The latest iteration of Ubisoft’s dance-along franchise will support online multiplayer for up to six people at a time, unlocking the full game to be played with friends. The studio promises regular free content updates “for years to come,” including fresh game modes, songs and themed seasons.

Just Dance 2023
Ubisoft

Just Dance 2023 is due to hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch on November 22nd. It’ll come to Google Stadia at a later date.

This marks the first time in Just Dance history that players will be able to get down with friends live and online. The new Online Groups feature in Just Dance 2023 allows players to team up with people they know or other folks around the world, and it has an emoji communication system. The game supports cross-platform play. And, of course, there’s always local multiplayer for in-person dance-offs.

Just Dance 2023
Ubisoft

Just Dance 2023 will include 40 new universes and songs at launch, including “Physical” by Dua Lipa and “More” by K/DA. With a focus on transitioning Just Dance into a live service, rather than a series of discrete titles, Ubisoft will likely have a regular cadence of new material to drop on its dancers post-launch, so don’t stress too much about the track list for now.

Sophie Turner could not care less that her fiancé Joe Jonas once dated Taylor Swift, and TBH we love her even more for it! The “Game Of Thrones” star turned 22 on February 21, and she celebrated in the only way a 22-year-old should: by jamming out to TSwift’s “22,” of course! In a video shared on social media, the actress can be seen lip-syncing the lyric,“I don’t know about you but I’m feeling 22,” from the 10-time Grammy winner’s iconic 2012 track. This isn’t the first time the “X-Men: Apocalypse” star proved she has no bad blood with her fiancé’s ex. When “TIME” named the Silence Breakers as its 2017 Person of the Year, people were upset that the country-turned-pop singer was featured on the magazine’s cover. When one Twitter user questioned, “Did we really need Taylor Swift in here though?” Sophie defended Taylor’s inclusion with a simple, “yes.” The magazine featured the “End Game” singer for her fiery court appearance in August 2017 where she won a symbolic $ 1 after a jury decided that DJ David Mueller, who groped her at a photo call in 2013, was in fact in the wrong. It was amazing to see the “Josie” star stand up for a fellow woman when it mattered, and we’re so glad she’s the type of person who doesn’t let her partner’s romantic history keep her up at night. Keep rockin’ out to “22,” Sophie and happy birthday! Now only if we can get a video of Taylor watching “Game Of Thrones”…

Amazon’s checkout-free store opens to the public January 22nd https://briefnews.eu/amazons-checkout-free-store-opens-to-the-public-january-22nd/ https://briefnews.eu/amazons-checkout-free-store-opens-to-the-public-january-22nd/#respond Sun, 21 Jan 2018 18:24:17 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/amazons-checkout-free-store-opens-to-the-public-january-22nd/

Amazon’s bid to automate the convenience store is finally ready for the public. The company has confirmed that the Amazon Go store attached to its new Seattle headquarters will be open to non-employees on January 22nd, or more than a year later than planned. The premise remains the same. You have to scan in with a smartphone app when you enter the store, but it’s largely friction-free beyond that. A computer vision AI system tracks the items you remove from the shelves, letting you walk out without talking to a cashier or using a self-checkout machine. The only staff you’ll likely see are for ID checking (when buying alcohol) and the kitchen.

Don’t expect to buy everything you’d normally find in a convenience store. Recode likens it to a more elaborate Pret A Manger with ready-to-eat meals as well as drinks, meat, produce, snacks and Amazon’s own meal kits. The main allure, of course, is the speed. You can walk in, grab a veggie wrap and walk out in a matter of seconds.

There aren’t any concrete plans for additional Go stores, and that will likely depend on how well the technology works. How will the AI cope with a busy store, or the inevitable moments when customers have second thoughts and put a product back on the wrong shelf? If it does work, though, it could justify the fears of Walmart and others that have been testing cashier-free stores as a counter to Amazon’s expected strategy. It’s hard enough for conventional retailers to draw you in when you can order many things straight from Amazon — they’ll face an even tougher battle if Amazon can bring that simplicity to the need-it-now world of retail.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

As we prepare for the holiday break, there’s some surprising news from Google’s parent company and our big smartphone camera head-to-head competition.

Interesting.Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt will step down as executive chairman at Alphabet

Since Google co-founder Larry Page took over for him as CEO in 2011, Eric Schmidt has served as executive chairman of the company and maintained that role through the formation of its parent company Alphabet. On Thursday Schmidt announced he’s transitioning to become a “technical advisor on science and technology issues.” He said, “Larry, Sergey, Sundar and I all believe that the time is right in Alphabet’s evolution for this transition.”

Guess which one won.Tested: the best smartphone cameras compared

So which smartphone has the best camera? We put the iPhone X, Pixel 2, Note 8 and Mate 10 Pro to the test in scenarios that are particularly tricky for smartphone cameras and their small sensors: scenes with high contrast, backlighting or substantial vibration.

Tablet-top gaming.‘Civilization VI’ comes to the iPad for $ 30

If you have a relatively new and powerful iPad, then you can play Civilization — yes, the full game, mods and all — on it. Not sure the experience is worth $ 30? The first 60 turns are free.

Take your chances.Apple now requires that games disclose odds of ‘loot box’ rewards

Apple has added a new requirement for games that offer loot boxes with randomized rewards for purchase. If your game has them, you now have to disclose the odds of receiving the prizes promised.

An important upgrade.Razer gives its phone a major camera update

Our review of the first Razer Phone showed it has plenty of power, a quad HD display and loud front-facing speakers, but the camera doesn’t quite measure up. Now Razer has released an update that promises better colors, shadows and low-light performance. The tweaks won’t stop there, either — Razer says another update is incoming that will put its performance on par with the cameras found in other flagship phones.

But wait, there’s more…

It’s officially iPhone 8 day: Apple’s newest devices go on sale in stores and start to reach new owners. (Pro tip: To reset the iPhone 8, you have to press volume up, volume down, then hold the power switch for what feels like far too long.) It’s not all iPhone, though. Read on.

Apple TV 4K hands-on

The Ultra HD Apple TV is here, and it’s everything Devindra Hardawar could ask for. Dolby Vision and HDR10 support are present and accounted for, while the remote has a subtle tweak to help users know if they’re holding it the right way. We’ll have a full review for you next week, but enjoy this taste if you’re waiting to find an accessory for your new 4K TV.

Original Xbox’s ‘Duke’ controller is returning for current platforms

Xbox designer Seamus Blackley has been building a near-perfect recreation of the 17-year-old Duke controller for peripheral company Hyperkin. We don’t have a price or release date yet, but gamers with super-sized paws should keep an eye out for the return of a classic.

Researchers claim it’s the closest artificial material equivalent to a natural muscle.

Synthetic muscle breakthrough could lead to ‘lifelike’ robots

A breakthrough in soft robotics means scientists are now one step closer to creating lifelike machines. Researchers at Columbia Engineering have developed a 3D printed synthetic tissue that can act as active muscle. The material, which can push, pull, bend, and twist (thanks to its use of silicone rubber and ethanol-dispensing micro-bubbles) is also capable of carrying 1,000 times its own weight. Finally: Soft robots will be able to actually do things.

Royole’s ‘personal cinema’ headset carries a heavy premium

The personal cinema: A head-mounted display that lets you immerse yourself in a movie, blocking out the distractions of modern life. No matter if you’re on a plane or train, you can pretend that you have your very own screening room. The latest entrant into that world is Royole, a company that doesn’t have a storied history in consumer devices. It hopes to use its know-how to out-do rival headsets, like Avegant and Sony, which have both offered similar hardware in the past. But is a headset really the future of cinema?

How Peggy Whitson stayed in shape aboard the ISS

Space is no place for battles of the bulge. That’s why NASA insists on getting its astronauts into peak physical condition before sending them offworld. But aboard the ISS, in a living space the size of a football field, the human body will readily go to pot. So how did Peggy Whitson, the longest-orbiting astronaut in American history, manage an astonishing nine and a half months in microgravity without having her body and mind atrophy? She hit the astronaut gym.

This Tuesday morning, we’re still talking about the eclipse, getting a name for Google’s latest version of Android and testing the best virtual assistants out there.

It’ll be on the Pixel very soon.
Oreo is officially the next name for Android

Google loves to make a big splash when it reveals the name for the latest version of Android. But the company is going all out this year, using the solar eclipse as an opportunity to reveal that Android O will henceforth be referred to as Oreo. It makes at least a little sense to tie this reveal into the eclipse — those iconic photos of the solar event are at least a little bit evocative of Oreos, after all.

But why?
The solar eclipse hype is annoying, but the event is worth it

By now, it’s possible that you are completely fatigued by the August 21st total solar eclipse and all the media hype surrounding it — and it hasn’t even happened yet. It seems as though every outlet is talking nonstop about this event. But this actually is a big deal, which is why it’s gotten so much coverage. Let us break it down for you: this is one of those rare cases where the event is worth the hype.

No clear winner.
Engadget is testing all the major AI assistants

Hardly a day goes by that we don’t cover virtual assistants. If it’s not news about Siri, there’s some new development with Alexa, or Cortana or Google Assistant. Perhaps a new player, like Samsung, is wading into the space. Even Android-creator Andy Rubin is considering building an assistant of his own. And his company probably isn’t the only one that thinks there’s room for another AI helper.

With virtual assistants becoming such an integral part of our lives (or at least our tech-news diets), we felt it was time to stop and take stock of everything happening here. For one week, we asked five Engadget reporters to live with one of the major assistants. First up, Google Assistant.

FBI reportedly advising companies to ditch Kaspersky apps.

Kaspersky Lab’s tussle with the US government could have ramifications for its dealings with the private sector. A new report claims the FBI has been meeting with companies to warn them of the threat posed by the cybersecurity firm. The briefings are the latest chapter in an ongoing saga over government agencies’ use of Kaspersky’s products. Officials claim the company is a Russian stooge that can’t be trusted with protecting America’s critical infrastructure. The company denies these claims — its CEO, Eugene Kaspersky, has even offered up its source code in a bid to clear his firm’s name.

‘Quake Champions’ isn’t finished, but you can play it August 22nd https://briefnews.eu/quake-champions-isnt-finished-but-you-can-play-it-august-22nd/ https://briefnews.eu/quake-champions-isnt-finished-but-you-can-play-it-august-22nd/#respond Fri, 18 Aug 2017 05:20:28 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/quake-champions-isnt-finished-but-you-can-play-it-august-22nd/

Been green with envy over your pals playing the Quake Champions closed beta? Time to stop being jealous and start working on your rocket jumping because the classic shooter’s revival is moving to Steam’s Early Access on August 22nd, where everyone can play. Now, there was an open beta during E3, but that was a limited-time deal. To celebrate, publisher Bethesda is knocking 25 percent off the Champions Pack, bringing the price down to $ 29.99.

Technically the game is free to play, but if you want to play via Early Access (and to have all the champions) you’ll have to pay. Assuming you didn’t already have access to the closed beta, that is. If so, you can keep playing, but will only be able to do so via the Bethesda.net launcher. Yes, it’s a little confusing. The game’s free to play version will launch “at a later date.”

In addition to the commemorative price cut, the arena combat game has two new maps, upgrade bounties, new character skins and a tutorial. Oh, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Doom Guy from developer id’s other highly-influential shooter is a playable character now, too. “Fans of Doom can run amok using Doom Slayer’s active ability, Berzerk — smashing enemies into bloody piles of gibs with his bare hands,” Bethesda writes.

Less exciting, but perhaps more useful, Doom Guy retains his double jump from last year’s reboot. Handy! See you on the battlefield.

Vudu movie streaming comes to Apple TV on August 22nd https://briefnews.eu/vudu-movie-streaming-comes-to-apple-tv-on-august-22nd/ https://briefnews.eu/vudu-movie-streaming-comes-to-apple-tv-on-august-22nd/#respond Tue, 15 Aug 2017 22:02:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/vudu-movie-streaming-comes-to-apple-tv-on-august-22nd/

It’s not just Amazon that’s bringing an arguably overdue video service to the Apple TV in the near future. After a tease in June, Vudu has announced that its streaming movie service will come to Apple’s media box on August 22nd, or weeks ahead of the originally announced fall release. You likely won’t pay for movies directly on the device given Apple policies taking a cut of in-app media sales (we’ve asked Vudu for clarification). Still, this means you can watch your purchased or rented Vudu shows on the Apple TV without resorting to AirPlay on one of your iOS devices.

The addition isn’t completely necessary given that iTunes frequently covers the bases for purchases and rentals. All the same, it’s still closing a conspicuous gap in availability. Vudu has been available on Roku players, smart TVs, Chromecast and other devices for years — the Apple TV is one of the few gadgets that can’t access it. You probably weren’t basing your purchasing decision on Vudu (not by itself, at least), but this might help sway you if you’re determined to have as many choices as possible.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Welcome to Thursday morning. We’re reliving the ’90s through, as Sega launches a selection of classic hits both with ads and without. We’re also talking Instagram and its stealth shills, and new emoji. We hope you like fairies.

It should focus less on surprise and more on delight.Apple’s paranoia about leaks is misplaced

Apple’s inability to keep its secrets is so bad that even its internal presentation about confidentiality leaked. It reportedly conducted an hour-long briefing titled “Stopping Leakers — Keeping Confidential at Apple” for about 100 employees to make sure they understood the importance of not leaking information. But that concern is misplaced: Clamping down on leaks won’t help Apple’s bottom line.

The games are free, but you can pay $ 2 to drop the advertisementsSega Forever makes Genesis classics free on mobile

The Sega Forever collection is five titles meant to begin “a retro revolution that will transport players back through two decades of console gaming.” Starting today, the 1991 version of Sonic the Hedgehog, fan-favorite RPG Phantasy Star II, classic arcade-style beat ’em up Comix Zone, platformer Kid Chameleon and Greek mythology-themed beat ’em up Altered Beast will be available on Google Play and iTunes as free ad-supported games.

Can Travis Kalanick’s resignation fix Uber?Uber’s future is still tied to its founder

Uber’s disruptive effect on the taxi business, went hand in hand with throwing out the rulebook. Some of the rules avoided, however, included strict background checks on drivers, and safety laws to ensure that drivers didn’t work for too long, according to Uber co-founder Garrett Camp, who sits as chairperson of the company’s board. He said the team “failed to build some of the systems that every company needs to scale successfully.” Those systems included restrictions on employees sexually harassing their colleagues and preventing engineers from developing tools to hinder law enforcement investigations. Following Travis Kalanick’s resignation, can Uber change enough?

Finally, the monocle emoji.

A new tool could make hidden ads more obvious — if shills use it.Instagram gives social media influencers the benefit of the doubt

social media platform. The “Paid partnership with [enter brand name here]” post format is designed for users who want to advertise products on their page, letting them easily disclose when one of their posts is an ad. Instagram says this is an effort to bring the platform some much-needed transparency. The feature is set to roll out in the coming weeks to a “small number” of creators and businesses, according to the company. The question remains: Will influencers actually use the feature? And what will happen if they don’t?

Niantic has decided that forcing Pokémon Go cheaters to a life of catching Pidgeys isn’t quite enough punishment. Now, any Pokémon caught using “third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay” will be marked with a slash in people’s inventories and “may not behave as expected.”
