Considered a modern sci-fi masterpiece, The Three-Body Problem was first published in China in 2008. It took another six years before the novel arrived in the west, and it subsequently became the first Asian novel to win a Hugo Award. Cixin and Ken Liu, who translated two of the novels in the Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy into English, are consulting on the live-action adaptation.

Netflix signed Benioff and Weiss to a lucrative $ 200 million deal in 2019. The 3-Body Problem is the first project the duo is writing for the company – though they also produced a series with Sandra Oh. Netflix is likely to share more information about the 3-Body Problem in the coming months.

Once the beta arrives, it will be available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PS4, with support for crossplay and cross-progression between platforms supported. If you don’t get into this round of testing, Blizzard notes public testing will begin early next year.

The upcoming beta will focus on Diablo IV’s endgame experience for a couple of reasons. Blizzard says it doesn’t want to spoil the game’s story before release. The decision is also a reflection of the way a lot of players enjoy Diablo games. “For many, the end game is their favorite aspect of Diablo — we want to ensure it feels satisfying, and with no shortage of challenging variety to experience across many, many demon-slaying gaming sessions,” the studio said, adding feedback from participants will play a critical part in polishing the experience. One thing you should not expect is to hear from those playing the closed beta. Blizzard said the event would be “confidential,” a not-so-subtle allusion to the fact footage from Diablo IVleaked over the weekend.

It will launch in 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

The first two Suikoden games were released in 1995 and 1998, respectively, for the original PlayStation. They were then made available for other platforms like the Sega Saturn and PC. Both games were also rereleased once before for the PlayStation Portable in a bundle called Genso Suikoden I & II in 2006. However, this version was never released outside of Japan.

The remake has enhanced visuals with improved lighting, cloud effects, and shadow animations. The art direction has been redesigned, breathing new life into the original’s style. The character portraits have also been redrawn and updated in HD by Junko Kawano, the artist who originally designed the characters in 1995.

More environmental sound effects have been added that weren’t present in the original version, including running water, wind, insect noises, and running footsteps. There are also some new quality-of-life features such as a dialogue log, auto-battle functionality, and double-speed battle capability.

The last mainline entry for this franchise was Suikoden V in 2006 for the PlayStation 2, and the last spinoff game was Gensō Suikoden: The Woven Web of a Century for the PlayStation Portable, the latter of which was released in 2012 and never left Japan. Since then, the series has been dormant. However, Kawano, along with fellow series creator Yoshitaka Murayama, teamed up in 2020 to form the studio Rabbit & Bear to develop a spiritual successor to Suikoden called Eiyuden Chronicle.

In a briefing held before today’s presentation, Ubisoft Bordeaux, the studio leading development on the project, described Basim as the most agile assassin in franchise history. He’ll have new abilities to assist him in avoiding detection, some of which you can see on display in the cinematic trailer Ubisoft shared today. An integral part of Basim’s kit is Enkidu, his pet eagle. Like Senu in Origins, Enkidu can scout ahead for you to spot potential threats, but new to Mirage is that there will be archers who can spot and take out your feathery friend. In addition to new gadgets, including smoke bombs and poison mines, Basim will also have the ability to briefly slow down time and plot out multiple assassinations.

With the action returning primarily to a single city – Baghdad circa 861 CE – parkour will play a much bigger role than in more recent games. Ubisoft Bordeaux said Basim would be one of the fastest free runners in franchise history, with a move set that includes both new and returning tricks. The story, meanwhile, will focus on The Hidden Ones, the organization that predates the Assassin Brotherhood and will see Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse, Destiny 2) play Basim’s mentor, Roshan.

When it arrives next year, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be available on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Amazon Luna and PC. In the meantime, fans can look forward to The Last Chapter. The free DLC will arrive later this year and complete the story of Valhalla.

The new Online Groups feature in Just Dance 2023 allows players to team up with people they know or other folks around the world, and it has an emoji communication system. The game supports cross-platform play. And, of course, there’s always local multiplayer for in-person dance-offs.

Just Dance 2023 will include 40 new universes and songs at launch, including “Physical” by Dua Lipa and “More” by K/DA. With a focus on transitioning Just Dance into a live service, rather than a series of discrete titles, Ubisoft will likely have a regular cadence of new material to drop on its dancers post-launch, so don’t stress too much about the track list for now.

In one of a series of multi-year, megabucks deals the NFL closed on Thursday with assorted outlets, Amazon Prime will become the league’s exclusive Thursday Night Football partner starting with the 2023 season. (Fox has had broadcast dibs on TNF since 2018; prior to that, CBS and NBC divvied up the package of games.)

With this new, 10-year pact, Amazon Prime, which since 2017 had streamed the occasional matchup, will host 15 Thursday Night Football games as well as one pre-season game in the United States.

Beginning in 2023, “Thursday Night Football will be our first-ever digital package and we are thrilled to exclusively partner with Amazon to bring our games to more fans on more platforms,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “NFL football drives passionate viewers and Amazon will enable us to continue to grow our fanbase in innovative and compelling ways.”

Prime Video also secured rights to a weekly slate of original NFL programming and expanded rights to in-game highlights for all NFL matchups. Additionally, Prime Video and the NFL will continue to collaborate on exclusive NFL content and enhanced fan viewing experiences around Thursday Night Football (details to come).

Other highlights of the assorted deals made by the NFL:

🏈 ABC will return to the Super Bowl rotation for the first time since 2006, starting with the Big Game in 2026.

🏈 CBS will remain the broadcast home of AFC games, and stream them on Paramount+. Similarly, Fox will be home base for Sunday NFC games, while NBC will continue on with Sunday Night Football (simulcasting games on Peacock).

🏈 ESPN Plus will stream one International Series game per season.

All told, sources tell the Associated Press, the NFL will take in $ 113 billion (with a B) over 11 seasons starting in 2023, from the assorted deals it just closed — up 80 percent from the previous comparable period.

Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has been named as the first tourist who will fly around the Moon using SpaceX’s Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), according to CEO Elon Musk. Microsoft must still be scarred by having to support Windows XP well past its expiry date, as it’s drawing a line in the sand for Windows 7 users. Corporate and institutional customers can only pay for extended security update support through January 2023, or about three years after Microsoft stops providing regular patches. On top of this, the price will increase every year between 2020 and 2023 — the longer a company clings to the past, the costlier it gets.

That may sound like a long time when Windows 7 launched way back in 2009. However, it’s important to remember that Microsoft only ended extended support for Windows XP in 2014, and kept paid support going sometime after that. This is a comparatively early end, and Microsoft isn’t shy about encouraging customers to upgrade sooner than 2023.

As you might suspect, Microsoft is hoping to improve Windows 10 sales. It’s not just a matter of trying to boost quarterly numbers, though. Windows XP’s extra-long lifespan created serious problems for the PC industry at large when business customers were reluctant to upgrade. It even created security issues when Microsoft had to make a support exception to patch XP systems against WannaCry. The sooner Microsoft can convince everyone to join the modern era, the sooner it can relax.

General Motors might not be ready to put traditional internal-combustion vehicles on notice, as some automakers effectively have done, but it is announcing a major commitment to electric vehicles. Over the next 18 months, GM will introduce two new all-electric vehicles that it said are “based off learnings from the Chevrolet Bolt EV.” And those will be the first two of at least 20 EVs to be launched by 2023, the company announced.

In the remarkably terse press release accompanying the announcement, there is no further timeline and there are no market specifics. GM spokesman Kevin Kelly clarified that this is a global plan—potentially meaning that some of the electric vehicles won’t be U.S.-market offerings. A bulk of the effort may be aimed at the China market, which set some especially strong rules last month requiring a certain percentage of fully electric vehicles.

The automaker outlined that it plans to take a two-pronged approach to electrification—meaning that batteries or fuel cells could power its EVs. It teased a wide range of electric vehicles currently in development, including several utility vehicles—all under cover—although it did give a closer look at what it called the SURUS (Silent Utility Rover Universal Superstructure), an electric vehicle riding on a heavy-duty truck frame and powered by a fuel-cell stack.

Earlier this year, Ford laid out plans to introduce 13 electrified models by 2020; among them are some hybrids and plug-in hybrids—like Ford Mustang and F-150 hybrid versions and plug-in hybrid SUVs—as well as fully electric cars developed by a new Team Edison project within the company.

If it sounds as if the seas have parted and all of the old guard in Detroit is now on board with electric cars, there is one definite holdout. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne, in recent remarks to Bloomberg, made it clear he remains pessimistic about EVs as viable and profitable in the near term. Building EVs profitably, however, could prove the key to succeeding, as they are expected to become the majority of the new-vehicle market by 2040.

Three into one does not go and the rival candidates were tripping over themselves into a desperate last effort to schmooze and charm the governing body into handing over the keys to the sport’s showpiece event.

Brian O’Driscoll was there for Ireland, Sebastian Chabal for France and Francois Pienaar for South Africa in the hope of persuading World Rugby that their case was the best.

A recommendation will be made next month which will be rubber-stamped in November as to who will follow Japan as the next hosts.

Ireland, having never hosted the tournament, carry the romantic pull, promising to cast aside political division to deliver a pan-island event which would be guaranteed to be the mother of all parties.

The women’s World Cup, hosted by Ireland in the summer, was seen as a dry run for the men’s event. It showed up some weaknesses – accommodation in Belfast for the final was a spectacular rip-off – but the Irish have responded with guarantees on hotel prices for fans for 2023.

France represents the more hard-headed option with the promise of wheelbarrow loads of euros – a currency World Rugby are instinctively more drawn to.

The £80m England had to guarantee to the governing body in order to stage the 2015 tournament will rise to £92m for Japan in 2019 and then to £120m in 2023. France, with their big, modern stadia in place, are wafting an extra 20 per cent on top.

The last time France staged the event in 2007, it put on a fine tournament, memorable for England’s Jamaican Bobsleigh team run to the final after being whitewashed by the eventual winners South Africa in the group stages.

However it did not hold a candle to the greatest World Cup of all, 1995 in the Republic, so dream-like Hollywood made a film of it.

Nelson Mandela, Pienaar and a rampaging Jonah Lomu in post-apartheid South Africa…it was a storyline as fantastical as it was fantastic and set against Africa’s unique backdrop.

For many reasons, there could never be another World Cup to match that one but it feels like it is approaching the right time to try.

Here then is the solution as to who should win the right to stage the 2023 World Cup. Three into one might not go, but perhaps three into two might.

Football awarded successive World Cups to Russia and Qatar at the same time and the IOC recently did likewise with the 2024 and 2028 Olympics. There is nothing to stop World Rugby doing the same.

The 2019 tournament is to be in Asia so let’s have an Irish World Cup in Europe in 2023 and a South African one in 2027. For rugby it might not mean double the money but it would definitely mean double the fun.
