China’s cyber regulators are tightening their grip on the country’s infamously censored internet even more, and it includes keeping a closer eye on games and apps. According to Reuters, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has deleted 7,873 mobile apps it deems malicious. Some of those applications reportedly overcharged users, while others stole their information.

One of the apps affected by the purge was Fruit Ninja, though it’s not entirely clear if CAC axed the original game or one of its many copycats. That deleted Fruit Ninja apparently tricked people into signing up for paid services. There was also at least a couple of games with intentionally provocative names — Bathroom Goddess and Naughty Housemaid — deleted for information theft, spamming and forced downloads.

In addition to the app purge, the CAC said in a statement that it has removed over 7 million pieces of information online. It also criticized a Tencent news app for posting “vulgar and low-brow information,” which exemplifies the internet company’s issues with the government. If you’ll recall, China put its video game approvals on hold after establishing an ethics committee to oversee the industry. The first batch of titles approved after that almost-year-long freeze didn’t include anything from Tencent.

‘Devil May Cry 5’ fans in Japan get insane $8,000 bundle https://briefnews.eu/devil-may-cry-5-fans-in-japan-get-insane-8000-bundle/ https://briefnews.eu/devil-may-cry-5-fans-in-japan-get-insane-8000-bundle/#respond Mon, 22 Oct 2018 19:39:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/devil-may-cry-5-fans-in-japan-get-insane-8000-bundle/

If you plan on dressing up as Dante for Halloween, this is the jacket to get. Camcom has announced a new Devil May Cry 5 “Ultra Limited Edition” bundle via its E-Capcom website. The bundle includes a copy of the game — either for Xbox One or PS4 — interchangeable box art, and a life-sized leather replica of Dante’s jacket.

There are three options to choose from. The Jacket for character V is the cheapest, at 600,000 yen, or $ 5,317, with Nero’s jacket coming in at 750,000 yen, or $ 6,646, and finally with Dante’s jacket landing at a whopping 900,000 yen, or $ 7,975. All jackets have incredible attention to detail, with little nicks and signs of abrasion throughout. Nero’s jacket can also come with a damaged sleeve if you so desire. And if you’re not inclined to spend in the four-figure range, there’s also the “Classic Work Shirt” bundle which can be had for 11,852 yen, or $ 105.

This is not the first time Capcom has gone all out with a bundle. In 2012, for the release of Resident Evil 6, the publisher released a similar bundle featuring Leon Kennedy’s jacket. This bundle has not been announced for the US or international markets, but pre-orders are live. To place an order, you’ll have to follow the link on the website and email E-Capcom to confirm. Just don’t wear it outside of a video game convention (or Halloween), as it will never make you look cool.

Prince Louis christening: Harry buys nephew £8000 gift – after missing Charlotte's big day https://briefnews.eu/prince-louis-christening-harry-buys-nephew-8000-gift-after-missing-charlottes-big-day/ https://briefnews.eu/prince-louis-christening-harry-buys-nephew-8000-gift-after-missing-charlottes-big-day/#respond Tue, 10 Jul 2018 07:46:31 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/prince-louis-christening-harry-buys-nephew-8000-gift-after-missing-charlottes-big-day/

Prince Louis’ christening was held yesterday, Monday 9 July, at Chapel Royal, St. James’ Palace.

Prince Harry treated his new nephew, who was born on April 23 this year, to an expensive gift.

The brother of Prince William previously missed the christening of his niece, Princess Charlotte, 3, because he was abroad.

However, he seems to have made it up to the parents with this gesture.

He bought a special £8,000 book for the infant: a first edition copy of AA Milne’s Winnie-The-Pooh.

The choice of gift was said to have been inspired by Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, who tragically passed away at the age of 36.

“One of Harry’s happiest childhood memories was being read a bedtime story by his mother,” a friend of the royals told The Sun.

As testament to this, Harry is in the process of creating a library for all three of his brother’s children.

The royal insider added: “[Diana] loved all the old classics and Harry had the brilliant idea of starting a little library of first editions for Louis, Charlotte and George to enjoy as they get older.”

He chose the £8,000 gift after considering a much more expensive one first, it was reported.

“He originally wanted to get Lewis Carroll’s Through The Looking Glass, which was on sale for £24,000, but decided Winnie-The-Pooh would be more suitable for a first tome.

“Robinson Crusoe was William’s favourite book, but Harry loved all things A.A. Milne.”

So who are Prince Louis’ godparents? His godparents were announced this morning in a Kensington Palace statement.

The six godparents will include Mr Nicholas van Cutsem, who has a special link to the recent royal wedding of Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33.

His daughter, Florence van Cutsem, 3, was one of the flower girls who formed part of Meghan’s bridal party on the day.

His niece, Grace van Cutsem, 10, was also a bridesmaid at Kate and William’s wedding.

She was famously pictured clapping her hands over her ears as the couple kissed on the balcony, leading her to be dubbed the “grumpy bridesmaid”.

Nicholas has a particularly close relationship with the royal family, which goes back for generations.

His father, Hugh van Cutsem Sr., who passed away in 2013, was the best friend of Prince Charles, 69, at Cambridge.

What’s more, Hugh Sr. and his wife Emilie were neighbours to Queen Elizabeth, 92, at Sandringham.

Starbucks to close 8,000 US stores for racial sensitivity training https://briefnews.eu/starbucks-to-close-8000-us-stores-for-racial-sensitivity-training/ https://briefnews.eu/starbucks-to-close-8000-us-stores-for-racial-sensitivity-training/#respond Wed, 18 Apr 2018 09:47:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/starbucks-to-close-8000-us-stores-for-racial-sensitivity-training/

The world’s biggest coffee company Starbucks has announced that it will close all of its company-owned cafes in the United States for one afternoon on May 29 to educate employees about racial bias.

The announcement comes as the company tries to cool tensions following an incident in its Philadelphia store, in which two black men were arrested.

Starbucks said the training for its 175,000 employees will be developed with guidance from experts including former attorney general Eric Holder. It will also provide training materials for non-company workers at roughly 6,000 licensed Starbucks cafes that will remain open in locations such as grocery stores and airports.

“I’ve spent the last few days in Philadelphia with my leadership team listening to the community, learning what we did wrong and the steps we need to take to fix it,” Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson said in a statement.

“While this is not limited to Starbucks, we’re committed to being a part of the solution. Closing our stores for racial bias training is just one step in a journey that requires dedication from every level of our company and partnerships in our local communities,” he added.

Johnson has apologized for the “reprehensible” arrests of the two men in Philadelphia on Thursday and took personal responsibility for the incident. The two black men were arrested at Starbucks after the store’s manager called police because they were sitting in the store without ordering anything. The two men said they were waiting for a friend.

Video showing their arrest went viral, sparking protests and calls for boycotts.

Starbucks attorneys said Johnson and the men, who were released without charges, have “engaged in constructive discussions about this issue, as well as what is happening in communities across the country.”

The company added that the manager who had called the police is no longer working at that store.

Diesel scrappage is BACK: How you could save £8,000 on a brand NEW car THIS month https://briefnews.eu/diesel-scrappage-is-back-how-you-could-save-8000-on-a-brand-new-car-this-month/ https://briefnews.eu/diesel-scrappage-is-back-how-you-could-save-8000-on-a-brand-new-car-this-month/#respond Fri, 16 Mar 2018 18:18:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/diesel-scrappage-is-back-how-you-could-save-8000-on-a-brand-new-car-this-month/

Diesel car scrappage news latestGETTY

Diesel car owners are being offered generous scrappage deals…but are they really worth it?

DIESEL SCRAPPAGE is well and truly back with car makers across the UK offering seemingly huge discounts to attract buyers looking to trade in old diesel – and in some cases, petrol – cars.

But are these schemes as valuable as they first appear, or would you be better off selling your existing vehicle and using the proceeds towards a new car?

Nearly all of the major manufacturers are offering some trade-in discount for old cars, especially diesels, with savings of up to £8,000 available.

Audi, Peugeot, Mitsubishi and VW currently offer some of the best discount incentives in the UK, while Ford, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, Mazda and Dacia also have deals.

But you’ll need to do your homework. Many of the ‘best’ offers aren’t eligible in conjunction with any other promotions, some of which may be far more valuable. And be careful to check that manufacturers aren’t hiking their initial RRP prices to unrealistic levels – or restricting deals to the most expensive models – before applying apparently ‘generous’ discounts.

As our detailed guide below shows, some of the best offers currently on offer also expire within weeks, so you may need to act now to lock in some of the most competitive deals.

Audi

The “Audi scrappage incentive” is a LOT less dull than it sounds. The new scheme is openly pro-green and aims to boost sales of cleaner, more fuel-efficient cars. More importantly, it’s generous. Very, very generous. Only drivers of older diesel cars – first registered before 2010 – are eligible. But they can be any make provided you agree to upgrade to a new Audi that’s more efficient in fuel consumption and it has lower emissions. A huge range of cars are available to choose from, including the Q2, Q3, Q5, Q7, A1, A2, A3, TT, A4 A6 and A7. In other words, virtually every car Audi make. The biggest savings are, of course, only available on the more expensive cars in the range (this is Audi, after all). But £6,000 off the ever-brilliant A4? Not to be sniffed at.

Save up to £8,000:

Runs until: March 31

Citroën

The Citroën scrappage scheme is open to anyone with a vehicle more than seven years old, providing you’ve owned the vehicle for at least 90 days. Buyers can save between £1,600 and £6,400 on a new Citroën car and up to £7,000 on a commercial van. Almost the entire range is included, from the teeny Citroën C1 city car to the Citroën C3 Aircross Compact SUV or the largest Relay van. You can trade in any make or model, petrol or diesel, but your scrappage discount can’t be used with other, existing offers across the Citroën range.

Save up to: £7,000

Runs until: March 31 2018

Peugeot

All of the new scrappage schemes have their peculiar own rules and the Peugeot small-print will give you a headache, but could save you a fortune. It’s a great scheme, with very significant savings of up to £7,000 on vans and £6,000 on cars. But it’s only open to drivers with vehicles more than seven years old, providing it has been yours for at least 90 days. The company also promises to permanently take all vehicles exchanged under the scheme off the road and scrap them responsibly – so there’s no danger of the bloke down the pub pulling up in your old Focus. Almost all current Peugeot passenger cars, from the 108 city car to the award-winning 3008 SUV are included.

Save up to: £7,000

Runs until: March 31

More details: Peugeot scrappage

Ford

The Ford ‘New For Old’ Scrappage Scheme offers drivers between £2,000 and £4,950 when you trade in your old vehicle for a new Ford car – and between £2,000 and £7,000 off a new commercial vehicle. Ford also pledges to scrap your old vehicle responsibly. Well…you’d hope so! Old petrols and diesels registered before the 1st January 2011 that you’ve owned for more than 90 days are eligible. As ever with scrappage, the deal isn’t available in conjunction with any other offers – but a huge range of vehicles are available to choose from including the new Fiesta, B-Max, Focus, C-Max, Grand C-Max and Kuga. It’s even better for commercial drivers, with the maximum £7,000 discount available on the biggest Transits.

Save up to: £7,000

Up to £4,000 is available to use against the majority of new models (excluding Kodiaq, Karoq, SE Technology and Citigo S trims), when ordered by March 31. Retailers are closing thousands of stores following years of declines in sales and customer traffic.

Bankruptcies accounted for a large chunk of the stores that have closed or are closing. But a tough physical retail environment stemming from steeper online competition is also being blamed.

We compiled a list of the 8,053 closures that were announced in 2017.

PIiny the Elder knew that truth comes out in it. Aeschylus called it the mirror of the mind. Robert Louis Stevenson said it was bottled poetry. Mark Twain compared the books of great geniuses to it. It is no wonder that wine—which perfectly complements food, inhibits inhibitions, and alters perceptions—has been inseparable from civilization from time immemorial. But when, exactly, “immemorial” started is still being investigated.

The absolute earliest confirmation of grape wine production, at about 7000 BCE, actually comes from China. But wine production started in the Near East. Canaanites brought it to Egypt by 3000 BCE, and from there it eventually swept through Europe. The earliest evidence of Neolithic Near Eastern wine had been from 5400-5000 BCE in the northwestern Zagros mountains of Iran. Now, new evidence pushes the start date about five hundred years back and a thousand kilometers north, to 6000-5800 BCE in the South Caucasus.

Back in the 1960s, a pottery sherd (not a typo—it’s the word archaeologists use for shards, for some reason) from a dig near Tbilisi tested positive for tartaric acid. That’s the principal biomarker for wine, as it’s not present in most fruits but is the most abundant acid in grapes. But in the 1960s it was standard practice to wash sherds in hydrochloric acid, and, anyway, this sherd was found on the surface, so who knows what it was exposed to in the environment. Point is, this was not the most reliable of artifacts.
