Rose Wilson very much earns her eventual codename in this exclusive sneak peek from DC Universe’s Titans.

In the second episode of Season 2, which premieres this Friday and is aptly titled “Rose,” three months have passed since the team’s encounter with Trigon, and Dick is hard at work training Rachel, Gar and Jason in Titans Tower. Meanwhile, the rest of the heroes have embarked on the next phase of their lives, with Hank and Dawn retreating to Wyoming, and Donna and Kory tracking down a rogue metahuman.

Everyone’s search for a “new normal,” however, is soon enough disrupted by “old threats from the past and the emergence of a mysterious young runaway.”

Said runaway, Rose “Daughter of Slade/Deathstroke” Wilson (played by new series regular Chelsea T. Zhang, of Andi Mack and Netflix’s upcoming Daybreak), first gains the Titans’ attention when a bit of grand theft auto leads to her getting into a fracas with the fuzz, all caught by live TV news coverage.

Press play above to see Rose show off her considerable skills, then tell us if you’re as taken with her as Dick and the gang. Also, is it me or does she have her father’s eyes?

Bumblebee movie TRAILER: Transformers prequel gets first action-packed teaser – WATCH https://briefnews.eu/bumblebee-movie-trailer-transformers-prequel-gets-first-action-packed-teaser-watch/ https://briefnews.eu/bumblebee-movie-trailer-transformers-prequel-gets-first-action-packed-teaser-watch/#respond Tue, 05 Jun 2018 08:34:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bumblebee-movie-trailer-transformers-prequel-gets-first-action-packed-teaser-watch/

The multi-billion dollar Transformers franchise is finally getting its own spin-off.

But this isn’t just any, it’s a full on prequel for Bumblebee set over 30 years ago.

The official synopsis reads: “On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town.

“Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.”

It continues: “When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.”

Meanwhile Cena plays Burns, an agent of Sector 7 and Bumblebee will face a Deception than transforms into a red 1971 Plymouth GTX.

Michael Bay has directed all the Transformers movies to date, but this one is being helmed by Travis Knight.

The animator directed Kubo and the Two Strings a couple of years ago and Bumblebee is his second movie.

Action-Packed ‘Cloak and Dagger’ Trailer Shows Off Marvel’s Latest Divine Pairing https://briefnews.eu/action-packed-cloak-and-dagger-trailer-shows-off-marvels-latest-divine-pairing/ https://briefnews.eu/action-packed-cloak-and-dagger-trailer-shows-off-marvels-latest-divine-pairing/#respond Mon, 30 Apr 2018 19:59:10 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/action-packed-cloak-and-dagger-trailer-shows-off-marvels-latest-divine-pairing/ extended Cloak and Dagger trailer

While all eyes are on Marvel Studios and Avengers: Infinity War right now, Marvel Television is about to launch a brand new TV show with Cloak & Dagger. Freeform has debuted a final trailer for the series, and it proves that this isn’t just going to be another teen soap opera – this thing has some kick to it, too. Check out the extended Cloak and Dagger trailer below.

Cloak and Dagger Trailer

OK, so Cloak and Dagger definitely is a teen soap opera. That’s Freeform’s bread and butter. But as this trailer reveals, there’s some serious ass-kicking in store as well. This is by far my favorite trailer they’ve released thus far: it’s got some Aladdin vibes in the very beginning with the street rat duo of Cloak (Aubrey Joseph) and Dagger (Olivia Holt), and I’m really digging the cover of “House of the Rising Sun” they’ve been leaning on for this campaign. Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball, Sony’s upcoming superhero film Silver & Black) directed the pilot, and it looks like she delivered.

/Film contributor Meredith Borders saw a sneak peek of the show’s pilot at the SXSW Film Festival in March, and after just the first hour of what will be a two-hour episode, she said “it’s clear that it’ll be among the upper echelon of Marvel television.” Here’s a quick excerpt from her review:

The [show] looks great, too. It’s much richer and more textured than a lot of these superhero shows (and, for that matter, than most Freeform shows). As Tandy and Tyrone begin to discover their powers (for Cloak, that means the ability to teleport himself through the Darkforce dimension, and for Dagger, the ability to create daggers of light), they manifest in a really visually organic way, miles from the corny effects that most of superhero television delivers. The move from New York to New Orleans is smart, as there’s an earthy, soulful feel to Cloak & Dagger. New Orleans has such a dramatic history, and the locale sets the series apart from the many superhero shows that take place in New York (and are mainly filmed in Vancouver).

Andrea Roth, Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, Carl Lundstedt, Emma Lahana, Jaime Zevallos, and J.D. Evermore co-star. Check out the official synopsis below:

“Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” is the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) – two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

Cloak & Dagger premieres on June 7, 2018.

Northern Lights RanchNORTHERNLIGHTSRANCH

Northern Lights Ranch comprises a collection of plush cabins with glass ceilings and walls

The wind whips my face and my fingers are numb with cold, yet it’s exhilarating.

I’m spending the afternoon snowmobiling through the forests and fields of Lapland, northern Finland.

While Britons may associate this part of the world with Santa, sleighs and sacks full of presents, a trip over the winter months is the best time to revel in an area packed with activities and potentially a Northern Lights sighting or two.

And with new direct flights from London to nearby Kittilä with Finnair, it is even easier to visit.

My two-hour snowmobiling session takes me over snow-covered lakes, through dark, dense patches of pine and along isolated paths, without a car or building in sight.

FinlandVISITFINLAND

The Northern Lights occur when charged solar particles collide with gases in the upper atmosphere

Drifting off to sleep while gazing up at a star-filled sky isn’t a bad way to round off my trip to Finnish Lapland

It’s 3pm yet the light has already faded, the sky is filled with snow and there’s a magical Narnia-esque eeriness in the peaceful, late-afternoon darkness.

Thanks to my location in deepest northern Europe, it’s pitch-black when I get up, too.

My base is the Northern Lights Ranch, a clutch of plush cabins which dot the remote, snow and forest-filled fields 30 minutes outside of Levi, one of Finland’s most popular ski resorts.

My cosy and compact room comes with floor-to-ceiling glass walls on two sides, with a glass ceiling for prime Northern Lights viewing.

Each night I lie in bed – it even has a remote to manoeuvre me into a comfortable seated position – gazing up at the stars, urging the famous green swirls to emerge. It could be a long wait.

SnowmobileGETTY

Snowmobiling offers the perfect means of exploring the winter tundra

The Northern Lights don’t come out on demand, far from it. In fact the notoriously elusive phenomenon is the result of charged solar particles colliding with gases in our Earth’s upper atmosphere, meaning that no matter how much you really want to see them, it’s really down to good luck.

In the meantime there’s plenty more to keep me entertained, and it starts with reindeer. Thousands of them.

There are more reindeer than people in Lapland and at Northern Lights Ranch you can get close enough for a cuddle with young ones.

At this age, barely a few months old, they look like stocky, rugged sheep.

And when they aren’t nudging you for a handful of hay they’re burying their chunky bodies in the snow for warmth.

It’s not a bad idea. Here in Finnish Lapland the locals don’t shy away from the cold, in fact they embrace it, and there’s nothing that’ll get the circulation going like a sauna and snow session.

It starts with 15 minutes in the ranch’s sauna, where the heat gently seeps into my cold-shocked limbs.

Then it’s on to the tough part: a drop of the robe and a quick dive into the thigh-deep snow, which surrounds my near-naked body with icy particles that make me shriek and swear.

Relief comes when I submerge myself in the steaming outdoor Jacuzzi, where I sit in the pitch black and relax in the very welcome silence.

The next day calls for something similarly challenging.

One of the best ways to explore Lapland is by foot, or rather by snowshoe

One of the best ways to explore this part of the world is by foot, or rather by snowshoe.

Imagine long tennis rackets strapped to your boots, which increase surface area and allow you to pad through the snow more easily.

“Move your right arm with your left leg,” my guide Oli tells me, as I divert all concentration to my steps, “and if you fall over just do a snow angel!”

Once the technique is mastered – admittedly it takes me a while – I realise it’s the best way to experience “kaamos”, that small window of hours when glints of daylight turn the sky a dusty orange.

It’s a magical sight to witness and for someone exposed to traffic and technology 24/7 it feels like a rare moment of inner peace.

But a trip here doesn’t have to revolve around peace and tranquility.

In nearby Levi floodlit ski slopes are the playground for fearless professionals and even more fearless toddlers.

They hurtle down the slopes on skis and sleds, before taking the lift up to more of the 43 pistes dotted around the town.

There are 142 miles of cross-country skiing tracks to make the most of, meaning if downhill skiing isn’t all that appealing, you can navigate your skis along gently-sloping tracks through fields and forests, combining your sightseeing with your cardio session.

It’s the perfect warm-up for my evening activities.

No, not exploring Levi’s bars, clubs and karaoke rooms – of which there are many – but soaking myself in the Hotel Levi Panorama spa.

At first, the thought of stripping out of my thermals and snowsuit feels like a fast track to a cold.

But as I swap between the maze of saunas, steam rooms and bubbling pools of hot water, I soon realise it’s the perfect antidote to my trip’s chilly activities.

That night I peer out from under my duvet waiting for the Northern Lights. They never arrive but I don’t mind.

Drifting off to sleep while gazing up at a star-filled sky isn’t a bad way to round off my trip to Finnish Lapland.

Chamonix: Hit the challenging slopes of France's action-packed adventure https://briefnews.eu/chamonix-hit-the-challenging-slopes-of-frances-action-packed-adventure/ https://briefnews.eu/chamonix-hit-the-challenging-slopes-of-frances-action-packed-adventure/#respond Sun, 03 Dec 2017 01:23:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/chamonix-hit-the-challenging-slopes-of-frances-action-packed-adventure/

The Vallée Blanche in Chamonix is one of the world’s most spectacular off-piste ski descents.

It starts from the Aiguille du Midi cable car – Europe’s highest at 12,600ft – and runs for 14 miles across the cascading snow-covered glaciers of the Mont Blanc massif mountain range.

It is unmarked, unmaintained and unpatrolled, so not for the faint-hearted but something most intermediate skiers can tackle if accompanied by a guide.

Jean Franck, the sixth generation of his family to work as a Chamonix ski guide, met us, armed with crampons, ropes, harnesses and avalanche transceivers.

The cable car soon whisked us up to the top of Mont Blanc, the closest you can get to the summit of Europe’s highest peak without hiking or climbing.

The view across miles of snowy peaks spanning France, Italy and Switzerland was breathtaking – as was the lack of oxygen in the air.

We followed Jean Franck through an icy tunnel leading out on to the mountain. Before us was a sign saying “Skiers Beware” and the narrowest of snowy ridges with a near-vertical drop on both sides and just a simple rope fence to cling on to.

He helped us strap crampons on to our boots and roped us together in a long line and we inched our way along the 330ft ridge, clutching the rope and trying not to look down.

It was nerve-racking but after about 15 minutes we were relieved to reach a wider, flatter part of the mountain where we clicked in our skis.

Whizzing through the silent, remote valley with not a chairlift or another skier in sight, we experienced a rush of adrenaline and a real sensation of wilderness.

All around us were magnificent glacial formations sparkling in the sun and on the craggy mountain rocks. After a couple of hours, we reached the Refuge du Requin, a simple stone building which offers overnight stays to skiers and climbers throughout the year.

There we enjoyed a hearty lunch of soup and pasta. In the afternoon we stopped off to explore amazing ice caves deep inside the glaciers and ended our adventure on a funicular train that took us, exhausted but elated, back into Chamonix.

There, over hot chocolate and beers, we reflected on an epic life experience that we’d never forget.

The usual teenage nonchalance from Millie and Alex was replaced with a proud sense of achievement and awe – we had challenged our fears and reaped the rewards.

Back at our chic apartment complex, the newly built Le Cristal de Jade, we soothed our aching limbs in the pool, sauna and steam room.

We then headed out into Chamonix’s picturesque town centre where upmarket boutiques and gourmet restaurants nestle alongside rustic burger joints and lively bars.

The previous evening we had gone along with teen demands for burgers and tacos at the highly recommended Monkey bar. But tonight we bagged a table at Le Cap Horn, where the unusual mix of sushi, seafood and traditional regional dishes wins high praise in the Michelin guide.

While extensive off-piste arenas satisfy the more extreme skiers, there is plenty for beginners and intermediates, too, especially at family friendly Les Houches on the outskirts of the resort.

It’s also a short drive through the impressive seven-mile long Mont Blanc Tunnel to Courmayeur in Italy, where we skied for the day and enjoyed a delicious fresh pasta lunch in one of its renowned mountain restaurants. After a week of adventure in the snow, Chamonix is now undoubtedly one of our favourite ski resorts.

Warning: There are massive spoilers ahead for “The Walking Dead.”

The season eight premiere of “The Walking Dead” was one of the show’s largest episodes to date.

Not only did it bring together just about everyone on the show’s large cast for its 100th episode, but it was a fast-paced, action-packed hour which may have left fans with more questions than answers. What was up with those flash-forwards? Why didn’t Rick kill Negan when he clearly had the chance? And are we ever going to see Heath again?

INSIDER spoke with the show’s executive producer and episode director Greg Nicotero about the biggest questions from the season premiere, a big moment you may have overlooked in plain sight, and his favorite Easter eggs on the episode.

Kirsten Acuna: I was surprised to see Old Man Rick on this episode. Why was it important to show him in the premiere? I thought we may see that a little bit later.

Greg Nicotero: Well, I think what we love to do on the show sometimes is give our audience some clues to a puzzle and allow them to start interpreting what it all means. I think the idea that we’re going into war, the opportunity to get a glimpse of what life could be after the war is pretty great. That’s what they’re fighting for. They’re fighting for this life, so I think it’s important always to be able to give the audience little pieces of information and allow them to start working out what the details are. It’s pretty great.

Acuna: Yes. Is that really supposed to be two years, like in the comics? Rick looks kind of old with the gray hair. And Judith looks quite a bit older.

old man rick walking deadAMC

Nicotero: Yeah. I think it’s probably a little more than that, because Judith does look older and Rick looks … He’s just a little grayer with his crew cut and such. I don’t know if we’ve ever really sort of worked out the exact timeline in terms of exactly how many years in the future it is, but Alexandria’s a pretty exciting, great, thriving community.

judith walking deadAMC

Acuna: It looks that way. Well, it’s good to know that that’s Alexandria we see. It seems like we have a few timelines playing out on the episode. We have the regular one of them going to war. We see future Rick. Then there’s this other Rick with the rainbow light shining on his face. It’s a little confusing, but it seems like it will make sense as the season plays out. Is there anything you can say about that? I’ve seen some comparing it to the flash sideways scenes from “Lost.”

Nicotero: Yeah. I mean, that will unfold as the series continues. I’m sad to say that I’ve never seen “Lost.”

Acuna: Oh!

Nicotero:  I know. I know. Simon Pegg has basically said, “When you have time, that’s what you need to sit down and watch.”

Acuna: Yes.

Nicotero: It gives me something to look forward to. But I know [showrunner] Scott [Gimple] is a big fan, so it’s very possible that Scott has weaved some of those bits and pieces in there. I just might not be aware of it, because I’m not familiar, as familiar, with it.

Acuna: OK. Well, when you get a chance, it did feel like there was some of that influence there. Can we talk a bit about the role that time plays on the episode? I know I mentioned the timelines, but there’s a lot of focus on watches and time. Why is that?

Nicotero: I think it’s always a situation where we’re dealing with a finite amount of time to actually accomplish what they need to do. The Saviors have numbers and strength behind them, so now the fact that our groups, our worlds, or our communities, have finally banded together, Maggie mentions, “Oh, we’ve all trained for this.” They’ve spent several days working out what their plan is going to be, but there always is … In any sort of orchestrated scenario like this, it has to be choreographed. We see a lot of bits and pieces of leading the herd towards the Sanctuary, and Carol and Tara are timing out how long the walkers are taking to get to certain road maps, so they know when to detonate the bomb, when to lead the herd off of the freeway and towards the Sanctuary. Everything is very elegantly choreographed for exactly that reason.

tara carol the walking deadAMC

Acuna: I’m glad you mentioned the horde of walkers. You said at New York Comic Con there were a lot of Easter eggs on this episode. I was wondering if the herd Daryl helps direct towards the Sanctuary, may that be the same herd Joey was trying to misdirect on season seven before he was killed?

Nicotero: Yes. I think that’s safe to say. We sort of played with the idea that that herd was trapped on the freeway, and it was the one that we saw in the midseason premiere of season seven where Rick and Michonne drive the cable through all the walkers. We discussed the intent that it is the same freeway that we’ve seen before.

the walking dead rick 709Gene Page/AMC
daryl the walking dead 801Gene Page/AMC

Acuna: That’s awesome to know. I’ve been keeping tabs on all the little mentions you guys have been throwing in along season seven. I think one of the biggest questions of the episode that fans will have is, “Why doesn’t Rick just go and kill Negan?” I know that Gabriel stops him. He says it’s not about him, it’s about a larger world, but doesn’t it end with killing Negan?

Nicotero: It does. But, I think what he’s trying to say is it’s not just about killing Negan, but it’s about how and what they do after, which is … It’s a very important theme.

I think the fact that Gabriel and Negan end up together when Gabriel was the one that was saying, “This is not just about one person,” I think he’s also just trying to keep Rick focused and realize that he is their leader and they’re following him into this battle where people could die.

gabriel the walking dead Gene Page/AMC

Acuna: Also, I love that Rick takes that little Polaroid. I know the Saviors are into taking photos of people, but why does Rick take that specific one of Negan?

Nicotero: I think it’s just like they did with Glenn and just like they did with all the other people that Negan killed with the bat. I think that was Negan’s way of having some proof as to like, “Oh, this is what we’re capable of doing.” As sort of not necessarily a deterrent, but an opportunity to go, “Listen, if you go with us, you can live. If you don’t, you go against us, this is what the result will be.”

I think there’s a little bit of glee from Rick when he takes that picture, because he’s got a little smirk on his face.

Acuna: Oh, certainly.

Nicotero: I think we’ll get a chance to see a little bit more of that as we continue.

Acuna: Interesting. One of the other big things people will be talking about is Rick’s quote near the end of the episode. “My mercy prevails over my wrath.” Why use that quote? I noticed it’s from Islam, maybe a nod to a character we may see on the premiere.

Nicotero: Well, there is a character at the beginning [of the episode] who said that, the character that Carl hears in the gas station. He says that.

carl the walking dead season 8.JPGGreg Nicotero/AMC

Acuna: Huh. I’m going to have to go back and listen. I missed that.

Nicotero: Yeah, unless it got cut out and I don’t know about it, but I think it was … I know it was in there when I shot it.

Acuna: OK. [For the record, we went back and watched the review episode after our interview and the line is in there when Carl is at the gas station. You have to listen carefully, or you may miss it.]

Nicotero: But yes, that has a significant place in terms of a character that’s introduced.

For more on that mysterious character, you can read our full breakdown on him here.

Acuna: There are a lot of little Easter eggs and throwbacks to other episodes, as you mentioned at Comic Con. Some are obvious, like the shot-for-shot re-creation of the pilot opening. What is your favorite that people may overlook?

Nicotero: Oh, let me think. Well, we had Rick waking up in the bed with the flowers. We had the gas station sequence. Of course, there’s that last shot of Gabriel and Negan in the trailer, and that high pull-up shot which is very reminiscent to the last shot in the pilot as well. There’s several of those little pieces in there.

the walking dead pilot 2010 endAMCgabriel trailer 801 twdAMC

Acuna: Yeah. Negan asks Rick if he thinks he has the numbers for their war on the episode. Do we know how many men Negan has? I feel like this is something I’ve been wondering since the end of season six. Rick’s group has taken out a lot of Saviors, but they always seem to keep popping up.

Nicotero: I don’t think we’ve ever honestly defined that, because there are outposts. As we’ve seen in the show, every once in a while they will turn around and attack an outpost or come upon groups of people, but I don’t know if we know exactly how many satellite outposts there are. It’s hard to say. You have the people living in the Sanctuary, some of them that are workers and then some of them that are soldiers. I don’t think we’ve really ever indicated an exact number of people.

negan saviorsAMC

Acuna:  Right. OK. The start of “All Out War” in the show, it’s very different from the comics. In the comics, there’s a second lineup [of Rick’s group that Negan does which mirrors the season seven premiere]. Were there ever plans to do that, or is that something that was maybe changed up after how the reception to season seven premiere was? I feel like you guys kind of hit on that on the season seven finale instead, when you just had Rick and Carl down on their knees.

Nicotero: Yeah. I think that’s an accurate assessment, which was that, yeah, there was no reason to do it again, because Negan basically re-created that lineup again with Carl and Rick in the finale last year.

walking dead negan rick carlGene Page/AMC

Acuna:  OK, that was my sense watching the episode. That was the sense I got. I know Scott Gimple said something about this, but what is going on with Heath? I know Corey Hawkins is doing his own thing, but are we ever going to hear anything more of him? It just seems a little weird that no one has asked about where he is, unless that happened off-screen.

heath walking deadGene Page/AMC

Nicotero: You know, I don’t know. I love Corey. I think he’s a fantastic actor. I think we were lucky enough to grab him right at the moment where he sort of exploded onto the scene, so to speak. We can always hope that he can pop up every once in a while, or we leave it a little mysterious. We haven’t really addressed much of that as of late.

Acuna: Well, there’s always time down the line. You guys brought back Lennie James [as Morgan] years later, and that has been wonderful to see. Greg, is there anything else that you want to share about working on the premiere episode? I know you’ve directed so many episodes. I believe we see your face in the premiere. You’re one of the walkers, one of the disembodied heads.

walking dead season 8 greg nicoteroAMC

Nicotero: Yeah, that was a little tribute to “Day of the Dead,” which was my first movie. In the movie, my character gets killed, and then my head is reanimated as a zombie. We made a radio-controlled head of me as a tribute to that moment from “Day of the Dead.”

We had built it long before we had ever even knew that George [Romero] was ill. Then of course, he passed away in July, so I’m even more honored that that’s in there, because it’s yet another opportunity for me and for all of those people that just love and respect what George has done for us to pay tribute to him in the episode.

Acuna: Certainly. Thank you for sharing that. Well, I really enjoyed the episode. I hope you’re happy with how it turned out. I think the fans will be too.

Nicotero: Thank you for saying that. We’re in it so much. We’re just down there, and it’s kind of our own little bubble. Then we get to come up for air and go to San Diego, and then come up for air and go to New York, and then we go right back down to our little place down there. It feels like this has been the longest season in terms of really the anticipation of the show coming back on the air. It feels like it gets longer and longer. It’s not, but it just feels that way.

I’m really proud. I’m really excited. When I watched the episode, when it was over, I was like, “Oh my God, I can’t wait to see what happens next.” I’m like, “Wait a minute. I already know what happens next.” If I had that reaction, I’m really excited to see how other people will react.

norman reedus greg nicoteroGene Page/AMC

Acuna: I think one of the only problems I had was that I thought it was going to be like an extra-long episode like some of the other ones. I wanted there to be more.

Nicotero: You know what, this was such a complicated episode to shoot, because we had every single character in the whole show and all these locations, and setting the stage for the rest of the series. I would have loved it to have been a longer episode, but I honestly don’t know how we would have made it longer, because it was just … It’s a dense episode. There’s not one wasted frame of film.

This interview has been shortened and edited for clarity.

“The Walking Dead” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC. You can follow along with our coverage all season long here.

Warning: Huge spoilers for “Game of Thrones” season seven, episode six, “Beyond the Wall.” If you aren’t caught up on the series or the season, read at your own risk.

This week’s episode of “Game of Thrones,” “Beyond the Wall,” was one of the most anticipated of the season.

After the amazing ending last week, we get to see Jon Snow and his team of Westerosi misfits go beyond the wall (hey, that’s the title of the episode!) to fight the dead and capture a wight to prove this threat is real.

In addition to the action in the far North, there’s trouble in Winterfell with the Stark sisters, Brienne heads to King’s Landing to reunite with Jaime, and Daenerys shows off a new coat, losing a child in the process.

Here’s our recap of “Beyond the Wall:”

Jon Snow, Tormund Giantsbane, The Hound, Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr, Gendry, and Jorah Mormont try to capture a wight.

HBO/Helen Sloan

The Dream Team catches a wight but loses Thoros of Myr, who gets bitten by the White Walker bear and freezes to death during the long stand-off. Beric uses his flaming sword to burn his body so he doesn’t turn into a wight.

Before the showdown with the wights, Jon Snow sends Gendry back to Eastwatch to send a raven to Daenerys.

Jon Snow offers his Valyrian steel sword, Longclaw, to Jorah Mormont.

HBO

Longclaw has been in the Mormont family for centuries, but Jorah declines the offer. He says that it was given to Jon for a reason, and that he doesn’t deserve it since he’s considered a disgrace to his house for selling slaves.

Tormund tells The Hound that he wants to have children with Brienne of Tarth.

HBO

Apparently Tormund is convinced that Brienne is into him, but, like The Hound, we think that he might be a little bit delusional.

The latest Star Wars story is already here, and it’s free on YouTube. It’s a series of shorts called Forces of Destiny, and each one delivers action, humor, and a genuinely heartfelt moment of heroism. The best part about the series, authored by Marvel alum Jennifer Muro, is that it fills in backstory on characters that you always wondered about. (So yeah, it’s canon.)

Forces of Destiny is a 16-episode series, and the first eight were released this month. Eight more will come in October. The series is episodic, jumping around in time from Episodes 1 through 7 of the films. We see a lot of Rey (Daisy Ridley) and BB-8, though we also stop in to see Ahsoka (Ashley Eckstein) kicking butt, Leia doing spycraft, and Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) being her usual chaotic good rogue. All the actors from the movies and TV series voice their characters, except Leia (RIP Carrie Fisher), who is voiced by Shelby Young.

Jumanji Welcome To The Jungle movie trailer: The Rock stars in action-packed teaser WATCH https://briefnews.eu/jumanji-welcome-to-the-jungle-movie-trailer-the-rock-stars-in-action-packed-teaser-watch/ https://briefnews.eu/jumanji-welcome-to-the-jungle-movie-trailer-the-rock-stars-in-action-packed-teaser-watch/#respond Thu, 29 Jun 2017 08:52:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/jumanji-welcome-to-the-jungle-movie-trailer-the-rock-stars-in-action-packed-teaser-watch/

Back in 1995 the late Robin Williams thrilled audiences as a man who had been stuck in a magic boardgames for 26 years.

Now a spiritual sequel called Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle is on the way, but this time set inside the game.

Last night a teaser for the first trailer was released showing some action-heavy shots including one angry looking CGI hippo.

The full trailer is due to be released later today, so make sure to check back her later.

Instead of a board game the new Jumanji movie left the board game plot behind, instead introducing an N64 video game version.

The plot sees four teenagers find an old console when clearing out their school’s basement in detention.

When they start the game they are asked to choose their characters, which they then embody in the game.

Amusingly this sees a geek turn into The Rock and a popular girl end up as Jack Black.

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

TV Bits: Jordan Peele’s Bad Robot Show, an Action-Packed ‘Preacher’ Trailer, and More https://briefnews.eu/tv-bits-jordan-peeles-bad-robot-show-an-action-packed-preacher-trailer-and-more/ https://briefnews.eu/tv-bits-jordan-peeles-bad-robot-show-an-action-packed-preacher-trailer-and-more/#respond Thu, 18 May 2017 01:50:12 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tv-bits-jordan-peeles-bad-robot-show-an-action-packed-preacher-trailer-and-more/ Jordan Peele header

In this edition of TV Bits:

  • Get Out director Jordan Peele is making an HBO show with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions
  • AMC’s Preacher gets an explosive new season 2 trailer
  • The Young Pope gets a second season and a new name
  • ABC heads under the sea for The Little Mermaid Live!
  • And more!

Jordan Peele pic

Jordan Peele is making all the right moves these days. Following the conclusion of Key & Peele, he jumped behind the camera for Get Out, his directorial debut that turned out to be a massive success. He turned down the Akira remake in favor of creating more original content, and now he’s teaming up with Bad Robot Productions to executive produce an HBO drama called Lovecraft Country.

THR says it’s based on Matt Ruff’s 2016 novel of the same name, and calls it “an anthological horror series that reclaims genre storytelling from the African-American perspective.” Sounds like it’s right in Peele’s socially conscious wheelhouse, and I can’t wait to check it out. Underground’s Misha Green will serve as the showrunner.

Preacher fans should be thrilled with this new trailer, which leans heavily on action after a relatively slow first season full of set-up. The idea that season 2 will be a road trip season with The Saint of Killers hunting Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy is much more in line with what I hoped the show would be from the start, and aside from some dodgy CG work in the car scenes, this trailer looks pretty great to me.

Jude Law in The Young Pope

I bailed on HBO’s The Young Pope after two episodes, but it looks like creator Paolo Sorrentino is doubling down on the idea of some hot pope action. THR says HBO has ordered The New Pope, a new limited series created and directed by the Italian filmmaker. There’s no word yet if The Young Pope himself, Jude Law, will return or not, and since details are sketchy at the moment, I’m not even sure when it takes place. The outlet calls it a “follow-up series,” but does that mean it’s a sequel, or just the next thing Sorrentino is making for television? I imagine we’ll find out more soon.

Sofia Coppola Leaves the Little Mermaid

TVLine reports that ABC is planning The Wonderful World of Disney: The Little Mermaid Live!, a “live-action/animation hybrid television experience.” What the hell that actually means, we aren’t sure yet; the network says the show will use cutting-edge technology to somehow “intertwine” the animated movie with live musical performances. Could this be the next step in live TV events, or just another cheesy gimmick? We’ll find out on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

If you missed it, be sure to check out this live performance of the music from a concert at the Hollywood Bowl last year.

Margaret Cho Ridley Scott

TNT is getting into business with Margaret Cho and Ridley Scott (separately…though this sentence makes me want to see a joint effort from them). They’ve ordered a pilot for Highland from Cho and Lost writer Liz Sarnoff that’s based on Cho personal history with drug abuse, and they’re working with Scott on giving him a whole night of original sci-fi programming. Should be interesting to see if anything memorable comes from that.

Now You See Me 2 Trailer

If you missed out on the FXX comedy Man Seeking Woman, I’d highly recommend going back and checking it out. Simon Rich, the creator of that series, is heading to TBS with a new anthology comedy called Miracle Workers that’s based on his book What in God’s Name. Get this: Daniel Radcliffe and Owen Wilson are starring in the seven-episode first season, which sees Radcliffe playing a low-level angel responsible for handling humanity’s prayers and Wilson playing a God who’d much rather focus on his own hobbies. This sounds…kind of incredible? I’m definitely intrigued.

Roseanne is definitely coming back to ABC, and for those who were wondering if John Goodman’s character Dan is returning, the answer is yes. Deadline says that Roseanne Barr figured out a way to circumvent the revelation in the series finale that Dan had died of a heart attack by having him return after faking his own death. I’m not sure how hardcore fans will feel about that development, but as someone who never watched the show, I have to assume that anything that brings John Goodman back into the fold is a major plus.
