Sanaa International Airport and Al Delmi air base, located north of the Yemeni capital, have come under a heavy bombardment targeting the Houthi positions at the facilities, the Yemen national military website reported on Monday. The strikes were allegedly carried out by the Saudi-led coalition, the Houthis’ Al Misarah TV reported. The nine-member coalition of Arab states led by Riyadh has been embroiled in the civil war in the country since March 2015, when it intervened on behalf of Yemen’s ousted president Mansour Hadi against Houthi rebels. A military airbase in Syria’s south, known as T-4, came under attack late on Sunday, state media reported, attributing the strikes to Israel, which did not comment on the incident. Several missiles have been intercepted by the anti-air defenses of the T-4 base, which is located in Homs countryside, and one attacking aircraft was hit as well, according to reports. There was no information on potential damage and casualties immediately available. Israel was previously blamed by Russia, Iran and Syria for attacking the T-4 airbase back in April. The strike killed and injured several Syrian servicemen and Iranian advisers at the compound, and it also inflicted damage to the airfield structures. Two Israeli F-15 fighters targeted Syria’s T-4 airbase in Homs province, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday. The jets fired eight guided missiles, but five of them were shot down before they hit the airfield. READ MORE: Several killed & injured in ‘missile attack’ on airbase in Homs – Syrian state media In a statement on Monday, the Russian military said: “Two Israeli Air Force F-15 jets fired eight guided missiles at the T-4 airfield.” The Israeli aircraft did not enter Syrian airspace and launched the strikes while flying over Lebanon. “Syrian air defense units have shot down five guided missiles,” the military said, but confirmed that three of the missiles “reached the western part of the airfield.” Citing its own correspondent, Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen channel said earlier on Monday that an Israeli reconnaissance aircraft was airborne during the attack on the Syrian base. The missiles crossed Lebanese airspace over Keserwan and Bekaa, heading towards Syria, according to the broadcaster. MORE TO FOLLOW The Syrian Air Defense Force has responded to a “missile attack” on a military airport in the the area of Homs, state media SANA is reporting. DETAILS TO FOLLOW Standing in front of a “Win again”-plastered semi-truck, President Donald Trump pitched his tax reform proposal to a private crowd of about 1,000 at the Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania. From within a hangar at the Harrisburg Air National Guard Base, Trump told a crowd of truckers, manufacturing and business professionals, and local Republican officials that they would eventually be filing their taxes “on a single piece of paper.” Serving as the president’s backdrop was a semi-trailer truck wrapped in slogans, including “Truckers for tax reform” and “Win again” in all capital letters. The printing on the truck also promoted lower taxes, bigger paychecks and more jobs. “We want lower taxes, bigger paychecks and more jobs for American truckers and American workers,” Trump said. Trump hyped his vision of tax reform by citing economic developments in recent months, which he said some in the media would “hate” to report. “Unemployment is at a 16-year low,” Trump declared. “Wages are rising, and you know, you haven’t heard that in a long time.” Trump specifically mentioned how the media has been unfair in reporting the tax brackets and clarified that his plan would have four tax brackets and not three. Trump said that his tax plan would include a zero bracket, a 12 percent bracket, a 25 percent bracket and a 35 percent bracket. Trump said that his tax code would benefit the middle class, not the rich. “By eliminating tax breaks and special interest loopholes that primarily benefit the wealthy, our framework ensures that the benefits of tax reform go to the middle class, not to the highest earners. It’s a middle class bill. That’s what we’re thinking of. That’s what I want,” Trump said. He said that his wealthy friends have asked him to give the benefits of the tax cut to the middle class. “I’ve had rich friends of mine come up to me and say ’Donald, you’re doing this tax plan. We don’t want anything. We don’t,’” Trump said. “Now, they gain when the economy gains. They gain when companies get better. They gain in lots of different ways. But they don’t want that. So many people have come up to me and say give it to the middle class.” Trump then went on to say that his tax plan would eliminate the estate tax, also known as the death tax. Trump then asked the crowd if they liked “made in the USA” or “made in America” better. “Made in the USA” seemed to win the louder applause. Trump said that the more than 30 million Americans who own small businesses will see a 40 percent cut in their marginal tax rate. “I wouldn’t want to be a politician against that,” Trump said. “They’re going to have a long hard winter.” When he called the tax cut “huge,” the crowd laughed. Trump said that companies will be able to write off 100 percent of the cost of equipment in the year that they buy it. Trump said that his tax code would give the typical American household $ 4,000 to spend. “And you’re going to spend that money, it’s going to be put to work and jobs are going to be produced and we’re going to start making our product again,” Trump said. “And all our great congressmen and congresswomen, all of the people that we’re working with – all I can say is, you’d better get it passed,” Trump threatened. Trump also remarked on the ongoing NAFTA renegotiation, a multi-national trade deal he called “horrendous” and “one-sided.”

On Saturday, the Teym oilfield was recaptured from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorists in the desert south of Deir ez-Zor, according to state TV. This eastern part of Syria is an oil-rich area.
The Syrian Army and its allies have also reached an airbase near the city and are fighting to recapture the base, which was besieged by jihadists for years, a commander in the alliance fighting alongside government forces said, as cited by Reuters.
The forces now aim to retake the remaining parts of Deir ez-Zor from the terrorists. The army is said to be on the verge of fully liberating the city, which is one of the last IS strongholds in Syria.
The breaking of the blockade happened earlier this week, after a series of successful operations carried out by the Syrian Army with the support of the Russian Air Force.
Islamic State ammunition warehouses were identified by the Syrian Air Force during the operation, Syrian Army General Ahmad Sulaiman told RT, saying that the military also “listened in to meetings in which the terrorists planned attacks inside and around Deir ez-Zor.”
“With the help of Russian air power, the Syrian Air Force struck these places ahead of the arrival of Syrian government troops. This weakened ISIL’s ability to attack and to call in reinforcements from Raqqa and Palmyra,” the Syrian Army commander said.
He added that the Syrian forces “fought fierce battles,” as the jihadists “had planted improvised explosive devices and car bombs all around.”
Meanwhile, humanitarian convoys started to arrive in Deir ez-Zor for the first time since the siege was broken. For the past three years, locals have depended on air drops from a military air field controlled by one of the Syrian Army’s brigades.
“People in Deir ez-Zor were on the brink of starvation. We were desperate for food and water to reach the city, that was all we wanted. And thank God, help has now arrived,” a local man told RT.
“We cannot describe how relieved we are. People were dying,” another resident among those queuing for food, water, and other vital supplies said.
Russia also joined the humanitarian efforts and sent convoys to the newly liberated parts of the city. On Saturday, bottled drinking water, food, medicine, and other vital supplies from Russia were distributed, the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria reported.

According to the Russian military, efforts are also being made to facilitate the return of refugees to their homes, as infrastructure is being restored in the areas freed from the terrorists. Moscow is actively participating to help the Syrians speed up the work to restore hospitals, schools, bakeries, as well as water and energy supplies.
In June, IS controlled around a quarter of the country. But in the past three months, the terrorist group has lost around half of those territories. At the moment, it still partly holds the Deir ez-Zor province, as well as territories near Hama and Homs in western Syria.

The Turkish authorities notified the German Foreign Ministry of its decision not to allow inspection by MPs late Thursday, just days ahead of the scheduled visit on Monday next week, the Chairman of the German Parliament’s defense committee, SPD deputy Wolfgang Hellmich, told Deutschlandfunk.
As the reason for the visit’s abrupt cancellation, Turkish officials cited the dismal state of the German-Turkish relations, requesting that the trip be postponed indefinitely.
Denouncing the Turkish authorities’ conduct, Hellmich said he sees no difference between this case and Ankara’s earlier decision to block access to a Turkish Air Force military base in Incirlik that ultimately led to the relocation of the German troops stationed there to Jordan.
“I see this as the same pattern,” the lawmaker said, stressing that the right for German MPs to visit the troops in Turkey should be unconditional and not depend on Turkey’s assessment of bilateral relations between the countries.
“Our position is crystal clear: We need a basic, [and] unrestricted right to visit,” he said, adding that since the facility in Konya is a NATO military base, Turkey’s unwelcoming stand is becoming “indeed a problem for NATO.”
Other lawmakers voice similar concerns, urging the chancellor to step in the dispute.
“The government, especially Chancellor Angela Merkel, must now take the necessary steps to ensure lawmakers can soon visit the soldiers in Konya,” Rainer Arnold, defense spokesman for the Social Democrats’ parliamentary faction, said, as cited by Deutsche Welle.
If Ankara does not reverse its course, the German Parliament will have to consider withdrawing troops from Konya as well.
“Under the given conditions I see no possibility, if this [situation] does not change fundamentally, that we can extend the mandate [for troops to be stationed in Konya] in November,” Hellmich said, calling on the German government to appeal to NATO to resolve the stalemate “at the highest level.”
Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) needs approval of the Social Democrats to extend the mission mandate.
Commenting on Turkey’s request to “delay the journey of a parliamentary delegation,” the German Foreign Ministry said on Friday, it has been engaged in “intensive talks” with NATO and other parties “to set a new date as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, while there is no clarity on the issue, Hellmich suggested the German authorities should start looking for alternative locations as soon as possible.
“If Turkey’s attitude, the attitude of the Turkish government does not change…and this now concerns all NATO facilities, but especially in Konya, then I don’t see how we can stay there,” he said.
Germany is amidst a process of transferring its 250 military personal and six Tornado surveillance jets from the Incirlik air base to Jordan after it was repeatedly denied access to the base by Ankara. The last such refusal took place in May, after Berlin refused to extradite suspects in the foiled coup attempt to Turkey, who had sought asylum in Germany in the aftermath of the coup. Some 400 Turkish citizens filed for asylum in Germany following the events of July 15 last year.

As the all-out political crisis among Persian Gulf states enters its second week, the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to the US Yousef al-Otaiba threatened Qatar with more punitive actions. He also complained about Washington’s massive military presence in the monarchy.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Otaiba said the US and his own country had allowed “bad behavior” by Qatar to continue for “a very long time,” as cited by AP.
“If I want to be honest, I think the reason action hasn’t been taken against Qatar is because of the airbase,” he said, referring to the base near the capital, Doha. “The airbase is a very nice insurance policy against any additional pressure.”
During the early 1990s, Qatar invested sizeable amounts of money to construct the airbase in an area southwest of Doha. The facility has then been used by British Royal Air Force and the US Air Force amid wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Since 2014, the Al Udeid base has been used by the US-led coalition in their operations against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).
Additionally, Al Udeid serves as a command and logistical hub for current American deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq. Camp As-Sayliyah, a nearby military compound, houses a number of US command and control facilities supporting the Central Command’s operations.
“Maybe someone in Congress should have a hearing and just say, you know, ‘Should we consider moving it?’” Otaiba suggested. “And maybe not moving the entire base. Maybe just distribute to various countries so you don’t have all your eggs in one basket.”
Though he admitted the UAE has not yet discussed the proposal with the US, the Emirates are “willing to have that conversation.” US troops stationed in Qatar would also relocate to the UAE, he argued, adding the “infrastructure is in place” if such talks ever take place.
Several major Middle Eastern states, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain have severed diplomatic ties with Qatar last week, accusing the monarchy of sponsoring terrorist groupings and meddling in neighbors’ domestic affairs. Al Jazeera, the government-backed global television network, has also drawn particular consternation from Gulf monarchies.
Washington has already urged parties to seek a comfortable solution to the crisis. Calling to ease blockade of Qatar, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson stressed it is “hindering US military action in the region and the campaign against [Islamic State or IS, formerly] ISIS.” He also said it was crucial to engage in a “calm and thoughtful dialogue with clear expectations” in order to resolve the crisis, endorsing the mediation proposal by the Emir of Kuwait.
Otaiba, however, said the American plea is unlikely to be heard in Arab capitals. “That’s not going to happen,” Otaiba said.
Still, he said he did not foresee the crisis becoming a military conflict, even if Qatar refused to bow to demands. Even if Qatar does accept the list of demands, Otaiba said they’d have to fulfill specific steps over a period of time to show seriousness before the countries would restore ties to the tiny country. “There will be an escalation of economic pressure” unless Qatar changes course, Otaiba said. “We’ve gotten fed up. We’ve had enough.”
The anti-Qatar camp has recently presented the US a list of demands Doha must accept in order for the sanctions to be lifted. According to Otaiba, the list includes closing or curtailing Qatar-funded media attacking UAE and others, as well as putting an end to Doha’s alleged support for terrorism.
“There will be an escalation of economic pressure” unless Qatar changes course, Otaiba said.

Germany will soon decide on relocating its troops to Al-Azrak, Jordan from Incirlik following another refusal by Ankara to allow German MPs to visit soldiers stationed there, Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen said Monday following a futile meeting between the German and Turkish foreign ministers.
“We are prepared for a transfer,” von der Leyen announced, adding that Germany has “found a similar alternative with the Al-Azrak airport in Jordan.”
Germany’s defense chief added that the cabinet will “discuss and decide” on the move on Wednesday.
“Incirlik is a good airbase for the fight against Islamic State… but we can’t accept not being able to visit our soldiers,” she said.
Germany has currently over 250 military personnel stationed at Incirlik, following the 2015 deployment of several Tornado surveillance jets and a refueling plane at the base as part of the US-led campaign against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Iraq and Syria.
As Germany transitions to a new base, Berlin’s role in US-led anti-IS fight will have to be interrupted, von der Leyen said, adding, that Germany will do “everything in its power to keep this interruption as short as possible.”
Tensions between Berlin and Ankara have been simmering for months over a number of issues but have reached boiling point following Berlin’s decision last month to grant asylum to a number of Turkish Army officers who fled the country after the failed coup attempt last July.
In a last ditch effort to mend bilateral relations, Germany’s Foreign Minister, Sigmar Gabriel, flew to Turkey for discussions with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu. However, the two sides failed to reach an agreement on MPs visitation privileges. The Turkish foreign minister said German MEPs are free to visit the NATO base in Konya but not the base in Incirlik.
“Turkey has made clear that, for domestic reasons, it cannot approve visits of all lawmakers,” Gabriel said after the meeting, according to DW. “I regret that, but Turkey must understand that for domestic political reasons, we must transfer German soldiers out of Incirlik.”
Cavusoglu reiterated his country’s concern about Germany’s stance on groups including the PKK and the Gulen Movement (FETO), which Ankara considers terrorists. He said Turkey may authorize the German delegation’s visit to Incirlik once relations between the two countries stabilize.
“Our friend Germany should not be the harbor of our enemies. It’s our natural right to expect our friend and ally to take more serious steps on this issue,” Cavusoglu said during a joint news conference. “If Germany takes positive steps, we will always take two steps. But we cannot ignore the current situation.”
Germany has received over 400 asylum requests in less than a year from Turkish citizens fearing persecution. Last month, Germany granted political asylum to a number of Turkish officers and their families who sought refuge following the attempted coup against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In Turkey, these individuals are being accused of conspiracy to overthrow the Turkish government and are suspected to have links with Fethullah Gulen’s FETO. Erdogan has accused the prominent cleric and his group of masterminding the failed coup in Turkey on July 15, 2016. The 74-year-old Gulen, once an Erdogan ally, is currently living in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania in the US and has denied any involvement in the failed coup plot.

RT spoke to Qusai Nasr from Homs, who lost a relative when the US attacked the Shayrat airfield with dozens of Tomahawk missiles early Friday.
“All of the officers [stationed] there have actually taken part in the Syrian campaign against ISIS [Islamic State],” Nasr said, referring to the base, which is located near Homs.
According to Nasr, 15 people were killed in the airstrike although it has not led to an extensive damage to the airfield. The airstrike, however, resulted in the death of five officers and soldiers who were at the base, he said.
The pretext for the attack, that the Syrian government and the air force stationed at the base in particular, were allegedly behind the chemical incident in rebel-held Idlib province on Tuesday, is hard to believe, Nasr argues.
“There is no evidence that the chemical attack was led by [Syrian aircraft] from this spot,” Nasr said, adding that neither the US nor rebels “show evidence of an aerial strike, the aerial deployment of the chemical weapon.”
“If it was the case thousands of people might have been killed in a town that has a lot of people inside but the number that they said, and I think, they are exaggerating, are very, very little,” he added.

While the strike has dealt little damage to the key airbase infrastructure, it will embolden terrorists, as was the case when the US-led coalition “mistakenly” launched an hour-long raid on the Syrian army positions in Deir ez-Zor in September, killing up to some 100 soldiers and injuring 100 more.
“On the same day of [the Deir ez-Zor] attack, ISIS launched a massive attack on the Syrian army and they gained ground. Today also after the attack on Shayrat Airbase, there was also an attack on the Syrian post in eastern Homs [province] that the Syria army managed to repel,” Nasr said.
Earlier, it was reported that the Syrian forces struggled to quash the terrorist offensive in the area due to the lack of air support from the airbase.
Homs Governor Talal Barazi told RT on Friday that Islamic State attempted to use the airstrike to gain control of strategic oil areas near Palmyra, but the Syrian army thwarted the move.

Judging by the developments on the ground, Nasr said that the US attack “actually helps the terrorists, and helps ISIL and Al-Nusra [Front militants].”
“ISIL and Al-Nusra are actually put on the terrorism list by the US. It is really strange that the United States would attack an airbase that is heavily involved in a campaign against ISIL.”
Speaking to RT earlier on Friday, Homs Governor Barazi said that 14 people were killed in the strike, including nine civilians. At least thirteen women and children, living in the nearby villages, have been injured in the attack, he said.
The strike has caused mixed reaction within international community. While Saudi Arabia, Israel, Turkey and Syrian rebels and a number of western countries, including the UK, France and Germany, have expressed support for Donald Trump’s unilateral decision to attack Syria, others, including Russia, Iran and Bolivia have decried the strike as unwarranted aggression, bearing resemblance to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
Russia’s President Putin has denounced the strike as an act of “aggression against a sovereign nation” while Russian deputy acting envoy to the UN, Vladimir Safronkov, said it had “raised the spirits of terrorists,” accusing Washington of unwillingness to conduct a “real investigation” in the suspected chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun.
