Greetings, Arsians! Courtesy of our friends at TechBargains, we have another round of deals to share. Today’s list is headlined by the handful of pre-order deals that are out there for Google’s Pixel 3 phones, which the tech giant launched earlier this week.
Now, our first impressions of the new hardware aren’t incredibly positive, and we’d recommend waiting for our review to drop before making any judgments if you’re on the fence. If you’re dead set on only buying from Google, though, there are a handful of special offers available. Verizon has a BOGO deal that ultimately takes $ 800 off a second Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL phone, while Best Buy is offering a $ 100 store gift card with a purchase. Google’s Project Fi is offering a $ 799 credit deal for new users as well.
Per usual, these offers come with heavy caveats. Best Buy’s offer is for new Verizon activations only—not those who just buy the phone unlocked—and requires a monthly installment plan. The “$ 800 off” deal at Verizon and Best Buy, meanwhile, comes in the form of 24 monthly bill credits, each worth $ 33.33 a month. That means you’ll still be paying for two phones upfront and you’ll have to stick with Verizon and the Pixel 3 phone for two years to get all money back. Project Fi’s deal requires that you have an existing member on a group plan and buy two Pixel 3 devices, at which point the $ 799 credit will be put toward a new user added to that same plan.

Ebay is a brilliant platform to source and sell on rare coins which are hard to find elsewhere.
Certain coin types sell for many times their face value in the coin collecting community.
One of these rare coins is a particular Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit 50p produced in 2016.
The 50p, which features a design of a rabbit, is particularly rare because of its unique flaw.
The rabbit in this coin has half of one of its 11 whiskers missing when you look closely.
The description explains the coin is a “Very Rare Peter Rabbit 50p coin with 10.5 whiskers”.
A comment below the listing on eBay explains what is so rare about this particular coin.
“These first day Beatrix potter covers are getting quite hard to get hold of,” reads the comment.
“So if you get the chance to get hold of one you have got to snap it up.
“Do not leave it to long as the price is going to go through the roof sooner but if you are a fan they are worth having.”
Another coin fan wrote: “This is one of the best coins around. Good luck to some one out there.
Last month, a rare 50p coin was selling for £3,000 on eBay.
Ebay is home to a great many rare coin varieties, which are bought and sold on the website every single day.
Certain coins are of particular rarity to collectors, who know the value of these special pieces of the British currency.
A rare 50p coin celebrating the 250th anniversary of Samuel Johnson’s dictionary is an example of this.
The reverse design of this silver 50p coin has the words ‘fifty pence’ written on it in the characteristic style of the dictionary it commemorates.
It has the usual heptagon shape of most 50p coins, but in its rareness it stands out from the rest.
The seller, who goes by the username go666o2012 and has 100 per cent positive feedback, describes the coin simply as a “very rare used coin”.
However the Royal Mint website gives us more information about this particularly special piece of British currency.
“Entries from the dictionary for the words FIFTY and PENCE, with the figure ’50’ above, and the inscription JOHNSON’S DICTIONARY 1755 below,” reads the entry on the website.
Ebay is home to some of the rarest coin collections, with treasured merchandise being bought and sold among collectors everyday.
A particularly rare 50p coin, depicting a scene from the 1066 Battle of Hastings, has gone on sale on the auction website for £800.
But what is so special about it? The silver 50p coin looks to be in good condition, but only a collector can tell its true value.
The coin has 175 people watching it and has been viewed by seven people in the past hour alone, showing it is very sought after indeed.
The seller, known by the username kubitzi-uk, describes the coin as “a circulated but rare 50 p coin depicting the Battle of Hastings 1066”.
The Royal Mint website tells us a little more about the coin itself, including what makes it so rare among collectors.
“To mark 950 years since the Battle of Hastings, the date that made history, The Royal Mint released this commemorative 50p coin.
“John Bergdahl’s medieval composition expertly captures the essence of the period.”
It goes on to describe the equilateral curve heptagon shape of the British 50p coin as “revolutionary”.
“While this design may have been traditional, the shape of the new 50p coin, an equilateral curve heptagon, was revolutionary.
“This made it easily distinguishable from round coins both by feel and by sight, while its constant breadth allowed it to roll in vending machines.”
Yesterday, a rare 2p coin with the wording new pence on it was listed on eBay priced at the huge sum of £5,000.
While 2p coins are not uncommon, what makes this specific coin popular is the unique wording on it.
Rather than “two pence”, the coin says “new pence” on it – as all coins produced between 1971 and 1981 did.
The coin in question is from 1971, the year the new pence coins began being produced, and this gives it a special status.
The seller, known as obkhan786, refers to the coin as a “unique piece of 2p coin”.
After less than two weeks in theaters, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has surpassed $ 800 million at the global box office. As of this writing, BoxOfficeMojo puts the movie’s worldwide grosses at more than $ 815 million, and some box office analysts are predicting that the latest entry into the Star Wars franchise could finish its theatrical run with as much as $ 1.6 billion.
See how the box office numbers for Rian Johnson‘s sequel compare to those for J.J. Abrams‘ The Force Awakens below.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi had an impressive debut, as it pulled in $ 45 million during its opening Thursday night screenings – second only to The Force Awakens. In its second weekend, The Last Jedi suffered a large percentage drop, leading to a bit of hand-wringing that the film may be losing a bit of steam. Here’s another way of looking at it: The Last Jedi has made $ 815 million in the same amount of time it took The Force Awakens to make $ 1.2 billion. That’s a pretty huge difference, but it makes sense considering The Force Awakens had a curiosity factor to it that The Last Jedi can’t replicate. Everyone and their mother was wondering what a new Star Wars movie would look like when J.J. Abrams started this new trilogy, and now that the foundation has been laid, it stands to reason that the same level of curiosity wouldn’t quite apply to a sequel.
Another reason for the slower start is because Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has served as a larger competitor than many people anticipated (because that movie is fun!), and because The Force Awakens didn’t have as much competition when it was released back in December of 2015. But hardcore Star Wars fans and regular moviegoers curious to see what all the fuss is about will continue to pour into theaters over the holiday break to see The Last Jedi, and analysts predict that Johnson’s movie could end its theatrical run with $ 1.6 billion worldwide. (Abrams’ movie finished its run with over $ 2 billion in total.)
When all is said and done, The Last Jedi could beat out Avatar ($ 760.5 million) and Titanic ($ 659.4) as the second-biggest domestic release of all time behind The Force Awakens‘ staggering $ 936.7 million domestic haul. Forbes suggests the movie could make over a billion worldwide before the year’s end, and as long as it finishes its run with more than $ 1.3 billion, it’ll best Beauty and the Beast to become the highest-grossing movie of 2017. That’d be quite the accomplishment for a director whose previous three films combined grossed only $ 186 million. Not bad, Rian Johnson. Not bad at all.

Broadcom just unloaded a record-breaking $ 130 billion bid for fellow semiconductor giant Qualcomm.
If completed, it would be the largest tech takeover of all time — and could net the companies’ investment bankers a massive payday of as much as $ 280 million in advisory fees. Qualcomm is reportedly planning to reject the offer.
This isn’t the first mammoth transaction Wall Street bankers have orchestrated involving these two firms. Qualcomm was in the middle of trying to buy NXP Semiconductor’s for $ 47 billion — which also would be one of the largest deals of all time — before Broadcom crashed the party and said it would buy Qualcomm, with or without NXP.
In fact, bankers have been bingeing on lucrative M&A deals involving Broadcom, Qualcomm, and NXP over the past three years.
The feeding frenzy so far, including the pending transactions, involves four deals since 2015 worth $ 230 billion. The deals could trigger as much as $ 790 million in fees for the Wall Street firms running the deals, according to according to Jeffrey Nassof, director of consulting firm Freeman & Co.
That figure includes financing fees — except for the just-announced Broadcom for Qualcomm deal — which adds $ 210 million to the tally. Broadcom could reportedly require as much as $ 90 billion in debt to close the deal, which means the total amount of advisory and financing fees paid out to banks could surpass $ 1 billion.
In many cases, the same banks have advised on multiple transactions. JPMorgan advised Broadcom on its deal with Avago, signed on to help finance Qualcomm’s deal for NXP Semiconductors, and is part of the financing team for Broadcom’s bid for Qualcomm.
Here’s a breakdown of the transactions, as well as how much bankers earned in advisory fees:
Announced in March of 2015 and completed later that year in December.
Dutch chipmaker NXP was advised exclusively by Credit Suisse, which also provided financing for the transaction along with several other banks. Credit Suisse earned $ 25 million in fees for advising on the deal, and a share of the $ 35 million fee for arranging $ 5.3 billion in debt financing, according to according to Jeffrey Nassof, director of consulting firm Freeman & Co.
Morgan Stanley was the exclusive advisor to Freescale, which paid the bank $ 42 million in fees.
Fees: $ 102 million
Avago announced it would pay $ 17 billion in cash and $ 20 billion in stock to acquire Broadcom, adopting the latter company’s name and creating the behemoth that’s now pursuing Qualcomm. The deal closed at the beginning of 2016.
Avago hired Deutsche Bank as its financial adviser for the deal, paying $ 22.5 million in fees, according to fillings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Broadcom hired JPMorgan as its adviser, agreeing to pay a fee of 0.14% of the total deal value, which comes to nearly $ 52 million.
Wall Street banks also earned $ 100 million in fees for arranging $ 16.1 billion in debt financing, according to Nassof.
Fees: $ 174.5 million
Last year, Qualcomm ponied up an all-cash offer of $ 47 billion to buy NXP. The deal is still in limbo, as NXP shareholders — including feared activist Elliott Management — had been hoping to extract a sweeter offer.
The boutique bank Qatalyst Partners was the lead adviser to NXP, along with Barclays and Credit Suisse. On the buy side, Goldman Sachs and Evercore advised Qualcomm. The boutique firm Centerview Partners advised Qualcomm’s board. And Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan signed on to provide debt financing.
The banks would share a pot of between $ 140 million and $ 160 million, according to Nassof.
Banks would also earn a $ 75 million fee for arranging $ 24.6 billion in debt to finance the deal.
Fees: As much as $ 235 million
Moelis & Co., Citi, Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and Morgan Stanley are each advising Broadcom on the potential merger. Those banks could share between $ 110 million and $ 135 million in advisory fees, according to Nassof.
Qualcomm has retained Goldman Sachs and Evercore to mount its defense in the deal; the banks could earn between $ 120 million and $ 145 million in fees, according to Nassof.
Bank of America, Citi, Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan, and Morgan Stanley are also helping arrange debt financing, and Silver Lake Partners has agreed to supply $ 5 billion in convertible debt financing.
Broadcom could reportedly require as much as $ 90 billion in debt to close the deal, but it’s too early to say how much banks would net from arranging the financing. If they financed the majority of the transaction through the bond markets, however, the fees could top $ 500 million, according to Nassof.
Fees: As much as $ 280 million

A rare 50p coin is selling for up to £800 on eBay. The coins represent quite some value to collectors, who are keen to add to their stock.
This 50p, created in 2010, was minted for a special reason – to honour a British institution.
The coins, of which 7,410,090 were created, celebrate Girl Guiding.
In fact, the piece was created for the centenary of the charitable organisation. It features a design with six clovers in a circular design around a smaller clover – which is the sign of the Girl Guides.
An inscription on the same face of the coin reads: “Celebrating one hundred years of girl guiding UK.”
The design was created by a pair, Jonathan Evans and Donna Hainan.
The Girl Guides is now a worldwide institution, with huge numbers in countries all over the globe.
In the UK alone there were 554,939 Girl Guides at the most recent count. In the US there are a whopping 3,169,371. India boasts 1,780,545 Girl Guides.
One eBay seller, rdk302007, has the coin listed for £800.
The seller writes: “One of few rare celebratory 50 pence pieces celebrating one hundred years of girlguiding.
“A real collectors coin, which is gaining more and more popularity amongst collectors. As shown, girlguiding crest on the front. Free postage.”
Another seller, gretania26, has the coin listed for £250, with £5 post and packaging, and state that the coin is in good condition.
This coin was described only as being “in good condition”.
Collectors may also be keen to get their hands on another rare coin, a Beatrix Potter coin.
The rare Mrs Tiggy-Winkle Beatrix Potter coin minted in 2016 is very popular on eBay, and is selling for hundreds on the website.
The 50p coin, with an image of the iconic hedgehog character on the front, is selling for far more than it’s over-the-counter value.
