The ITV show sees fans hope to take on the Spin To Win wheel every day as one lucky viewer receives at least £500 plus the opportunity to win the infamous goodie bag, just by calling into the show. As ever with live TV, things don’t always go to plan and on today’s This Morning, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield grew frustrated after multiple viewers failed to give the correct passphrase, or pick up the phone at all. 

Fans can win up to £3,000 on the game, which is free to enter, with many calling in to give them a shot at winning the cash prize. 

However, the rules of the game mean when the hosts call a contestant, they must answer with the correct phrase, which is given on the This Morning app. 

Today’s game saw Holly and Phil nearly give up altogether after they called six members of the public, with none of them giving them the answer they needed. 

As they dialled through the numbers, it became increasingly clear the pair might have to cut off the segment, with Phil noting: “This might be our first abandonment.”

Holly jokingly asked whether the nation was still in lockdown due to the lack of response as the segment became painful viewing.

Phil remarked: “I’m losing the will to live slowly on the television,” as the duo couldn’t understand why nobody had managed to answer correctly.

“This is great telly this, the best telly ever,” added the host, with Holly asking: “Should I just practice spinning the wheel for a while?”

After call number six was unsuccessful, the pair wondered whether they should scrap today’s competition, with Phil questioning: “Should we just leave it?”

 

“We’re very over on time,” said the host but Holly stepped in, remarking: “Not sure that’s allowed.”

The contestant was asked: “Whose 60th birthday did we celebrate earlier on in the show?” with Reece correctly responding with “Bradley Walsh.”

This meant he also won the This Morning goodie bag, with Phil telling the player: “You’ve saved our bacon, it would’ve been the first one we’d abandoned. There’s no one left to dial, I don’t think!”

Reminding viewers of the rules ahead of tomorrow’s edition, Holly added: “Make sure you’re in and don’t say hello!”

Viewers were left baffled by the competition and called for it to end, with one writing on Twitter: “How are these people entering a TV comp where you have to pick up a phone and then they’re not ready for the ring? CRACKERS! Keep dancing Holly #ThisMorning.”

Another added: “#ThisMorning they need a new game. Spin to Win is a disaster.”

A third said: “It’s been six months since #ThisMorning brought out Spin to Win. You would have thought that people would have understood the f*****g rules by now!”

“#ThisMorning please stop the spin to win game. I feel like I’m hanging on the phone to a call centre #watchingpaintdryTV,” remarked another.

The NHL and NHL Players' Association have given up on the possibility of staging the next World Cup of Hockey in September 2020 but will continue collective bargaining talks.

In separate statements released Wednesday, the league and NHLPA announced that there's not enough time to put together a World Cup in roughly 20 months. The sides met earlier in the day in Toronto to discuss the World Cup as part of collective bargaining talks after holding an informal meeting in Las Vegas on Jan. 10 that lasted more than two hours.

Not holding the World Cup in September 2020 is consequential because it was so closely linked to the potential of labour peace in hockey. But the NHL and NHLPA plan to meet again soon with the goal of avoiding a potential work stoppage. A lockout wiped out the 2004-05 season; another lasted more than three months in 2012-13.

The current collective bargaining agreement (CBA) runs until 2022, but either owners or players could choose this September to opt out and end it Sept. 15, 2020. Players' escrow payments and Olympic participation are significant issues that must be overcome to avoid either side re-opening the CBA.

The league's deputy commissioner, Bill Daly, told The Associated Press last week he believed there was a commitment by both sides to continue talking and "see if we can move forward on something that might work for a CBA extension."

"While the parties have now joined the concluded that it is no longer realistic to try to schedule a World Cup of Hockey for the fall of 2020, they plan to continue their dialogue with the hope of being able to schedule the next World Cup event as part of a broader agreement, which would include a long-term international event calendar," the NHL said in a statement.

The 2016 World Cup of Hockey generated revenue that was split evenly among owners and players, and the goal is to keep that event going with another edition at a time later than September 2020.

"The players are focused on finding the proper time to schedule the World Cup of Hockey within the context of an overall international hockey calendar," the NHLPA said in a statement. "We look forward to continuing our discussions with the league."

An agreement has been struck between Liverpool and Barcelona for the £142million transfer of Coutinho after months of speculation.

Coutinho flew to Barcelona yesterday and it was expected that he would be showcased in front of the fans at the Nou Camp.

But according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have now decided not to parade Coutinho.

The report says a WhatsApp message was sent to media saying: “The player will not be in the stadium. Out of respect for the competition, his day will be on Monday and therefore everyone, focused on the Levante.”

Nevertheless, Coutinho is expected to undergo his medical at 7.30am on Monday at the Hospital of Barcelona.

And the Brazilian could be paraded in front of the media and fans at around 10am.

Coutinho’s departure means a replacement is needed and former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has called on the club to sign someone as soon as possible.

“I am not surprised but disappointed he [Coutinho] is leaving because he is a fantastic player to watch,” Aldridge told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Sportsweek. 

“£140million is a lot of money and Liverpool have to spend it wisely.

“They have spent £75million of it wisely on Virgil van Dijk – a player we have needed for some time in a leader at the back – but he [Coutinho] needs replacing and we have got to do it ASAP.”

The UK took part in the Iraq War, with Tony Blair making the decision to send British troops because he claimed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein had a secret stockpile of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).

Around half a million people were killed during the invasion and occupation between 2003 and 2011, it has been estimated. Of those, 179 were British troops.

The Iraq Inquiry report later found the war was launched on the basis of “flawed” intelligence at a time when Saddam Hussein presented “no imminent threat.”

The Chilcot report was published in July 2016 and it was hoped a civil case could be brought against Blair.

Now the families have announced they will drop the fight because of flaws in the English legal system that do not allow for legal prosecution. Two of the main legal reasons were outlined in their own report.

Firstly, a study of case law showed English courts cannot adjudicate upon the use of prerogative powers concerning foreign policy and the deployment of military forces. Secondly, analysis of the findings carried out by IWFC showed the Inquiry found the legality of a war cannot be adjudicated on by English courts.

“Of course, we are deeply disappointed that, as the law stands, those responsible for the wrongdoing that led to an unlawful war and the deaths of our loved ones will not face a tribunal,” the report from the group states.

“But we now know we have done all that we can in their memories. Our legal team’s conclusion is that all legal avenues are closed off to the British people and that responsibility for any sanctions lies with parliament and parliament alone.

“The current state of English law is that, even if state officials were recklessly indifferent as to whether they were acting in violation of their constitutional duties, and regardless of their consequences, such breaches are not actionable in a court of law, and can only be punished by Parliament.”

The Chilcot report was damning. It established that the “dirty dossier” of evidence on WMDs in Iraq was known to be lacking in hard intelligence. Now, the legal assessment by IWFC has found the report contains “sufficient evidence” that constitutional conventions were breached during the decision to invade Iraq.

The campaign believes a court could reasonably find there was “reckless indifference to the legality of their actions by deliberately and consciously closing their minds to that risk.”

One such broken rule, it said, was Blair’s choice to keep the cabinet, and parliament, insufficiently informed.

The group has insisted the Iraq war was illegal for a number of reasons after Sir John Chilcot found the decision to invade was based on “a certainty which was not proven.” However, he did not make a judgement on whether it was legal.

The group has fought for Blair to stand trial over a note he set to US President George Bush in 2002, months before the invasion. Blair vowed to stand alongside the US – without consulting his cabinet.

The group found throughout the campaign in Iraq the ex-prime minister “spearheaded the representation of the threat of WMD in a more certain light than the actual intelligence could justify.”

Then-foreign secretary Jack Straw was also criticized in the report over claims legal advisers warned him the war may not be legal.

Sir John Scarlett, Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee, and Sir Richard Dearlove, Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service, also came under fire for allowing intelligence to be used when they were aware of its limitations.

The IWFC concluded there are numerous reasons to bring those involved in the Iraq war before a judge, however, they acknowledged this cannot be done in England.

The report said: “Parliament is the exclusive body with power to sanction them or provide redress. Given the public speculation on the possibility of litigation that followed the publication of the Inquiry report, we consider it entirely reasonable of the proposed Claimants to consider definitive legal advice to be necessary.

“It is our clear and considered advice, however, that the Inquiry report does not ground any cause of action that can be brought in the English courts.”

The EU’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and her Jordanian counterpart Aymane Safadi said on Friday that they would not abandon the two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “We definitely don’t give up,” AFP quoted Mogherini as saying.
