Patsy Palmer was invited to talk to Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain today but the interview came to a sudden end when the EastEnders star saw what was written on the banner displayed below her. The GMB presenters were horrified by the actress response and apologised but Patsy cut off the interview.

Ben asked: “Did you move to Malibu to get away from people shouting ‘Ricky’ at you in the streets?”

“Not really,” Patsy replied. “Not just for that reason, maybe one of them.”

“Well, Patsy do you know what?” Susanna began. “You have done what Meghan and Harry which is get away from the UK, go off to California and set up a new life.

“And I know you’ve spoken about Meghan and Harry as well. I wonder whether you do get more privacy over there?”

“That’s a terrible shame, our apologies to Patsy and well she’s entitled not to do the interview and we carry on,” Susanna said.

Later on, discussing the interview, Ben quipped: “There’s a link isn’t there? I wasn’t here previously, there’s a common denominator.

“I just want to say the really important thing is our intention was never to upset Patsy Palmer. We were very keen to talk to her, Patsy has talked in the past, she’s talked in her book particularly about her addiction, her stints in rehab and now she has a wellness brand.

“She’s promoting that and it was the journey that she’s been on to get to where she is today, what she’s learnt and that’s what we mistakenly misread.”

“It wasn’t intended as an ambush,” Susanna said and Ben added: “Not for a minute and we do apologise to Patsy.”

GMB viewers shared their support for Patsy on Twitter as one wrote: “Patsy Palmer swerving #gmb is the best thing I’ve seen since Piers did it.”

“Patsy Palmer needs to own her past. It doesn’t define who you are now. Acknowledge what you’ve overcome and own it. Besides it looked like she couldn’t be bothered to do the interview from the start #GMB,” another said.

While a third added: “@GMB I’m absolutely disgusted by your treatment of @patsypalmerx this morning! Handled with true dignity by Patsy. I think GMB’s days are numbered!

Someone else shared: “@patsypalmerx Well Done Patsy, putting GMB in their place! They throw whatever they like on the screen, not caring about the individual, good for you, a new craze has started, Doing a Piers!”

Good Morning Britain airs on ITV on weekdays at 6am.

A Portrait of the Artist as an Addict https://briefnews.eu/a-portrait-of-the-artist-as-an-addict/ https://briefnews.eu/a-portrait-of-the-artist-as-an-addict/#respond Thu, 22 Mar 2018 08:57:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/a-portrait-of-the-artist-as-an-addict/ Catholic exorcism, shamanic ritual, IV amino acids, rebirthing, saline injections, cryotherapy: Amy Dresner has tried them all (and then some) in the hopes of curing her co-occurring addiction and depression. They represent not only the sheer desperation of someone living with mental illness and an addictive personality but also Dresner’s affluence — each of these designer treatments comes with a hefty price tag.

Chaizeshotcolor

Critics of Dresner’s breakout book, My Fair Junkie: A Memoir of Getting Dirty and Staying Clean, argue that her wealthy Los Angeles upbringing means she’s out of touch with the average drug user. “Andrea,” a Goodreads reviewer, writes, “It’s difficult for me to feel sorry for someone that has multiple stays in a Malibu rehab. Where I am from, in our socioeconomic class, we go to jail for many, many years at a time when we get caught having drug addictions or behavioral issues.” A valid response, but one that doesn’t negate Dresner’s experiences — or the fact that a privileged upbringing isn’t a safeguard against mental illness and addiction.

Tall and lanky with honey-blond hair — the very picture of LA cool until you hear her deep, smoke-filled-pool-hall voice — Dresner is someone who can change the energy in a room. Maybe it’s from her years doing stand-up comedy, a profession that requires an attitude equal parts blasé and I-got-this. Or maybe it’s the result of growing up a self-professed Beverly Hills “Jewish American Princess,” the only child of a fashion designer mother and a screenwriter father. Or it could derive from the grandiosity associated with borderline personality disorder (a diagnosis Dresner has managed with various treatments but isn’t sure she agrees with). Or it’s simply who she is. But what is certain? Amy Dresner commands people’s attention.

“I will gut you like a fish, you fat fuck.” This is Dresner on the opening page of My Fair Junkie. It’s Christmas 2011, and she’s brandishing a knife at her husband. She’s also high on OxyContin, which she chases with Valium after her husband calls the cops. “If the police are coming for me,” Dresner remembers thinking, “I need to be relaxed. … I crush the pills with the handle of my electric toothbrush and cut thick lines with my credit card.” As the patrol cars screech into her driveway, she rails her lines of sedative.

She doesn’t present as particularly likable — instead, she comes across as a foulmouthed, anxious, depressed addict stumbling toward recovery. Which suits her just fine.

For readers unfamiliar with Dresner’s work as a Psychology Today blogger or writer/editor for the Fix, they’re about to learn that she has been diagnosed with varying mood disorders and, beginning in her mid-20s, she injected enough methamphetamine to give herself epilepsy. She doesn’t present as particularly likable — instead, she comes across as a foulmouthed, anxious, depressed addict stumbling toward recovery. Which suits her just fine.

“I’m not interested in these intellectual arguments about whether addiction is a disease,” Dresner tells OZY. “I’m not interested in being an advocate. I’m not trying to start a movement. I’m just a junkie who wrote a book.”

And she’s by no means the first — bookstore shelves are groaning with confessional tales of torment and addiction. But where Dresner distinguishes herself is in her full-throttle honesty, even when that means incriminating herself. By committing an act of felony domestic violence, she tanked her marriage and was thrown in jail until her mother posted part of her $ 50,000 bail. She took enough drugs to trigger epilepsy, and then took some more. She suffers from a mental illness — or a couple — but refuses therapy and is very self-selective about psychiatric medications she’s willing to take (antidepressants make the cut, but lithium “made no difference” and antipsychotics turned her into “a zombie”). She loves sex but admits that she used it in much the same way she used drugs. “When you’re going to meet someone to fuck them for the first time, you’re shaking with anticipation. It’s like meeting the dealer,” she tells OZY. As debates about mental illness and addiction become increasingly politicized, whether that’s gun control or the opioid crisis, Dresner laying bare her struggles without assigning blame or latching on to any agenda seems downright radical.

Mg 8484 edit 1

“A lot of times when people write about addiction, they do it pretentiously or they’re feeling sorry for themselves,” says Peter Steinberg, Dresner’s agent at Foundry Media. “But she was … honest and blunt. It felt very fresh.”

But Dresner’s brand of bluntness is not always welcome. Tammy Jo Dearen, a friend who met Dresner on the stand-up circuit, says that they took a “hiatus” after one of Dresner’s suicide attempts, which triggered yet another drug and alcohol relapse. Before the break, Dearen describes their relationship as “a little bit like a rodeo. … I would have her host a [comedy] show, and she would show up late, show up crying; everything was about Amy.”

That level of self-absorption, according to Dearen, slowly changed after Dresner was given community service as part of the plea deal that dropped her felony domestic violence charge to a misdemeanor. It was while sweeping up discarded syringes and other trash from the streets of downtown Los Angeles that she looked at the advantages she’d been given, and began to think about helping others — in part by sharing her story, stripped of excuses or meaningless mea culpas.

Or, as Dearen puts it: “She went from this crazy entitled asshat to this beautiful loving woman [trying] to be of service in the best way she can.” And that best way is to show a different side of recovery: no crystalline revelations, just a murky mess of progress and setbacks, self-loathing and self-affirmation, bitchiness and bravery. It’s not for everyone, but for those willing to listen, this recovering drug addict and “all-around fuckup” has plenty to say.

  • Millennials are known for carrying a cell phone at all times — especially during travel.
  • Travel company Off the Grid wants to change that with its primary rule: no smartphones allowed.
  • Before each trip begins, millennials hand over the cell phone they brought and receive “dumb phones” that can’t take photos or access the internet.
  • The goal is to encourage travelers of all ages to be more present in the moment on vacation.

For too many people, taking a vacation is more about finding the perfect photo than actually enjoying their new surroundings.

One travel company is trying to change that.

Tom Hardy: Bond favourite will play heroin addict war veteran in the 'next Apocalypse Now' https://briefnews.eu/tom-hardy-bond-favourite-will-play-heroin-addict-war-veteran-in-the-next-apocalypse-now/ https://briefnews.eu/tom-hardy-bond-favourite-will-play-heroin-addict-war-veteran-in-the-next-apocalypse-now/#respond Sat, 29 Jul 2017 18:00:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tom-hardy-bond-favourite-will-play-heroin-addict-war-veteran-in-the-next-apocalypse-now/

The British star will follow the World War II epic Dunkirk with a more modern account of warfare in My War Gone By, I Miss It So, based on the memoirs of veteran reporter Anthony Loyd.

The film will tackle the horrors of modern warfare and drug abuse.

Hardy said: “My War Gone By is a brutal yet sensitive story which addresses both the nature of addiction and the experience of war.

“I was struck by Anthony’s work and words, experiences, and for me his is an important voice and an important book.”

The actor reamins the favourite to succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond. He is currently starring as a bomber pilot in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. The director recently finally revealed why

My War Gone By, I Miss It So is based on the 1999 book of the same name. it recounts Loyd’s experiences of the The Bosnian War as the former Yugoslavia continued to break into smaller independent nations.

The international armed conflict raged in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995 and involved troops from many NATO countries.

Loyd is an English journalist and war correspondent from a military family.

His account of the Bosnian War covers his experiences at the war front and personal reflections of his time in the British army. He admitted that his addiction to the adrenaline of covering the war contributed to his own personal battle against substance abuse.

Gavin O’Connor will direct and produce and has referred to the story at the next Apocalypse Now.

O’Connor told Variety: “Anthony’s memoir was love at first page — a portrait of war like I’d never read before.

“An up-close-and-personal account of a heroin junkie reporting from the front lines of Bosnia — the bloodiest conflict Europe has witnessed since the Second World War — who uses the high of war to kick his drug habit.

“It’s a book written with both fists. It’s Anthony’s Apocalypse Now. I feel privileged and honored for the opportunity to bring the book to the movies.”

Manila casino attacker was gambling addict, not ISIS terrorist – police https://briefnews.eu/manila-casino-attacker-was-gambling-addict-not-isis-terrorist-police/ https://briefnews.eu/manila-casino-attacker-was-gambling-addict-not-isis-terrorist-police/#respond Mon, 05 Jun 2017 03:55:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/manila-casino-attacker-was-gambling-addict-not-isis-terrorist-police/

Philippines police on Sunday revealed that the Resorts World Manila attacker was 42-year-old father-of-three Jessie Javier Carlos, a Catholic man with a gambling addiction and no connection to terrorism.

“He was barred by Pagcor (the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation) from all casinos because of the request of next of kin. This could have probably triggered him. That’s why he was so mad at casinos,” police spokesman Oscar Albayalde told a news conference, as cited by AFP.

“As we always maintained, this was not an act of terrorism,” he added.

Carlos, a former employee of the Philippines Department of Finance, recently lost his job and was a heavy gambler, according to police and relatives, as reported by the New York Times.

Albayalde said that Carlos had lost his job for withholding financial information from his employers and had accrued $ 80,000 in debt.

He was banned from casinos in April by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) at his family’s request to try and curb his gambling addiction.

“My son was a good person, but changed after he started going to casinos,” Carlos’ mother, Teodora, told the press conference.

Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attack at Resorts World Manila but this has been debunked by investigators and by the man’s own family members.

Police were initially skeptical of the IS link as Carlos’ behaviour did not indicate he was attempting to inflict maximum casualties, given that he was armed with an M4 rifle but did not shoot at people who were fleeing the scene, instead firing warning shots into the air.

“I would call him a habitual gambler. He lost everything in his life and became crazy. He lost his mind. He vented his anger [through the incident],” President Duterte told reporters on Sunday, as cited by AFP.

The taxi driver who drove him to the casino also provided testimony to the police, which helped narrow the scope of their investigation.

Video footage of the attack was made public Saturday and showed Carlos starting fires in the casino and stealing over $ 2 million in gambling chips.

Almost all of the 37 people killed in the incident died from smoke inhalation as a result of the fire. Carlos took his own life via self-immolation, which delayed the police investigation into the incident.

Police were eventually able to confirm the man’s identity from a scar on his burned remains after family members advised them that he had previously undergone gall bladder surgery.

Junk food addict dumped by his girlfriend for gaining weight sheds six stone by doing THIS https://briefnews.eu/junk-food-addict-dumped-by-his-girlfriend-for-gaining-weight-sheds-six-stone-by-doing-this/ https://briefnews.eu/junk-food-addict-dumped-by-his-girlfriend-for-gaining-weight-sheds-six-stone-by-doing-this/#respond Wed, 29 Mar 2017 14:09:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/junk-food-addict-dumped-by-his-girlfriend-for-gaining-weight-sheds-six-stone-by-doing-this/

Miro Judt, 33, saw his weight climb after he gave up on exercise and became addicted to full sugar fizzy drinks, takeaways, crisps and chocolate.

But after his girlfriend dumped him he vowed to turn his life around and embarked on a gruelling exercise and diet routine.

Less then one year later he was in the shape of his life after losing 6.5 stones and gaining a serious amount of muscle.

Now he’s also happily loved up with new model partner Victoria and has also clinched his dream job in the fitness industry with PredatorNutrition.com.

Miro, from Wakefield, started to put on weight after living off a toxic diet of fatty fast foods and snacks.

But when his girlfriend of six years called a halt to their relationship telling Miro he’d let himself go, it was the wake up call he needed.

After seeking advice from a competitive body builder he was able to create a diet plan that put him on track towards getting the physique he craved. The Body Coach Joe Wicks recently revealed the one food he would never eat.

Miro, 33, stuck to a clean living diet that included fish, chicken, egg whites and protein shakes, supplemented by products from Predator Nutrition.

He also started putting in twice daily cardio shifts as well as lifting heavy weights and was able to lose over 6.5 stones in just nine months.

He met glamour model Victoria Wilson on a dating website after she was impressed by his muscular physique, and after hitting it off they have now lived together for over a year.

They even work out together, with Miro regularly acting as her trainer when the pair hit the gym for a couples’ workout.

Miro said: “When I was younger I didn’t care what I was eating and drinking, and was regularly knocking back full fat bottles of coke and ordering unhealthy takeaways.

“The problem was I had no real concept of what a nutritional diet was, so I put on a lot of excess weight.

“My long-term girlfriend leaving me was the real turning point. She was so dismissive of me and had no belief that I could lose the weight.

“I felt so hurt, but I decided there and then that I was going to change and to show her that I could do better and improve my physique.

“I cut out all junk food and fizzy drinks from my diet whilst adjusting my calorie intake, and thanks to help from a bodybuilder I was able to start on a strict diet that helped me slim down.

“Meeting Victoria was the best thing that ever happened to me, and she has really given me my confidence back.

“We’ve even started hitting the gym together, and always help each other to make sure we are both sticking to our diets.

“I know that the reason Victoria got with me is because of my physique, but we have been together for a long time now and I know that is because she loves me for who I am.

“For me she is the one, and my hope is that one day we will get married. When I’m with her, I know that all this hard work to lose the weight really was worth it. If my ex girlfriend can see me now, I hope she’ll realise what she is missing out on.”

Weight loss before and after transformation of fizzy drink addict mum will SHOCK you https://briefnews.eu/weight-loss-before-and-after-transformation-of-fizzy-drink-addict-mum-will-shock-you/ https://briefnews.eu/weight-loss-before-and-after-transformation-of-fizzy-drink-addict-mum-will-shock-you/#respond Sat, 11 Mar 2017 12:29:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/weight-loss-before-and-after-transformation-of-fizzy-drink-addict-mum-will-shock-you/

Katherine Salcedo, 36, loved calorie-laden Dr Pepper so much she’d keep a 330ml can by her bed and a 12 pack constantly in her fridge.

On waking, before even going to the toilet or brushing her teeth, she’d neck her Dr P, cherishing the sugar boost and sweet taste. After that, she’d have a further three cans throughout the day.

In total she’d guzzle 14 litres of the drink, with the slogan ‘Dr Pepper, so misunderstood’,  each week.

“People would say Dr Pepper was misunderstood, but in reality I was,” she said. “I was constantly mistaken for being pregnant.”

It wasn’t just Dr Pepper – which contains 96 calories a can and 24 grams of sugar per 330ml – which made Katherine’s weight balloon.

She also gorged on a daily cheese burger, with large chips from McDonald’s, totalling 745 calories a go.

No morning was complete without a visit to her local drive-thru in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

Every day, she would also drive four miles to other fast food restaurants and splash out up to £25 a day on high-calorie food.

Katherine Salcedo underwent a shocking transformation after losing seven stone by giving up soda

In 2007 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, because of my weight. I was constantly sweaty and jittery all the time. I felt so nauseous when my blood sugar plummeted

Katherine Salcedo

“I’d scoff fried chicken,” she said, confessing that she would happily consume 4,000 calories daily.

On an average day, for lunch, she’d guzzle a Subway foot-long sandwich and a large bag of crisps– always accompanied by her beloved Dr Pepper.

Working as a supervisor for a sleep clinic, Katherine realised her waistline was bulging, while her bank account was shrinking.

She has always been big, but her terrible diet saw her hit 17-stone aged 27.

Just 5ft 3ins tall, she wore a UK size 26 and had to buy her clothes from a plus size section.

“It was a nightmare getting anything to fit. Because my middle was so big, clothes would fit my legs and arms but would be so tight and uncomfortable around my belly.”

Her hefty bulk also started impacting on her health. She said: “In 2007 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, because of my weight. I was constantly sweaty and jittery all the time. I felt so nauseous when my blood sugar plummeted.

“My blood pressure was high, too. It really wasn’t good.”

But her turning point came one day when she was 28, when someone asked ‘when are you due?’, assuming her Dr Pepper belly was a baby.

“I was so embarrassed. I tried to brush it off, but something needed to change.”

Katherine, who has two sons, Damian, eight, and Adrian, five,  was determined to slim down – losing nearly four stone in a year and learning how to cook delicious meals from scratch.

By 30 – 12 months after revamping her diet and eating salads, protein shakes and fresh vegetables, and doing power-walking and work-out games at home – she weighed 13 stone and was wearing a UK size 22.

Still eager to lose more weight, in April 2015 Katherine had an £8,000 gastric sleeve operation at Texas General Hospital.

Katherine and her construction worker husband Carlos, 38, financed the operation, which entailed removing part of her stomach leaving a thin vertical sleeve, with a loan.

Under the knife for two hours, she emerged with a stomach half the size.

Unable to eat full portions, in six months her weight plummeted from 13 stone to nine and a half stone and she could wear slinky UK size 10 clothes.

now close upPA Real Life

Katherine is now desperate to shed excess skin she carried after losing moe than seven stone

Unfortunately, though, her rapid weight loss left her with a curtain of excess skin.

No amount of exercise or healthy eating can shift it, making surgery to slice it off, costing £25,000, the only solution – but it is money she can’t afford.

“We don’t want to be in more debt, so need to find another way to get the money.

“It feels so horrible and is so hard to wear nice clothes because of it.

“I want to feel comfortable, but I still have all this excess skin and lots of rashes where it rubs against my clothes.”

Desperate for help, so she can finally feel good about herself and be in better shape to look after her kids, Katherine is now appealing for people to help her pay for the surgery.

“I wasn’t greedy, I had a sugar addiction which took over my life. I have worked so hard to lose the weight, now I feel I could go either way and become a new person with this transformation.

“I want to be able to play sports with my children and not have anything flapping about in the wind.”
