopeful ball forward into the striker’s path but he fires over the crossbar with only YB goalkeeper Von Ballmoos to beat. Fred then absolutely hammers a long-ranger over. That’s got the home supporters up and about. Manchester United vs Young Boys: Champions League latest score, news and updates (Image: REUTERS) 5: Strange to say but the early indications are that Marouane Fellaini will play the more advanced role in the midfield three. We’ll see how that goes. No early chances to speak of. 3: For anyone wondering if Jose Mourinho walked to Old Trafford tonight… I have the answer. “I didn’t risk it I came in a car and it took two minutes. For the boys 25 minutes, which is much better than before,” Mourinho told BT Sports. Mystery solved. Robbie Savage didn’t take long to stick the knife in by addressing the number of empty seats inside the stadium tonight. That’s NOT the fault of the 3000 crazy YB fans. They are a big yellow wall of noise. MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 YOUNG BOYS 1: Quite awkward in the BT Sport studio as Gary Lineker jokes about the level of entertainment in prospect at Old Trafford. Pressure, under pressure 19:50: Jose Mourinho told Manchester United’s underachieving players to “stay at home” if they cannot handle the pressure to perform at Old Trafford. Progress tonight would be a welcome shot in the arm after Saturday’s tepid goalless draw with struggling Crystal Palace, which left them 14 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and with a mere three wins from nine home matches in all competitions. However, Mourinho knocked back suggestions his players find it easier to play away and laughed off a suggestion that playing at Old Trafford brought added pressure ahead of facing the Swiss champions. “If you feel pressure, stay at home – and when I say home, I don’t say stadium home, I say home home and watch on TV,” Mourinho said. “If you feel pressure to play matches at home where the people come to support… come on. “I never felt pressure to play at home.” Manchester United vs Young Boys: Champions League latest score, news and updates (Image: GETTY) Twitter round-up Sam: More awful football awaits Manchester United fans tonight, cannot see it being any different tonight to what we have already seen this season. Tommy: What has Pereira done wrong to not even get any chances? Played out of position the whole pre-season and for the first few games and was our best player then just never got the chance again, the way he’s been treated is disgusting he needs to leave. Goals needed at Old Trafford 19:35: It was yet another day for Manchester United to forget on Saturday as Crystal Palace held them in a dour goalless draw. It was the fourth time in all competitions that United have drawn a blank at home, and Jose Mourinho’s side have yet to score in the Champions League at Old Trafford. Group whipping boys Young Boys would appear to be the perfect opponents to end that run, especially as United won the reverse fixture 3-0 in September. Win, and United reach the last 16, providing Valencia do not win at Juventus. Anything else will simply increase the pressure on Mourinho. Manchester United vs Young Boys: Champions League latest score, news and updates (Image: REUTERS) Form 19:30: On the domestic front, YB could hardly be in better shape. Last season’s Swiss Super League triumph was their first since 1986 and you would be bold to suggest they would not collect their 13th league title this term. Saturday’s 1-0 win against Lugano puts them an eye-watering 16 points clear of nearest rival Basel – a side United faced in last season’s Champions League group phase – and they are through to the Swiss Cup quarter-finals. Life on the continental side has not been as straightforward, though, as they must win on Tuesday to have any chance of a third-place finish and Europa League football. Young Boys lost 3-0 at home to United in Berne, before losing by the same scoreline at Juventus and then securing a 1-1 home draw against a Valencia side that beat them 3-1 in their last Champions League match. Twitter round-up Ron: Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. The words that strike fear into every Manchester United’s fans heart. David: Manchester United cannot afford to lose tonight. Jose Mourinho must have them attack and score some goals. It is becoming embarrassing already. Adam: Manchester United should have a chance against the Young Boys tonight; if they lose, perhaps a fixture against the toddlers at the weekend to regain some much needed confidence? Manchester United vs Young Boys: Champions League latest score, news and updates (Image: REUTERS) Team news – Manchester United 19:20: Six changes from the side who drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Saturday. Marcus Rashford and £50m summer signing Fred start ahead of Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku, who are dropped to the bench. Luke Shaw starts at left-back while Phil Jones’ makes his first start since the Carabao Cup defeat to Frank Lampard’s Derby. There’s a sighting of the lesser-spotted Antonio Valencia – who has been frozen out of the squad since his ‘accidental’ Instagram like. The non-afro Marouane Fellaini also starts in a defensive midfield three. 2 + 2 = 5 19:15: Romelu Lukaku has scored five goals in three previous appearances against Young Boys, while Paul Pogba had a hand in all three of Man Utd’s goals against them in the reverse fixture (2 goals, 1 assist). Makes sense to drop them both in a must-win game though, right? What’s on offer? 19:10: Brace yourselves for a permutations attack. Group E Bayern Munich need just a point to qualify for the last 16. Ajax can go through in the next match with a win against AEK Athens away, if Benfica lose in Munich. Group F Manchester City will head to the last 16 as group winners with a game left if they beat Lyon in France in the next game. German side Hoffenheim need two wins from their final two matches to stand a chance of qualification in place of Lyon. Group G Real Madrid top their group, level on points with Roma, although the two meet each other in the next fixture. CSKA Moscow would need one of the top two sides to lose, and to win both their games to have a chance of remaining in the competition. Manchester United vs Young Boys: Champions League latest score, news and updates (Image: REUTERS) Players to watch 19:05: There are not any household names within the Young Boys ranks, but their form, cohesion and talent make them a threat. Their 47 league goals this term have been scored by 11 different players, with star man Guillaume Hoarau, who once led the line for PSG, their top scorer. The 34-year-old is flourishing in Berne, but is out of the match with an ankle injury sustained at the weekend. Jean-Pierre Nsame is set to come into a side in which Miralem Sulejmani, formerly of Ajax and Benfica, has impressed. Ex-Newcastle defender Kevin Mbabu continues to come on leaps and bounds back in his homeland, impressing at right-back in the first meeting of these clubs. Where’s Alexis? 19:00: Anyone seen Alexis Sanchez? I could have sworn I saw him around here somewhere. “Check under the couch.” Anyway, Alexis Sanchez has been omitted from the matchday squad and nobody seems to know what. He’s not injured and clearly hasn’t played too many minutes to need a rest. Ashley Young, Ander Herrera and Diogo Dalot are also given the evening off. Three cheers for the bus driver… UEFA fined the club around £13,000 for their late arrival and the subsequent delayed kick-off of their Champions League match against Valencia in October. Those issues reappeared later that month, with Juventus arriving 65 minutes before kick-off and United getting to Old Trafford just 50 minutes prior to play getting under way. United boss Mourinho decided to walk to the ground and is ready to do so again. “We decided to change hotel, so we are not coming from Manchester city centre,” he said. “We are going to stay in hotel just a few metres away and the information I have from the club and the club contacts with the police is that things are going to be much better than the last time. But if it isn’t better, I walk!” Tonight’s action… 18:45: Any accumulators on, anyone? I like a Roma win against Real Madrid tonight. Well, kind of. It’s not exactly do-or-die like Tottenham’s clash with Inter Milan tomorrow. If Manchester United beat Young Boys and Valencia lose or draw away against Juventus, Jose Mourinho’s side will qualify. If the English team lose or draw against Young Boys and Valencia lose or draw, they will need a point away against the latter. I suspect Manchester United will be getting some help from their old friend Cristiano Ronaldo in Turin tonight. Daniel: Manchester United have created fewer chances this season than Mark Hughes’s Southampton. He’s far from the only issue, but that is still an absolutely damning indictment of Jose Mourinho’s management. Tony: Reminder: Jose Mourinho wanted Toby Alderweireld for £50m but the board believed he wasn’t better than what Manchester United already had. What a thoroughly disgusting evening out there! Not the kind of evening you’d like to be walking the streets – unless you’re Jose Mourinho… The Portuguese tactician has already threatened to battle the elements by walking to Old Trafford should these crazy travel issues persist. We’ll be discussing that in depth a bit later and I’ll reveal my full-proof plan to get Manchester United to their matches on time. It’s quite simple really – leave earlier. Anyway, It’s a BIG night of Champions League action. Let’s get this thing started. Manchester United vs Young Boys: Champions League latest score, news and updates (Image: GETTY) MANCHESTER UNITED vs YOUNG BOYS Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof will miss tonight’s Champions League encounter with Young Boys and the coming weeks through injury. The vastly-improved 24-year-old has started the club’s last seven matches in all competitions but was visibly struggling towards the end of Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. Jose Mourinho has confirmed Lindelof has a “proper injury” that will be scanned on Tuesday and will keep him out for some time. Matteo Darmian made his first appearance since the opening day against the Eagles but he also missed Monday’s training session along with fellow defender Marcos Rojo. Luke Shaw is available after serving a one-match domestic ban. Manchester United provisional squad: De Gea, Romero, Grant, Dalot, Valencia, Young, Shaw, Bailly, Jones, Smalling, Pogba, Mata, Lingard, Pereira, Fred, Herrera, Fellaini, Matic, McTominay, Sanchez, Lukaku, Rashford, Martial. Manchester United suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City on Sunday that leaves them 12 points behind the league leaders. Alexis Sanchez had to settle for a spot on the bench and was only introduced on 73 minutes along with Romelu Lukaku. Mourinho has been brutal with his team selections this season with the likes of Sanchez, Lukaku and summer signing Fred all having to endure time on the bench. The Portuguese boss opted to start a youthful trio consisting of Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to lead his side’s attack against Pep Guardiola’s champions. But it seems Mourinho’s decision to bench Sanchez has had huge ramifications with the Chilean finally running out of patience. According to the Daily Star, the 29-year-old is now determined to quit the club in January as a result of missing out on a starting berth at the Etihad. Sanchez only joined United from Arsenal in January with the Red Devils agreeing to pay his £500,000-a-week wages. He was told he would be one of Mourinho’s star players and be guaranteed regular starts. That promise was part of the reason he chose United over City, fearing he would be used on a rotation basis at the Etihad. Only last month, Mourinho was seemingly on the brink of losing his job after a run of disappointing results. But with the former Chelsea boss recording an impressive 2-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League earlier this month and the board willing to back him, Mourinho doesn’t appear to be on his way out anytime soon. That’s left Sanchez determined to force his way out of his long-term contract with the club when the transfer window reopens in the New Year. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have both been linked with a move for forward, who has netted only four goals for United since joining. The two European giants would have no trouble meeting his wage demands but will have to weigh up their need to strengthen in other areas before potentially making a move for the former Barcelona man. Only last month, Mourinho spoke openly about Sanchez’s struggles at Old Trafford, and believes injuries have played a huge part in him trying to find his feet. “He arrived in January last season – I don’t think that is ever an easy situation for a player,” he said. “But this season he had a good start. He had a good preseason and he started well against Leicester. Then he was injured. Then he came back and then he was injured again. “So he is struggling with his condition and I think he is the kind of player that needs to really sharp to play his best game.” Sanchez will be hoping to return to the starting XI when United host Crystal Palace on Saturday, November 24, after the international break. That’s the opinion of Ian Wright. The 29-year-old has been widely criticised for his displays since moving to Old Trafford last January and was restricted to appearances from the bench against Newcastle and Chelsea lately. But the former Arsenal star was in improved form against the Cherries as United once again came from behind to win, leading the line with Romelu Lukaku absent through injury. After a first half that Jose Mourinho described as “absolutely awful” defensively with Anthony Martial cancelling out Callum Wilson’s effort against the run of play, Marcus Rashford scored a stoppage-time winner for United on the south coast. And Wright believes Sanchez played a significant part in the win after he provided the assist for Martial’s equaliser in the 35th minute and brought movement and liveliness up top. But the Chilean was hauled off by Mourinho late on in favour of Jesse Lingered with United still chasing a winner and former Arsenal striker Wright thinks Sanchez should not be happy about his manager’s decision. Asked whether Sanchez was back to his best against Bournemouth, Wright said on Match of the Day: “Yeah we’re seeing it now. “The thing is, I was quite pleased for him because we know he’s a quality player but what he done today – he stretched them and got himself into positions. “When you’ve got time on the ball like [Paul] Pogba had, he’s making great runs. Super run and you’re thinking Pogba might be able to find him. “He was doing this quite frequently, stretching them, and going into nice positions. I think it [Sanchez] suits him [playing centrally] because he naturally wants to stretch team and he’s got the quality and ability to cause teams problems. “This is the goal, he wins the ball – people saying it was handball, I thought it just hit him really – then he picked Martial out beautifully. “Brilliant movement and could have scored today, he was unfortunate not to score. “This is real quality – holds it up well, great skill, lays it off and then gets his time on the ball to play balls like that. That’s what he can do. “I thought he was unfortunate to get taken off today. I think he’s getting somewhere near what we know and I’d have been very disappointed being taken off after playing like that today.” Likewise Mourinho was impressed by Sanchez as he explained the thinking behind his attacking unit. He continued: “The way I like to play is with three attacking players where there is not a clear definition of the winger as a winger. “And I like the winger is somebody with a striker or formation or with a striker appetite. I always had that in my team, with wingers scoring a lot of goals, sometimes even more goals than the striker. “So is not impossible at all to have in the same team and at same time Romelu Lukaku or Alexis, for example. “Today Romelu was not available and we thought Alexis could do what he did, he a had a good assist, mobility, he create some problems.” Sanchez could also be trusted to start up front when United face Juventus away from home in the Champions League on Wednesday night (8pm) with Lukaku battling to recover from a muscle injury in time. Manchester United face Chelsea this weekend fresh off the back of a 3-2 victory over Newcastle before the international break. Sanchez scored the winner for Mourinho that day, heading home late on after from Juan Mata and Anthony Martial had struck. Manchester United remain a team firmly in the spotlight, however, and need to beat Chelsea to keep their faint hopes of Premier League glory alive. Many have tipped Sanchez to start after the 29-year-old’s heroics against Newcastle a fortnight ago. But the Mirror say that, because of his international break, Sanchez is primed to make way for Rashford. The Chile international played the full 90 minutes as Chile edged Mexico 1-0 on Wednesday night. He then only arrived back at Heathrow airport on Friday morning. Jet lag, the Mirror say, means Rashford is in line to replace the forward in Mourinho’s planned United attack. The England international was criticised by his manager for his performance against Newcastle two weeks ago. But he found the net for Gareth Southgate’s side as they beat Spain 3-2 in a thrilling Nations League showdown. Sanchez’s likely omission will come at a time where the United player’s long-term future in uncertain. On Thursday night, reports emerged claiming the forward was keen to quit Old Trafford. Sanchez feels lost at United – having scored just four goals since signing from Arsenal in January. But what happens regarding a potential transfer remains to be seen. For now, the priority is putting Chelsea to the sword at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The Red Devils have lost their last three visits to west London. And they were also pipped to the FA Cup by the Blues, who won the final at Wembley back in May. The Chile striker has struggled to find his best form for Manchester United since his January move from Arsenal. He has scored only three goals but one of them was the equaliser in the 2-1 semi-final win over Tottenham which made it eight goals in just six appearances at the national stadium. Sanchez’s run started with a brace for Chile against England in November 2013. The following season, his first with Arsenal, he scored twice in their FA cup semi-final win over Reading and netted the second in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa in the final. Then, in 2016-17, he scored in the Gunners semi-final win over Manchester City before grabbing the first in their victory over Chelsea in the final. He maintained the hot streak with his most telling contribution for United so far, the headed equaliser against Spurs last month as well as the pass that set up Ander Herrera for the winner. “Playing at Wembley brings me a lot of luck,” he said. “The reality is the change [of clubs] has been very, very difficult for me. I arrived at a big club and I changed everything from before. “The coach told me he doesn’t like to sign players in January and it would take time for me to become accustomed to the new players. But I hope we can go on and win the FA Cup.” Meanwhile, Manchester United are closing in on Brazilian targets Willian – who they will face at Wembley – and Fred ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window tomorrow. They are understood to have already have sounded out winger Willian’s representatives about a possible move to Old Trafford while midfielder Fred has confirmed he is ready to quit Shakhtar Donetsk to move to the Premier League with United favourites to sign him. Fred said: “I have made it clear to Shakhtar that I want to make a bigger leap in my career. “There are clubs interested in England and France. As soon as a I come back from the World Cup we will sit down, talk and look at the options.” Willian will be one of the 137 players whose names will be inscribed on the Nike ball for Saturday’s final – the FA’s “Ball for All” which celebrates players from level six of the football pyramid through to the Premier League who have scored in this season’s competition. That’s the view of Sanchez’s United team mate Phil Jones, who believes the Chilean will show the added side to his game in an attempt to beat his former club. Sanchez moved to Old Trafford from Arsenal in January though has struggled to regularly hit the heights for Manchester United. The attacker has come to the fore more in recent weeks and netted the equaliser as the Red Devils beat Tottenham in last week’s FA Cup semi-final. Now they host Arsenal on Sunday (4.30pm) and Jones believes Sanchez will add an extra edge to his play. “Not so much at home,” Jones told MUTV when asked if it will be a weird occasion for Sanchez. “I think, if it was away at the Emirates, it might be a bit different. “Going back to a place where he’s very fond of, knows the pitch well and the fans well. “So, at home, it’s a little bit different but he will still get that added incentive to try to put one over on them.” Sunday’s encounter will be the first time Sanchez has faced his former club. Manchester United beat Arsenal 3-1 in December with goalkeeper David de Gea performing heroics to earn his side the three points. Jesse Lingard bagged a brace in that game while United midfielder Paul Pogba was sent off. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who moved to the Emirates as part of the Sanchez deal, will not feature having injured his knee. “Sorry I’m late. Traffic was a bitch.” Those seven words, spoken in the final moments of last week’s Dynasty, introduced viewers to the new Alexis Carrington, now played by Nicollette Sheridan. And she’s only begun to steal the show.

Manchester United signed Sanchez from Arsenal during the January transfer window with hopes he could be the final piece of their jigsaw.
However, the 29-year-old has managed to find the net just once and was dropped for the Red Devils’ 2-0 FA Cup win over Brighton on Saturday.
And Sanchez has now delivered a brutal assessment of his Old Trafford career so far, explaining why he’s toiled.
“As I am self-demanding, I expected something better,” the Manchester United No 7 said.
“After my arrival at United, it was hard to change everything very quickly.
“I even hesitated to come here [to Sweden, with the national team].
“I had asked permission to miss these games, but then I thought better and spoke with Claudio [Bravo] and told him that we should all be united.”
Sanchez’s words come after it was reported he was unhappy at the club.
The Chile star supposedly eats alone in the club’s canteen and has struggled to bond with the rest of the squad.
However, United hero Andy Cole thinks Sanchez’s struggles are down to him trying too hard.
“Alexis Sanchez is a superb player,” Cole told Goal.
“I think sometimes when you try too hard to impress, to give too much, sometimes it goes against you.
“Arsenal play a different way to United however you look at it.
“You have got to consider those factors when you look at it.
“The lad is playing the same way he did at Arsenal even though United are playing a different way but I’m sure it will turn around for him.”
Sanchez will next be in action for United when they face Swansea on March 31.
