In this edition of Sequel Bits:

  • Jamie Lee Curtis is in the dark about another Halloween
  • J.K Rowling teases Fantastic Beasts 3
  • Steve Carell is still up for Anchorman 3
  • Bumblebee director Travis Knight wants a Cybertron movie
  • All that and more

Even though the recent revival of Halloween didn’t exactly leave things open-ended, the success of the movie and chatter behind the scenes has indicated that a sequel might be in the works. But if that’s true, Jamie Lee Curtis has no idea what’s going on in that department. She told Entertainment Weekly:

“I have no idea at this point, today, I have no idea. I would make an assumption that, if David Gordon Green has a story to tell, that the people involved with the movie would encourage him to tell it. [Laughs] I haven’t been told whether or not he has a story to tell and whether or not he would include Laurie Strode in the telling. Really, time will tell. I know David is a busy guy.”

fantastic beasts the crimes of grindelwald box office tracking

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was a bit maddening. Full of exposition and a nonsensical storyline complete with a terrible retcon of a twist ending, this sequel was a disaster and had no magic whatsoever. But for fans who are still on the hook for the franchise that still has three movies to go, author turned frustrating screenwriter J.K. Rowling gave the perfect tease for Fantastic Beasts 3:

Fantastic Beasts 3 is slated to arrive on November 20, 2020.

bumblebee trailer

Bumblebee is in theaters this weekend, and hopefully it’s the beginning of a new future for Transformers on the big screen. In fact, the film’s director Travis Knight wants to see a computer animated movie about the fall of Cybertron. He told ScreenRant:

“Well, actually it would be wholly animated because the beginning of the movie is completely animated.” said Mr. Knight. “So, you know, it has live action lighting and textures and everything else, so it has that feeling, but yeah, I would love to see that movie. I gotta tell you… that was one of the biggest thrills for me, in this process, was bringing Cybertron to life and seeing the fall of Cybertron, just a glimpse of it, because that’s where the animated series began and we wanted to begin this film in the same manner, to pay tribute to that and it was so much fun. I tried to stuff as much as I possible could into those opening moments, just because that’s the movie I’ve always wanted to see, I would love to see a movie like that, yeah.”

Last week, Sylvester Stallone posted this intimidating photo from the upcoming Rambo 5: Last Blood. It looks like the accompanying caption is a line from the movie, so it’s clear Rambo hasn’t lost his touch. Rambo 5 still doesn’t have a release date, but it’s expected sometime in 2019.

Here’s the  synopsis for those who may not be keeping up:

“Rambo teams up with a journalist to track down and rescue a group of local girls that have been kidnapped by a Mexican sex trafficking ring, after trying to settle down to a quiet peaceful life stateside at the family ranch in Arizona after spending decades abroad.”

Right now Steve Carell is making the publicity rounds for the drama Welcome to Marwen, but he’s being asked about the possibility of future project. And there are some fans who want to see Carell back as dimwitted news anchor Brick Tamland in the Anchorman series. Even though he’s not down to return to The Office, he’s always up for more Anchorman. He told Variety:

“If they make another one, I’ll do another one. Those are really fun. That’s just hanging out with friends and being silly,”

There haven’t been any major updates for the next James Bond movie lately, but the 25th installment of the long-running spy franchise has hired a reliable crew member for the sequel directed by Cary Fukunaga.

HN Entertainment has word that Skyfall and Casino Royale 2nd unit director and 2nd unit director of photography Alexander Witt will return in the same capacity for James Bond 25. He’ll be working with the film’s primary director of photography Linus Sandgren (First Man, La La Land).

For those who don’t know, the 2nd unit director takes care of key establishing shots of city skylines, landscapes and other key locations. But they also take on stunt and action sequences that might be a little too tricky for the main camera team to handle.

In this edition of Sequel Bits:

  • Tom Hanks gets emotional about the Toy Story 4 ending.
  • Fede Alvarez says that despite recent reports, the Labyrinth 2 script isn’t done.
  • Tom Cruise is allegedly learning to really fly fighter jets for Top Gun 2, because of course he is.
  • Peter Jackson says Tintin 2 might film next year, but we’ll believe it when we see it.
  • Richard Donner offers an update on Lethal Weapon 5.
  • The Jay and Silent Bob reboot will start shooting next year.

Remember how the ending of Toy Story 3 made you cry until your head hurt? Well, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! Appearing on the BBC Radio 2 talk show “The Chris Evans Breakfast Show,” Tom Hanks talked a little about the emotional moment he recorded the Toy Story 4 finale. “It was the first time that we were going to be recording the end of the movie, and Toy Story [4] is going to have an impactful ending,” said the actor, who voices Woody in the franchise. Hanks went on to add: “The way you record Toy Story, you’re in a room with the team that has created it. When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually, you’re facing him so he can look right up and you can talk about it… But I didn’t want to see them and pretend they couldn’t see me.” Hanks comments compliment those of his co-star Tim Allen, who previously said he had trouble getting through recording the final scene because it was so emotional. In short, prepare to weep again when Toy Story 4 arrives June 21, 2019.

labyrinth sequel

Recently, word came from Fede Alvrez that the script for Labyrinth 2 was written, which lead many to report the script was “complete.” Alvarez has now clarified things, saying that’s not exactly true. “I never said the script is complete,” Alvarez told MovieWeb. “I never believe the script is actually complete. We do have a first version of it, we have a first version that I think is amazing. I’m sure we’ve gotta write more…” Alvarez also added: “It will take some time because that’s not something you rush. It’s been enough years that I think no one should rush that one. We’re gonna try and get it right.” I’m really not sure what to make of this Labyrinth sequel idea in general. How can you make Labyrinth without David Bowie? I guess we’ll find out, sooner or later.

top gun 2 cast

That boy Tommy Cruise is at it again. The actor who insists on doing his own stunts might be taking things even further for Top Gun 2, aka Top Gun: Maverick. This is a rumor for now, because it comes from an anonymous source over at the Daily Mail, but Cruise apparently wants to really fly a fighter jet in the movie – not just pretend. If this is true, we’ll know about it soon, because Cruise is never shy about publicity regarding his crazy-ass stunts. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if this turned out to be the real deal, though.

Tintin 2

Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg have been teasing a sequel to The Adventures of Tintin for years, so forgive me if I have my doubts about this story. But according to Jackson, the long-awaited sequel could start production next year. Per Yahoo, Jackson said he and his team will “possibly even doing mo-cap next year.” I’ll believe it when I see it! I quite enjoyed the first Tintin, and I’d happily watch a sequel – although I’d be more excited if Steven Spielberg were coming back to direct. But the plan was always for Spielberg to direct the first film, and for Jackson to make the follow-up, so we shall see.

Lethal Weapon 5

The on-again, off-again story of Lethal Weapon 5 appears to be on-again…maybe. Richard Donner has been hoping to reunite Danny Glover and Mel Gibson for yet another entry in the action franchise for some time now, and the project has gone through fits and starts. At one point, Donner said it was a sure thing…then walked it back, saying it might not happen after all. Now, in an interview with Movies In Focus, Donner is once again saying it could happen. According to the filmmaker, he’s hired a writer to turn in a new draft, and if the draft is good, he’ll go from there. I’m not sure anyone even wants a Lethal Weapon 5 at this point, but I could be wrong.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

Kevin Smith is rebooting Jay and Silent Bob, somehow, and according to Jason Mewes, production will begin soon. The actor, who plays Jay in the series, told Laugh Spin: “Hopefully, all is going as planned. We have the money. We have location. We have the offers out to people. Kevin and I went to the doctor cuz, you know, you have to get insured and bonded and stuff. We’re in motion to start pre-production January. February we start shooting. So as long as everything stays on track, yes, Jay and Silent Bob reboot will be made and I’m very excited because I definitely would love to do one more Jay and Bob movie before, you know, we get super old and too old to hang out with apes and swing from grappling hooks and all that good stuff. ” Mewes also added that “we were going to do Mallrats 2. We started making plans. We got people going, ‘Hey, we got the money.’ But then Universal owns the rights, and Universal’s like, ‘We’ve never given a title back to anybody. We don’t want to make the movie.’” So don’t expect Mallrats 2 anytime soon.

  • Jumanji 3 begins shooting in January.
  • James Wan knows where he’d like to take Aquaman 2.
  • What Mamma Mia 3 should be about, according to the cast.
  • Johnny Depp may not appear in Pirates of the Caribbean reboot.
  • Sylvester Stallone gives a glimpse of the “Heartstopper” knife on the set of Rambo 5.
  • 3D animated sequel Bigfoot Superstar taps Ben Stassen to direct.
  • A Godzilla: King of Monsters prequel comic is in the works.

jumanji sequel

The third Jumanji film will begin production in January. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star Kevin Hart confirmed that the follow-up comedy film, the still-untitled Jumanji 3, will begin shooting at the end of January, according to Variety. The actor, who was doing press for his newest film Night School, confirmed that the cast of the last film which included Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, will be returning for Jumanji 3:

“We start shooting at the end of January. We almost made a billion dollars with the first one, so to have the opportunity to repeat that same level of success is beyond exciting. To get that whole crew back is exciting. I’m pumped up about it.”

Director Jake Kasdan is expected to return to the director’s chair for the sequel to the 2017 runaway hit, which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 13, 2019.

aquaman trailer new

Aquaman may not have hit theaters yet, but director James Wan already has an idea for the plot of the sequel. In an interview with CinemaBlend, Wan said that the potential sequel wouldn’t necessarily focus on the Atlantean hero, but dive into the rich mythology of the seven kingdoms of Atlantis:

“There’s definitely stories, even within the world we’ve created, that you can actually see other storylines [spinning off from] as well. There’s the Aquaman story, but then there’s the stories of the seven different kingdoms as well. I think those would be very fun to explore.”

Aquaman opens in theaters on December 14, 2018.

mamma mia here we go again reviews

CinemaBlend has another scoop for a not-yet confirmed sequel: Mamma Mia 3. The second film, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, was an unexpected summer hit, which could lead to a third film following up on our favorite ABBA-singing friends. No confirmation has taken place for Mamma Mia 3, but here’s what the cast thinks the third film would be about:

Jessica Keenan Wynn: It’s a look at… Ruby’s, Ruby’s version. Um, Cher, maybe Cher at a young age meeting Senior Cienfuegos, or what it was like for her having Donna. I feel like that could be an interesting angle, and it wouldn’t [change] anything else that hasn’t been established in the film. That’s a completely different storyline that we created this time.

Lily James: It’s interesting as well because it would be a young Cher… good luck. [Laughing] … And then it would be like, because my Donna, young Donna, I say, like, ‘Years ago my mom was in Central America and she got her heart broken into a million little pieces.’ And that’s in reference to Senior Cienfuegos. So it would be cool. You could set it in Central America, you could have a young Cher, a young Andy Garcia…yeah.

After riffing a little, James (who plays a young Meryl Streep) and Keenan Wynn (who played a young Christine Baranski), shared their second idea would be Mamma Mia 3: The DNA Test in which we finally find out who Amanda Seyfried‘s father is. But honestly, who wouldn’t want all their dads to be Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgård?

Pirates franchise won't go on without Johnny Depp

Captain Jack Sparrow may not be making a miraculous return in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. While reports suggested that Johnny Depp‘s franchise-favorite character wouldn’t appear in the reboot, Pirates of the Caribbean writer Stuart Beattie seemed to confirm to DailyMailTV Depp’s exit:

“I think he’s had a great run. Obviously, he’s made that character his own and it’s become the character he’s most famous for now. And kids all over the world love him as that character so I think it’s been great for him, it’s been great for us, so I’m just very, very happy about it.”

Sylvester Stallone gave fans a first look at his new “Heartstoppe” knife, the giant new blade that Stallone’s title character will wield in Rambo 5: Last Blood. “Gripping the ‘Heartstopper’ … you just don’t turn it off,” Stallone wrote on his Instagram caption.

Stallone will reprise the character of Rambo for one last time in Rambo 5: Last Blood, which will follow the  troubled Vietnam War vet and former U.S. Army Special Forces soldier as a friend tasks him with rescuing his daughter from a Mexican cartel.

Did you know there was a 3D animated movie called Son of Bigfoot that made more than $ 50 million worldwide? Me neither! But apparently the 2017 nWave Studios film about — you guessed it — the son of Bigfoot, will get a sequel titled Bigfoot Superstar. Variety reports that Ben Stassen of nWave Studios has been tapped to helm Bigfoot Superstar, which sadly does not seem to be an adaptation of the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar.

Excited for the upcoming Legendary blockbuster Godzilla: King of Monsters? You can prepare for the release of the sequel to 2014’s Godzilla with a new prequel graphic novel written by Arvid Nelson with art from Drew Edward Johnson. Titled Godzilla: Aftershock (to be released in spring 2019), the graphic novel follows the kaiju monster after the events of the first film as he faces a new enemy, causing devastating earthquakes in the process.  Senior Vice President Robert Napton talked described the new prequel graphic novel and how it adds to Legendary’s MonterVerse, which includes Kong: Skull Island and more:

“Godzilla: Aftershock is yet another exhilarating entry into the canon of the MonsterVerse, and it is especially exciting to introduce fans to a brand new original monster unique to the comic, but true to the legacy of Godzilla.”

Godzilla: King of Monsters hits theaters on May 31, 2019.

‘Devil May Cry 5’ fans in Japan get insane $8,000 bundle https://briefnews.eu/devil-may-cry-5-fans-in-japan-get-insane-8000-bundle/ https://briefnews.eu/devil-may-cry-5-fans-in-japan-get-insane-8000-bundle/#respond Mon, 22 Oct 2018 19:39:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/devil-may-cry-5-fans-in-japan-get-insane-8000-bundle/

If you plan on dressing up as Dante for Halloween, this is the jacket to get. Camcom has announced a new Devil May Cry 5 “Ultra Limited Edition” bundle via its E-Capcom website. The bundle includes a copy of the game — either for Xbox One or PS4 — interchangeable box art, and a life-sized leather replica of Dante’s jacket.

There are three options to choose from. The Jacket for character V is the cheapest, at 600,000 yen, or $ 5,317, with Nero’s jacket coming in at 750,000 yen, or $ 6,646, and finally with Dante’s jacket landing at a whopping 900,000 yen, or $ 7,975. All jackets have incredible attention to detail, with little nicks and signs of abrasion throughout. Nero’s jacket can also come with a damaged sleeve if you so desire. And if you’re not inclined to spend in the four-figure range, there’s also the “Classic Work Shirt” bundle which can be had for 11,852 yen, or $ 105.

This is not the first time Capcom has gone all out with a bundle. In 2012, for the release of Resident Evil 6, the publisher released a similar bundle featuring Leon Kennedy’s jacket. This bundle has not been announced for the US or international markets, but pre-orders are live. To place an order, you’ll have to follow the link on the website and email E-Capcom to confirm. Just don’t wear it outside of a video game convention (or Halloween), as it will never make you look cool.

In this edition of sequel bits:

  • A teaser poster (of sorts) for John Wick: Chapter 3
  • Lethal Weapon 5 might still be happening after all
  • Will Paddington 3 happen? It should, but no one knows yet
  • Bond 25 won’t start production until the end of the year
  • Another behind-the-scenes look at Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
  • A new Equalizer 2 poster
  • David Leitch offers an update on Atomic Blonde 2 and Hobbs and Shaw
  • Jenn Murray joins Maleficent 2
  • An explanation on Deadpool 2‘s title, in case you needed something like that

John Wick: Chapter 3 is currently filming, and we’re all pretty excited about that. We won’t see an actual teaser or trailer for a while, but here’s a motion poster to keep you satisfied for now. This tweet also confirms what you probably could’ve guessed already: the film is called John Wick: Chapter 3. Keanu Reeves returns as everyone’s favorite well-dressed hitman, who must now fight his way out of New York City. John Wick: Chapter 3 hits theaters May 17, 2019.

Lethal Weapon Sequel Bits

We all thought Lethal Weapon 5 was dead at this point. But…maybe not? In an interview with Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast, director Richard Donner said that Lethal Weapon 5 is “coming up”. Donner didn’t offer any new info, but this is a sharp contrast to Donner’s previous statement, in which he said “I don’t think it’s gonna happen.” In the past, the status of Lethal Weapon 5 has been up in the air. Both Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are apparently down to return, and Donner wants to direct, but the project has gone from seeming like a sure thing to an impossibility over and over again. Now, Donner seems to think it’s definitely happening. We’ll see.

The Paddington films are wonderful. They’re charming, funny films about a nice bear doing nice things for nice people. It’s nice! We as a society of terrible shitheads don’t deserve such nice movies, but I hope they keep making them anyway. So will there be a Paddington 3? Paddington himself, Ben Wishaw, doesn’t really know. As Wishaw tells it, Paddington director Paul King might need a break. Speaking with THR, the actor said:

“I would be up for one, but I think Paul King, who is the writer and the director and instrumental in making those films what they were, I think he quite rightly needs a break… It’s a tremendous amount of work that goes into those films, so I’m not sure if it will happen. Or, if it does, I’m not sure when it will happen… I can’t imagine doing it without Paul. For me, he’s the films. He’s a bit like Paddington Bear himself, I dunno if I could do it without him”

While I respect King’s need for some downtime, I hope he gets the go-ahead to make Paddington 3 sooner rather than later, because I need more of that marmalade loving bear in my life.

bond 25 q

Let’s move from one Ben Wishaw story to another, shall we? In addition to playing Paddington, Wishaw also plays Q in the Bond franchise. While no official announcement has been made yet, everyone is pretty sure Danny Boyle is going to helm Bond 25, the next entry in the spy series. So when is Bond 25 going to start shooting? According to Wishaw, it won’t be until the end of the year. In an interview with THR, the actor said:

“I think it’s not happening until the end of the year, so I have no idea. I know as much as you do! I believe I’m contracted to be in it. That’s as much as I know… I was thrilled when I read that he [Danny Boyle] was going to be doing it. I can’t think of a better, more exciting director for Daniel [Craig], for the way that he’s taken the character. I think it’ll be really exciting to work with him. I’ve been such a big fan.”

As of now, Bond 25 is expected to hit theaters November 8, 2018.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has been uploading a series of behind-the-scenes featurettes called Jurassic Journals. They feature Chris Pratt talking to various members of the cast and crew of the upcoming Jurassic sequel. This latest journal features script supervisor Kelly Krieg. These videos haven’t been earth-shattering, but it’s kind of nice that the production is taking the time to highlight members of a movie crew who usually remain out of the spotlight. It takes a lot of people to get a movie – especially a big movie – like this made, and it’s nice to give them some attention. And speaking of Jurassic World, here’s an amusing photo of Jurassic World 3 director Colin Trevorrow and Jurassic World 3 co-writer Emily Carmichael on the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios.

equalizer 2 poster

Here’s a new poster for The Equalizer 2. The big difference between this sequel and the first Equalizer? Hair. Denzel Washington was bald in the first Equalizer, but based on this poster, he has hair in this film. This is a whole new ball game! The Equalizer 2 has Washington once again playing ass-kicker Robert McCall, who “returns to deliver his special brand of vigilante justice – but how far will he go when it’s someone he loves?” Find out the answer to this question when The Equalizer 2 opens July 20, 2018.

David Leitch is on top of the world right now. He’s got Deadpool 2 in theaters, and he’s currently working on the Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw. And then there’s the possibility of Atomic Blonde 2. When asked about that potential sequel, Leitch said:

“Oh, I would love to continue Lorraine’s story. If there’s will on all parties…it shall be. I think she’s an incredible character and it’s a really fun and interesting world and it’s an interesting take on the spy genre, sort of like revisionist history look that’s centered around a character with an existential crisis and then we wrap it up with some great trappings of music and hardcore action.”

As for Hobbs and Shaw, Leitch added that he thinks the film will appeal to fans of the Fast and Furious franchise:

“I think that we want to appeal to the fans that love the Fast universe and we definitely want to give them the spectacle that they expect. But again, the thing that makes the Fast movies work is the characters they’ve created, right? And Dwayne and Jason’s characters together are so fun and they’re some of my favorite parts of it. I’m excited to put them in crazy situations and make them survive and see where it takes them. In the universe, they come from more the spy world and the agent world and I think we want to lean into their worlds and expand their universe as well and have fun with that. Look, those movies are fun and I’m a huge fan so I’m excited to take my swing at it and do my own take.”

Maleficent 2 jenn murray

Jenn Murray, who has appeared in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, is boarding another franchise. According to Variety, Murray will co-star in Maleficent 2. Both Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning are expected to return for the live-action Disney film. Who is Murray playing? No one knows yet! How’s that for a story, folks? In fact, no one even knows what Maleficent 2 is going to be about. We just know it’s happening. Movies!

Deadpool 2 Reactions

You may have noticed Deadpool 2 has a pretty boring title, as far as modern-day sequels go. Usually, when a big movie gets a big sequel, it has some sort of stupid subtitle. You might have expected the film to be called Deadpool: Rise of the X-Force or some nonsense like that. But no, the filmmakers settled on Deadpool 2. When asked about this, Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed that Deadpool 2 just seemed like the right title to use. Speaking with CinemaBlend, Reese said:

“I think we contemplated the idea of doing one of those silly titles. But it’s been done for 20 years now and it just felt a little bit like a cliche and maybe beneath us. So we decided let’s just keep it Deadpool 2.”

To which Wernick added:

“Strangely, calling it Deadpool 2 made it fresh to us.”

‘Rambo 5’ Will Bring Back Sylvester Stallone to Take on a Mexican Drug Cartel https://briefnews.eu/rambo-5-will-bring-back-sylvester-stallone-to-take-on-a-mexican-drug-cartel/ https://briefnews.eu/rambo-5-will-bring-back-sylvester-stallone-to-take-on-a-mexican-drug-cartel/#respond Sun, 06 May 2018 07:11:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/rambo-5-will-bring-back-sylvester-stallone-to-take-on-a-mexican-drug-cartel/ Rambo 5 - Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone may be 71 years old, but that’s not going to stop him from taking on some new enemies in yet another sequel in the Rambo action franchise.

Rambo 5 is currently being shopped around by Avi Lerner and his Millennium Films banner at the Cannes Film Market. And rather than passing the torch as Stallone did in the   spin-off Creed, it looks like Sylvester Stallone will take the lead again as the Vietnam veteran who can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble.

Deadline has news of Rambo 5 in the works with Sylvester Stallone working on the script himself. Avi Lerner, who worked with Stallone on the Expendables franchise, will produce. But what brings Rambo back into action this time?

The last time we heard about Rambo 5 in 2014, the only details we knew were that John Rambo was going to face off with a Mexican drug cartel. It turns out that Rambo is minding his own business on a ranch somewhere, but when a friend’s daughter is kidnapped by the drug cartel, he crosses the Mexican border to get her back.

Does this mean that Millennium Films is no longer considering their reboot of the franchise with Rambo: New Blood? A couple years ago heard about the possibility of a project that would treat Rambo like James Bond and put another actor in the role without Sylvester Stallone being involved anymore. That sounds like an infinitely worse idea than Rambo 5, so hopefully this will just end the franchise entirely.

Rumors previously suggested Rambo 5 would be called Rambo: Last Blood, which would be an appropriate title to end the franchise that began with First Blood back in 1982.

If we’re talking about a Logan-esque send-off for Rambo, then this could be satisfying, but at the same time, I thought we were done with this character after Rambo hit theaters in 2008. While the sequel didn’t bomb, it didn’t make quite as much as First Blood did 26 years earlier, and it seemed like the character had run his course.

Stallone directed Rambo in 2008, but there’s no word on whether he’ll get behind the camera again for this developing sequel. No matter who directs, I hope they can do something to make this character compelling again. Because when you have action movies like John Wick and Mad Max: Fury Road making waves, I’m not sure that John Rambo can keep up with the genre that he once defined. We’ll keep you posted as Rambo 5 develops.

‘Indiana Jones 5’ Will Be Harrison Ford’s Last Time Playing the Iconic Character https://briefnews.eu/indiana-jones-5-will-be-harrison-fords-last-time-playing-the-iconic-character/ https://briefnews.eu/indiana-jones-5-will-be-harrison-fords-last-time-playing-the-iconic-character/#respond Thu, 05 Apr 2018 09:47:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/indiana-jones-5-will-be-harrison-fords-last-time-playing-the-iconic-character/ indiana jones 5 harrison ford

Harrison Ford is about ready to hang up his fedora for good. The actor will play Indiana Jones again in Indiana Jones 5, but according to Steven Spielberg, Indy 5 will be Ford’s last time cracking the whip. Spielberg doesn’t rule out future Indiana Jones movies, though, and even weighs in on a possible female take on the character.

The days of Harrison Ford playing Indiana Jones are numbered. The actor has been playing Indy on and off again for almost 40 years, but, according to Steven Spielberg, Ford’s next take on the character will be his last. Speaking with The Sun, Spielberg said, “This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that.”

This isn’t the most shocking news. Ford is getting up there in age – he’s 75 now, and he’ll be 76 when Indiana Jones 5 starts shooting in 2019. Still, Ford hanging up Indy’s fedora will signify the end of an era. As Spielberg himself says, there will surely be more Indiana Jones films in the future. There were even rumors that the series would be rebooted with Chris Pratt.

Spielberg himself weighed in on a possible female replacement for Ford. “We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that.” Of course, Jones is the character’s last name, so I’m not sure why you’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan…but maybe Spielberg is just joking. Personally, I’d be perfectly fine with a female Indiana Jones, but I’m sure someone, somewhere, on the internet will have a problem with this. Let’s cross that bridge when and if we get to it.

In the past, Ford said he would return to the Indiana Jones role one more time under two conditions: Spielberg had to return, and the script had to be good. “I’ve always thought there was an opportunity to do another,” Ford said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “But I didn’t want to do it without Steven [Spielberg]. And I didn’t want to do it without a really good script. And happily we’re working on both. Steven is developing a script now that I think we’re going to be very happy with.”

Indiana Jones fans were not very pleased with the previous Indy film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Perhaps this final Harrison Ford Indiana Jones film will remedy things, and be the perfect opportunity to let Ford go out on a high note.

Irishmen subjected to CIA-style ‘5 techniques’ by British not tortured – European court https://briefnews.eu/irishmen-subjected-to-cia-style-5-techniques-by-british-not-tortured-european-court/ https://briefnews.eu/irishmen-subjected-to-cia-style-5-techniques-by-british-not-tortured-european-court/#respond Tue, 20 Mar 2018 17:10:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/irishmen-subjected-to-cia-style-5-techniques-by-british-not-tortured-european-court/

A European court has rejected a request to find that a group of 14 men detained during internment in Northern Ireland suffered torture. The prisoners were subjected to white noise, sleep and food deprivation as well as beatings.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejected the Irish government petition to revise a 1978 judgement against the UK and find that the prisoners, known as the ‘hooded men’ were subjected to torture.

The men were exposed to methods known as the “five techniques” – hooding, white noise, stress positions, sleep deprivation, and food deprivation. The practice was applied over an unknown period of four to seven days for an unspecified number of hours at a time. Similar interrogation techniques have since been deployed by the CIA and outlined in a 2014 Senate Torture report.

The men, who were all Catholic, were detained in 1971 at the height of The Troubles after Northern Ireland used the Special Powers Act to introduce internment without trial for those suspected of being involved in violence. They were hooded and flown by helicopter to a secret location, later revealed as a British Army camp outside Derry in Northern Ireland. Before landing they were dangled out of the helicopter and told they were high in the air, although they were close to the ground. None of the individuals were ever convicted of wrongdoing.

In 1978 the ECHR found that the British authorities’ actions amounted to inhuman and degrading treatment, but not torture. Following a TV documentary in 2014, which brought archived files to light, the Irish government requested a revision of the original judgment.

The Irish government submitted that a psychiatrist who gave evidence as an expert for the British government misled the Commission by saying that the effects of the ill-treatment were short-lived when he knew that the use of the five techniques had long-lasting and severe effects. The government cited archived documents that allegedly revealed the British authorities had tried to prevent the court from accessing the full truth about the five techniques.

Overall, the court found that the documents did not demonstrate facts which were unknown at the time. It added that it could also not be said that such knowledge might have had a decisive influence leading to a finding of torture, noting that the original judgment had made no reference to the issue of such long-term effects. The revision request was dismissed by a chamber of seven judges by six votes to one.

Amnesty International, who visited the detainees in 1971 and stated then there was evidence of torture at the camp, described today’s decision as “disappointing.” It noted that the ruling is not a statement that the ‘five techniques’ do not constitute torture as it is legally defined today.

“What has been revealed in the files withheld by the UK government cannot be denied. These men were tortured, and with approval at the highest levels of government. The record of what these men endured in those interrogation rooms 47 years ago, and the devastating impact on them afterwards, still stands,” Amnesty said.

‘Indiana Jones 5’ Will Begin Filming in April 2019, Says Steven Spielberg https://briefnews.eu/indiana-jones-5-will-begin-filming-in-april-2019-says-steven-spielberg/ https://briefnews.eu/indiana-jones-5-will-begin-filming-in-april-2019-says-steven-spielberg/#respond Mon, 19 Mar 2018 15:55:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/indiana-jones-5-will-begin-filming-in-april-2019-says-steven-spielberg/ indiana jones 5 filming

In the battle between West Side Story and a new Indiana Jones over which movie will capture Steven Spielberg‘s attention first, it looks like Indy won.

The Indiana Jones 5 filming start date has been set for April 2019, according to the acclaimed director. That will give Spielberg ample time to complete the film by its July 2020 release date.

Spielberg has wrapped up a whirlwind two years, with his Oscar-nominated The Post receiving critical acclaim in 2017 and the upcoming Ready Player One making waves at SXSW. But don’t count on the 71-year-old director to take a break anytime soon.

Spielberg is already gearing up for his next big project. And while fans wondered whether that project would be his West Side Story remake or the long-awaited Indiana Jones 5, Spielberg has confirmed that Indiana Jones would be taking priority. Now, we know that Spielberg is planning to shoot Indiana Jones 5 as soon as next year.

In his acceptance speech for a special award at the Rakuten TV Empire Awards, Spielberg revealed that he plans to begin filming Indiana Jones 5 in April 2019 in the U.K. (via ComingSoon.Net):

“It’s always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK. The actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers — everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here.”

Harrison Ford will return as our favorite whip-slinging archaeologist in the untitled Indiana Jones sequel. David Koepp is penning the script.

No plot details have been revealed for the film, though Spielberg promised one big thing to fans. “The one thing I will tell you is I’m not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it,” Spielberg told The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s a reassuring promise after Ford’s other most iconic character, Han Solo, saw his demise at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Many saw the fourth installment of Indiana Jones, 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, as a sort of soft relaunch of the series, with young co-star Shia LaBeouf getting set up as Indy’s heir apparent, but Koepp confirmed that LaBeouf’s character won’t appear in Indiana Jones 5.

So it will be up to Ford to carry on donning the fedora and whip. For how long, we can’t be sure, though Disney CEO Bob Iger has suggested that Indiana Jones 5 won’t be the last film in the franchise.

Indiana Jones 5 is set for a July 20, 2020 release date.

Never Mind, ‘Lethal Weapon 5’ is Probably Dead https://briefnews.eu/never-mind-lethal-weapon-5-is-probably-dead/ https://briefnews.eu/never-mind-lethal-weapon-5-is-probably-dead/#respond Sat, 03 Feb 2018 12:32:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/never-mind-lethal-weapon-5-is-probably-dead/ Lethal Weapon 5

After previous statements making it sound as if Lethal Weapon 5 was all but a done deal, director Richard Donner is now taking a few steps back and saying the potential sequel might be dead. Perhaps it’s for the best.

Recently, word broke that stars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover and director Richard Donner were all in talks to resurrect the too old for this shit Lethal Weapon franchise with Lethal Weapon 5, which would bring back Riggs and Murtaugh for one more adventure. Donner later reiterated that the film would almost certainly happen, sooner rather than later. Well, don’t break out the champagne just yet, Lethal Weapon sequel fans. Donner is now saying that the project has stalled out, and may very well be dead.

While appearing on the Maltin On Movies podcast (via ScreenRant), Donner revealed the title of the film (Lethal Finale), and then went on to say that negotiations have broken down, and problems behind-the-scenes may have killed the film for good:

“I’m ready to do 5. It’s called Lethal Finale. It’s very dark. And we were all set to go and now Warner Bros. is doing their old-fashioned tricks. Not Warner Bros., there’s this guy who runs the studio who’s great but they have these people in the legal department who do the negotiating in the most counter-productive way. They should be sent to a studio and work with the producers and directors and actors, and learn what makes a film, and then negotiate. But it’s just embarrassing.”

Donner added, “I wanted to end it on an emotional note, and I don’t think it’s gonna happen.”

Honestly, this is probably for the best. The first Lethal Weapon is great, and even Lethal Weapon 2 has its moments, but this franchise has run its course. On top of that, there’s so much toxicity surrounding star Mel Gibson that to bring him back as the goofy, lovable, wise-cracking character he played in this franchise would just seem wrong. On top of all that, Donner insisting that this entry was going to be “very dark” doesn’t inspire much confidence. Yes, the Lethal Weapon franchise had its fair share of dark moments, but this was a series that was loved for the humor it mixed in with all its violence – that crackling back-and-forth chemistry between Gibson and Glover is what made it work. To ignore that and make a “very dark” sequel seems kind of silly.

For now, it looks as if Lethal Weapon 5, AKA Lethal Finale, is dead. We’ll have to wait and see if that status changes anytime soon.
