The first ever episode of Outlander saw Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe) touch the stones at Craigh Na Dun and travel back to the 18th Century where she met her second husband, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). She eventually returned to her own time at the end of season two to escape the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden. However, after 20 years apart and learning Jamie was still alive after the fight, Claire returned to 18th Century Scotland to reunite with the love of her life.

Claire has explained how she must have a precious stone to travel in time and can hear a buzzing noise when she approaches the stones.

Her daughter with Jamie, Brianna (Sophie Skelton) has the same ability and season four saw Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) learn he too could hear the buzzing sound.

Most recently, season five ended with Brianna and Roger learning their son Jemmy could hear the buzzing and they decided to return to their own time.

However, in a surprise twist for many fans of the Outlander novels by Diana Gabaldon, the family of three ended up back in 18th Century North Carolina.

“They trimmed off the last bit of dialogue, and people probably miss that, but they’ll enjoy the scene, regardless.

“And then there’s the window sill scene, of course, which I had a lot of fun with.

“That comes before the microscope scene, for obvious reasons.”

After a night of passion, Claire takes Jamie’s sperm and places it under her microscope to show him his “seed”.

Jamie was stunned by the revelation as his wife watched on in amusement.

The episode also saw Claire introduce a number of other items from her own time as she made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for Brianna.

It’s safe to say Jamie wasn’t too impressed leaving fans even more desperate to see him travel to the future.

One day after his controversial, Oscars-centric interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Kevin Hart is going on the defensive.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, the embattled comedian addressed the backlash that has stemmed from his Q&A with DeGeneres, in which DeGeneres revealed that she personally contacted the Academy and recommended that Hart be reinstated as Oscars host.

“When did we get to the point where we forgot that we all learn, then we all have the ability to grow and with that growth comes a wealth of knowledge,” Hart wrote. “You can’t change without a [sic] understanding of what GROWTH means… Please grasp this and use it in 2019.”

During Hart’s interview on Ellen Friday, DeGeneres had acknowledged the homophobic Twitter jokes that led Hart to step down from hosting the Oscars in December, after he had refused to apologize for the resurfaced posts. But DeGeneres relegated Hart’s critics to the “haters” category, telling him, “That’s a small group of people being very loud. We’re a huge group of people who love you and want to see you host the Oscars.”

Hart told DeGeneres that he felt “trolls” were responsible for the “attack on [his] character” that led him to step back from the hosting gig, adding that he doesn’t have a “homophobic bone in [his] body.”

Both Hart and DeGeneres quickly became targets of criticism after the interview aired: Hart’s apology was viewed by many as insincere, while others were disappointed in DeGeneres, a member of the LGBT community, for using her platform to support Hart.

CNN journalist Don Lemon delivered an emotional message to Hart on Friday’s CNN Tonight broadcast, saying, “This is the time to hear other people out, to understand why they might have been offended. And I don’t see any meaningful outreach to the LGBT community.”

The Central Bank of Russia proposed the rationing measures in response to fresh anti-Russia sanctions from the US and Europe that could allow foreign lenders to block access to the funds for its units based in Russia, two sources close to the issue told Bloomberg. The targeted lenders say they will have to reduce their loan services in Russia, according to unnamed people quoted by the agency.

If the new rules enter force, most of the local units run by foreign banks will inevitably be in violation of the mandated capital ratios. Some of the lenders, including Nordea Bank and Commerzbank, say the measure will create “unequal” conditions for local banks and foreign-owned subsidiaries.

Ahead of the US mid-term elections in November, the US Congress is actively discussing potential punitive measures against Russia over its alleged meddling in US elections. Among the penalties is a ban on using US dollars for some of Russia’s biggest banks. In August, local banking bonds brought investors a loss of 5.1 percent in dollar terms, the worst of any sector domestically, according to a Bloomberg Barclays index.

According to the Central Bank of Russia, the final version of the rule is still being discussed. The regulator didn’t elaborate on the goal of the restrictions or on the fate of the proposal.

Google is cleaning up its Google Pay mobile payments app this week. Google Pay (which was formerly Android Pay, which was formerly Google Wallet) is getting rolled up into a single app, and it’s getting boarding pass support.

First, you’ll finally be able to pay for things with NFC and send money to contacts through a single app. For a while now, Google’s mobile payments solutions have inexplicably been split across two apps. With the latest branding, there was a “Google Pay” app for NFC payments and a second “Google Pay Send” app for P2P money transfers. With the new update, Google says you’ll now be able to request and send money right from the main Google Pay app, and you’ll even be able to split the bill from a recent NFC purchase. For now this is limited to the US.

The second upgrade coming to Google Pay is the launch of boarding pass support, which has been a feature of Apple Wallet forever. Google announced boarding pass support at Google I/O 2018, and the feature has been in public testing for a few months, but now it appears to be entering wider availability. Google’s blog post says you’ll be able to save passes from Ticketmaster and Southwest with “more places soon, including Eventbrite, Singapore Airlines, and Vueling.” For now that appears to be the entire list.

Plants, like all living things, need nitrogen to build amino acids and other essential biomolecules. Although nitrogen is the most abundant element in air, the molecular form of nitrogen found there is largely unreactive. To become useful to plants, that nitrogen must first be “fixed,” or busted out of its molecular form and linked with hydrogen to make ammonia. The plants can then get at it by catalyzing reactions with ammonia.

But plants can’t fix nitrogen. Bacteria can.

Some legumes and a few other plants have a symbiotic relationship with certain bacterial species. The plants build specialized structures on their roots called nodules to house and feed the bacteria, which in turn fix nitrogen for the plants and assure them a steady supply of ammonia. Only 10 families of plants have the ability to do this, and even within these families, most genera opt out. Ever since the symbiosis was discovered in 1888, plant geneticists have wondered: why? If you could ensure a steady supply of nitrogen for use, why wouldn’t you?

The governor of Arizona on Monday suspended Uber’s ability to test self-driving cars on public roads in the state following a fatal crash last week that killed a 49-year-old pedestrian. The decision to block Uber Technologies Inc’s is a blow to the ride-hailing company, which sees its future success reliant on driverless vehicles, and trails competitors such as Alphabet Inc’s Waymo in developing the technology.

Arizona had been a key hub for Uber, with about half of the company’s 200 self-driving cars and a staff of hundreds.

In a letter sent to Uber Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi and shared with the media, Governor Doug Ducey said he found a video released by police of the crash “disturbing and alarming, and it raises many questions about the ability of Uber to continue testing in Arizona.”

Police and safety regulators are investigating the March 18 fatality in which a woman crossing a four-lane road at night was struck and killed by an Uber self-driving SUV. The incident has focused new attention on the lack of clear safety standards for such vehicles.

Ducey called the crash “an unquestionable failure.”

“In the best interests of the people of my state, I have directed the Arizona Department of Transportation to suspend Uber’s ability to test and operate autonomous vehicles on Arizona’s public roadways,” Ducey said.

The letter strikes a dramatically different tone from late 2016, when Ducey invited Uber to his state with celebration, saying “Arizona welcomes Uber self-driving cars with open arms and wide open roads.” At the time, a banner was hung on a building in Phoenix welcoming Uber.

Uber moved its driverless cars to Arizona from San Francisco after California regulators shut down the self-driving fleet for not having the proper permits.

Uber, which had already pulled its self-driving cars off the road after the accident, said in a statement on Monday that it will “keep a dialogue open with the Governor’s office to address any concerns they have.”
