Outlander season 6: Jenny Murray’s absence explained after Lallybroch return https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-6-jenny-murrays-absence-explained-after-lallybroch-return/ https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-6-jenny-murrays-absence-explained-after-lallybroch-return/#respond Sat, 27 Feb 2021 02:14:39 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-6-jenny-murrays-absence-explained-after-lallybroch-return/

Speaking about whether there would be a time jump between seasons five and six, Matthew explained he isn’t planning to change the storyline, however, they do run into occasions when additional cast members are unavailable.

“I’m not looking to change the story. We just run into challenges,” he remarked.

“We can’t get an actor or we can’t get a place. It’s very difficult to make it all work together sometimes.

“Diana can say, Oh, I need Lord John in this scene? Here he is. And we don’t necessarily have that access.”

Better late than never…?

At the close of the series’ penultimate hour, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. welcomed back Leopold Fitz, who save for a smattering of new flashbacks had been conspicuously missing throughout the final season.

On-screen, original cast member Iain De Caestecker’s absence had been explained by the fact that Fitz needed to hide from and plot against the all-knowing Chronicoms. Lady love Jemma Simmons (played by Elizabeth Henstridge) in turn was implanted with a memory inhibitor, to keep her from remembering the details of this scheme as well as one other, wee-but-huge secret — that she and Fitz had had a daughter, now age 9, during the years they and Enoch spent building a time machine and simply living.

Explaining the decision to by and large keep Fitz off-screen until the season’s final hour, “Some choices aren’t made by us” but by actors, co-showrunner Jed Whedon told reporters earlier this week. “So we did what we could, and we tried to make it rewarding with the pieces [we were given]. Sometimes it’s 3D chess.”

“To be clear,” co-showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen added, “Iain is an exceptionally talented actor and one of our dearest friends. It was just it was time for him to go [and] explore new things.”

Surveying the storyline ramifications, the EPs said that in addition to bringing “Simmons and [grandson] Deke closer together,” Fitz’s mysterious, disquieting absence made the eventual payoff all the more powerful.

Agents of SHIELD Finale Daughter

To recap: Once Fitz resurfaced to help transport the team (and a battalion of Chronicom cruisers) back to the original timeline via the quantum realm, he helped a slightly amnesic Simmons remember all that she had forgotten. Corresponding flashbacks detailed their odyssey following (and also leading up to!) the events of the Season 6 finale, in which the team just barely fled the temple before a Chronicom laser blast leveled the place. Then, in some of the series’ final moments, we realized that FitzSimmons’ daughter, Alya, had been just out of frame in the flashbacks we had just seen.

“[T]o make the reward of him missing for so long pay off… the only way that we could think is a super-happy ending,” Whedon said. “And also, for him, he actually hadn’t missed anything. That was how we answered that in our minds, and on the show.”

SHIELD Pilot FitzSimmons

De Caestecker and Henstridge in ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ pilot

What did De Caestecker and Henstridge themselves think about FitzSimmons getting the happiest of ending that the beleaguered couple so richly deserved?

“It’s a pretty fitting end,” De Caestecker told press last week. “There’s a connection with two of our showrunners, Mo and Jed, and they have a young daughter [who] was a certain type of miracle, so it’s a very fitting thing. But also for the evolution of those characters, it’s a fitting end but a beginning, of another life, as well.”

“It was a lovely ending for them, and it helped to explain why Fitz was away,” Henstridge in turn added. “It had to be something bigger than them, and for them that would be their daughter.”

Reflecting on seven seasons of flirtation, angst, near-deaths and separations, Henstridge observed, “It was so lovely to play characters that at the start were doing everything they could not to think of each other romantically, to ending with them having this daughter that they both laid their lives on the line for. As an actor, that’s just amazing.”

Piers Morgan confirms ITV return amid Good Morning Britain absence: ‘Got a new series’ https://briefnews.eu/piers-morgan-confirms-itv-return-amid-good-morning-britain-absence-got-a-new-series/ https://briefnews.eu/piers-morgan-confirms-itv-return-amid-good-morning-britain-absence-got-a-new-series/#respond Mon, 03 Aug 2020 09:57:32 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/piers-morgan-confirms-itv-return-amid-good-morning-britain-absence-got-a-new-series/

Alongside Susanna Reid, Piers has become a mainstay on breakfast time TV over the past few years on Good Morning Britain. However, in recent weeks, the likes of Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway among others have been stepping in while he and Susanna take a break from hosting duties. And while some fans have been pleading for his GMB return, the presenter will be back for sure on his series Life Stories.

Speaking on the ITV breakfast show last month, Kate admitted Piers’ absence from GMB could be put off for longer than anticipated.

Alongside Ben, the pair joked Piers could be forced to quarantine when he returns from his holidays in France.

Luckily, it appears this won’t be the case as quarantine rules haven’t been implemented on travellers from the nation like they have with the likes of Spain, for example.

And while a GMB return date hasn’t been announced by Piers, he has now opened up on plans for his own ITV series.

Taking to Twitter over the weekend, Piers engaged in a conversation with Pointless star Richard Osman about TV productions going ahead while adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.

Richard posed to his 949k followers: “Would love your opinion on this. Lots of big TV shows still not in studio, because they need atmosphere of big studio audience.

“Would you object to noise of small audience being boosted in the edit, if you were made aware of it? Currently not allowed to do that. Would you mind?”

Piers then caught the attention of his 7.6million followers with his own plans.

Retweeting Richard’s post, Piers revealed: “I’ve got a new series of Life Stories coming up & I think we should do it…

“As sport has shown, the entertainment value is massively increased by faking crowd noise, and ultimately we’re in the entertainment business.”

Keeping the conversation of Piers’ return going, Richard replied: “Such a tricky one isn’t it?

“I think if everybody is made aware, and it is based on genuine reactions, then it’s worth trying. Just to get TV moving again.”

Fuller House Addresses Aunt Becky’s Absence in the Series’ Final Episodes https://briefnews.eu/fuller-house-addresses-aunt-beckys-absence-in-the-series-final-episodes/ https://briefnews.eu/fuller-house-addresses-aunt-beckys-absence-in-the-series-final-episodes/#respond Tue, 02 Jun 2020 21:45:53 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/fuller-house-addresses-aunt-beckys-absence-in-the-series-final-episodes/

Warning: This post contains mild spoilers from the final episodes of Fuller House.

Fuller House‘s final nine episodes hit Netflix on Tuesday, and while plenty of familiar faces do pop in for one last visit, there’s still a key family member missing from the action. And we’re not talking about Michelle.

As anticipated, Lori Loughlin — who has been in and out of court for more than a year, thanks to her involvement in the College Admissions Scandal — does not appear in the family comedy’s final run. Aunt Becky’s absence is noted in the season’s 15th episode when Jesse (John Stamos) shows up at the Fuller household, furious that one of his daughter’s classmates apparently bit her at school.

“Becky is in Nebraska helping out with her mother,” Jesse says when asked why his wife isn’t with him. “I don’t want to bother her with a tiny little thing like that.”

This marks the last time Becky is mentioned on Fuller House. She also doesn’t return for DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy’s triple wedding in the series finale, but considering how chaotic that day turns out to be, we’re not surprised that her absence goes completely unnoticed. Loughlin last appeared in the ninth episode of Season 4, titled “Perfect Sons.”

Of course, this isn’t the only acting opportunity Loughlin lost out on as a result of her criminal actions. She was also fired from Hallmark Channel‘s When Calls the Heart, along with all of the network’s future movie projects.

Have you been bingeing Fuller House‘s final episodes? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.

BBC News: Dan Walker calls out Boris Johnson for ‘embarrassing’ TV debate absence https://briefnews.eu/bbc-news-dan-walker-calls-out-boris-johnson-for-embarrassing-tv-debate-absence/ https://briefnews.eu/bbc-news-dan-walker-calls-out-boris-johnson-for-embarrassing-tv-debate-absence/#respond Mon, 17 Jun 2019 21:15:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bbc-news-dan-walker-calls-out-boris-johnson-for-embarrassing-tv-debate-absence/

BBC Breakfast was presented by Dan Walker and Louise Minchin today and the show was discussing the hot topic of Boris Johnson MP being absent from last nights Conservative leadership race debate which was aired on television screens across the nation.

Joining Walker on a live video link this morning was the Brexit minister James Cleverly, a supporter of Johnson and it wasn’t long before Walker suggested the real reason for the current favourite not making an appearance alongside the other leadership candidates was because he was too “embarrassed” by his record.

“One of the other questions, which I would love to ask Boris Johnson and I’m sure many interviewers would like to do it if he came forward as an interviewee, is to look at his record,” Walker began explaining.

“And you see one of the reasons Mr Cleverly, I’m sure you’re aware of this, people think that he’s not taking part in these interviews and these debates because he’s worried about the awkward questions and he’s worried about embarrassing himself when you ask about his record about being sacked not once, but twice for lying.

“Once as a journalist for making up a quote and once as a Tory spokesman after misleading his party leader Michael Howard about an extra marital affair.

“This – and politics is very much about trust and scrutiny, isn’t it – how can we trust somebody who we aren’t able to scrutinise and ask about those things that he’s done in the past, this man who wants to be Prime Minister!”

Responding to these claims, Cleverly said: “I have absolutely no doubt that when it comes to the second stage of this competition, Boris will spend a lot of time talking about his record.

“Because his record as Mayor of London saw the homicide rate in London cut by half, trains delays or tube delays -“ However, he was cut off by Walker counter arguing; “But his record also saw £50million spent on a bridge that was never built?”

“Hang on,” Cleverly stated before continuing: “Tube delays cut by a third, saw the London economy recover under his watch from a historic downturn, successful delivery of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. His record as Mayor is one that we collectively as Conservatives in London at the time, can be incredibly proud of.

“I have no doubt at all, he will be talking an awful lot about his record in executive office, actually running stuff.” He concluded.

As for why Johnson was a no-show last night and this morning for follow-up interviews, Cleverly defended him and said: “I imagine he is doing what he has successfully been doing up until this point; gaining support of Members of Parliament because those are the voters in the first stage of selection!

“Then what he’s also been doing, is speaking to the Conservative members, because they are the next voters in this election.”

As for how the TV debate played out last night, five out of the six contenders appeared on Channel 4, Michael Gove, Jeremy Hunt, Sajid Javid, Dominic Raab and Rory Stewart answered questions on issues such as Brexit and public policy in front of a studio audience.

The second ballot will take place tomorrow and will see Conservative MPs vote for their favourite candidates. Each one needs at least 33 votes to proceed to the next round.

diIf all candidates receive at least 33 votes, the person will the fewest will be eliminated.

Prime Minister Theresa May stepped down as leader of the Tory party back in May.

BBC Breakfast airs everyday at 6am on BBC One.

ITV Good Morning Britain: ‘Close to tears’ Martin Lewis explains his prolonged absence https://briefnews.eu/itv-good-morning-britain-close-to-tears-martin-lewis-explains-his-prolonged-absence/ https://briefnews.eu/itv-good-morning-britain-close-to-tears-martin-lewis-explains-his-prolonged-absence/#respond Fri, 08 Feb 2019 12:09:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/itv-good-morning-britain-close-to-tears-martin-lewis-explains-his-prolonged-absence/

Money expert Martin Lewis, 46, is a regular feature on ITV shows such as This Morning and Good Morning Britain.

However, the presenter has been absent for quite a few days, and fans were starting to worry about him.

Lewis was scheduled to appear on Good Morning Britain this week, yet he was forced to cancel.

He later revealed to his fans on Twitter that he was not well enough to appear on TV after suffering with a “vicious” throat ulcer.

The money expert took to Twitter to tell his fans that he wasn’t very likely to return to TV until he was able to speak.

Martin wrote: “Throatgate day 4. Thanks for all the well wishes. I wanted to give you an honest update as so many of you have been asking and been so kind.

“Sadly, I’m no better – you’ll have seen I couldn’t do Good Morning Britain today – live TV is impossible.

“Last night I saw a specialist who confirmed I’ve a large, vicious ulcer in my throat (I won’t post a picture of it) – not a cold/flu.

“Unfortunately eating and speaking are truly agonising, causing the left of my face and neck to go into spasm – leaving me close to (or sometimes in) tears.

“There is no treatment but to wait, though I’m finding that tough as there’s no sign of improvement and sleeping is hard.”

Martin went on to tell his followers that he was going to try to film some of his links for Monday’s show in advance after having been given a local anaesthetic by his doctor to ease the pain temporarily.

“I’m going to go and try and film the links for my Monday show today.

“I’ve been given a special local anaesthetic to get me through it (I’ve been told doing it won’t make things worse),” he wrote.

“The team are very considerate – I won’t be able to do retakes – and will have to rest 20 minutes before each take.

“I must admit to literally shaking with nerves about leaving the house to do it, but I’m doing it as I want to, as sitting in the house in pain has made me rather low.”

He later informed his fans that he had managed to film the links and that they’ll be shown on Monday’s programme.

“Yesss! Just back from filming. I managed to make it through – not that sparky (you’ll see on Monday) but enough,” he added.

“The anaesthetic spray worked wonders. Now need to steel myself for stopping the spray and the pain coming back. Feel much better again having been productive tho.”

Fans will be hoping that Lewis gets well soon as it does sound like the TV presenter is struggling at the moment.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.

Jacobs announces Kennedy, Wozniak will substitute in Fry's absence https://briefnews.eu/jacobs-announces-kennedy-wozniak-will-substitute-in-frys-absence/ https://briefnews.eu/jacobs-announces-kennedy-wozniak-will-substitute-in-frys-absence/#respond Tue, 27 Nov 2018 12:11:32 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/jacobs-announces-kennedy-wozniak-will-substitute-in-frys-absence/

Team Brad Jacobs will turn to a couple of curling veterans to fill the vacancy created by Ryan Fry's decision to take an indefinite leave after his disqualification from the Red Deer Curling Classic.

Two-time Olympian Marc Kennedy will play as a substitute at the Dec. 5-9 Canada Cup in Estevan, Sask., while Matt Wozniak will fill in at the Dec. 11-16 National in Conception Bay South, N.L., the team said Monday in a statement.

"It's mixed emotions," Kennedy said Monday from Toronto before boarding a flight to Edmonton. "I'm excited to get back out there, to test out my hip and to have a chance to play with a pretty incredible team. I'm looking forward to that. I know they've been through a tough couple weeks here.

"Hopefully I can come in and add a positive spark and help get them through this difficult time that Team Jacobs is going through."

Fry announced last week that he would be taking a break from the Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.-based team to focus on his "growth and self-improvement." His decision came a few days after he was ejected from a World Curling Tour event for what organizers called unsportsmanlike behaviour resulting from excessive drinking.

'They will fill Ryan's shoes very well'

Fry, who was playing as a substitute in Red Deer, was kicked out of the competition with teammates Jamie Koe, Chris Schille and DJ Kidby. All four players later issued statements to apologize for their actions.

Organizers said Fry broke three brooms and that the team used foul language and was disruptive to other players on the ice. The WCT fined Fry $ 1,000 and said that his behaviour was the reason for the team's disqualification.

"We are fortunate to have such great players step up and help us out in this time of need while Ryan takes the time he needs to manage his well-being," Jacobs said in an email. "It says a lot that two great players in Marc and Matt are willing to support us. We know they will fill Ryan's shoes very well and give us a great opportunity to compete as we try to win the Canada Cup and the National.

"We are excited to be only one week away from competing. Last week was a whirlwind for our team and quite stressful but thankfully it is behind us now. Our focus has now shifted to doing everything possible to be prepared for the Canada Cup. It's crucial we maintain a healthy mindset and are well rested going into the next few weeks of competition."

Fry, 40, won Olympic gold at the 2014 Sochi Games with the Jacobs team. They also won the Tim Hortons Brier in 2013.

Kennedy, 36, won Olympic gold at the 2010 Vancouver Games with skip Kevin Martin. He returned to the Pyeongchang Games this year with skip Kevin Koe but did not reach the podium.

Kennedy returning

Wozniak, 35, was a longtime second on a Winnipeg team skipped by Mike McEwen. That rink disbanded after last season with McEwen forming a new team with skip Reid Carruthers.

Wozniak will play his familiar position with Team Jacobs with E.J. Harnden moving to third, the team said in a post on Twitter.

Kennedy announced last March that he would be taking a break from competitive curling to recharge and rest a nagging hip injury. He took on a consulting position with Curling Canada and has been practising through the autumn.

He also teamed with Rachel Homan last month to win a mixed doubles event in Sherwood Park, Alta.

"I think once I get out there and start playing a couple ends, I feel it will all come back pretty quickly," Kennedy said. "Hopefully I can make as many shots as the team needs me to."

The Canada Cup men's and women's winners will earn spots in the 2021 Road to the Roar Pre-Trials. They will also qualify for a Curling World Cup event next season.

Fry has represented Northern Ontario on five occasions at the Brier. He also won four provincial titles (2009-12) with skip Brad Gushue out of Newfoundland and Labrador and won a Manitoba crown in 2007 with skip Jeff Stoughton.

Team Jacobs, which holds the No. 5 position in the men's world rankings, won a Grand Slam title earlier this month in Thunder Bay, Ont.

Deadwood Star Talks 'Gut-Wrenching' Revival Movie, Time Jump and the Handling of [Spoiler]'s Absence https://briefnews.eu/deadwood-star-talks-gut-wrenching-revival-movie-time-jump-and-the-handling-of-spoilers-absence/ https://briefnews.eu/deadwood-star-talks-gut-wrenching-revival-movie-time-jump-and-the-handling-of-spoilers-absence/#respond Wed, 22 Aug 2018 15:38:56 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/deadwood-star-talks-gut-wrenching-revival-movie-time-jump-and-the-handling-of-spoilers-absence/

“The Maestro has topped himself,” Deadwood vet W. Earl Brown says of series creator David Milch’s final script for the long-awaited, recently greenlit HBO revival movie.

Over the course of the two-hour script, “my emotions ricocheted in every [f–king] direction,” Brown — who plays Dan Dority, Al Swearengen’s right-hand man — said across a series of tweets on Wednesday. “Exhilaration to melancholy; hoots of joy to screams of despair.”

“Milch’s words are like a scrumptious meal,” he continued, “the complexity of its flavors is something to savor.”

Brown said that Milch’s final draft is akin to a previous version he read a year-and-a-half ago, but “the complexities of the relationships, the emotional peaks and depths, are all sharpened to a razor fine edge.

“It’s gut wrenching,” he added.

Fielding a few questions from fans who follow his Twitter feed, Brown said that the movie is set 10 years after the events of Season 3, which wrapped in 2006. Production is set to start on Oct. 5, with an eye on a spring 2019 premiere.

As for the absence of series vet Powers Boothe, who played saloon owner/Swearengen rival Cy Tolliver and passed away in May 2017, “I can’t tell you” how it is handled, Brown said. “But I will say, his absence is not ignored.” He then noted, “There is no recasting of any roles” for the long-gestating reunion project.
