As announced last year, the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection will bring these two games to the PC for the first time, following the collection's release for the PS5 this past January.

This news lines up with a leak last week that showed a listing for the game on the Epic Games Store with an October 19th release date. This confirmation comes after Sony had delayed the game's release from its original "early 2022" timeline. As you'd expect, there are a host of features relevant to PC players, including ultra widescreen monitor support and a host of graphics adjustment options including texture and model quality, anisotropic filtering, shadows, reflections and ambient occlusion. The UI has also been tweaked to better fit on PC and you can remap all controls as you see fit.

Speaking of controls, you can also play this game wirelessly with the PS4's DualShock 4 controller; if you plug in a PS5 DualSense controller, you'll get more advanced haptic feedback.

If you're interested, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is up for pre-order on Steam and the Epic Games Store for $ 49.99. It's the first Naughty Dog title to hit the PC, but a number of other high-profile Sony exclusives (including Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War) have come to the PC in recent years. And Naughty Dog's latest release, the remade The Last of Us Part I will also be released for the PC, though there's no timeframe just yet.

George IV: Top ten facts about the 19th century king who hated his wife https://briefnews.eu/george-iv-top-ten-facts-about-the-19th-century-king-who-hated-his-wife/ https://briefnews.eu/george-iv-top-ten-facts-about-the-19th-century-king-who-hated-his-wife/#respond Mon, 29 Jan 2018 13:11:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/george-iv-top-ten-facts-about-the-19th-century-king-who-hated-his-wife/

1. Both before and after he became King, George IV was renowned for his reckless spending and dissolute lifestyle.

2. On reaching the age of 21, he received an annual income from his father and parliament in excess of £100,000, worth about £10million today.

3. Despite this, his lavish lifestyle resulted in growing debts which amounted to some £600,000 (£60million in today’s money) when he was 33.

4. In 1795 he married Caroline of Brunswick whom he had never met in order to get a larger grant.

5. George hated his wife and banned her from attending his coronation.

6. He had earlier undergone a marriage ceremony with his mistress Maria Fitzherbert but that was ruled illegal as she was Catholic and he had not obtained the consent of his father George III.

7. George wrote a will leaving one shilling to Caroline and the rest to Maria Fitzherbert.

8. He had at least five other mistresses and probably fathered several illegitimate children.

9. His only legitimate child died before him, so he was succeeded by his younger brother, William IV.

10. Attractive when young, he grew hugely obese weighing 24 stone (152kg) with a 55-inch waist.

Good morning! This morning we wait with bated breath for a phone screen that will heal itself, test out Amazon’s adorable Echo Spot and kick off our year in review coverage.

Good riddance!
2017 year in review

Over the next two weeks, we’ll be looking back on the year that was, and sharing our hopes and predictions for 2018. Join us as we place our bets on AI, algorithms, social-media regulations, green tech, streaming services, robotics, self-driving cars and even space taxis. And, of course, since we’re Engadget, you can expect to hear about the upcoming products and games we’re most excited about.

Accidental.A new polymer could make phone-screen repairs a thing of the past

Researchers in Tokyo have discovered a new polymer that may actually heal itself, potentially leading the way to a future of self-healing phone screens. The research promises a unique hard glass-like polymer called polyether-thioureas, which can heal itself with only hand pressure. This makes it different to other materials that typically need high heat to repair cracks and breaks. The funny part? The special polymer was discovered by mistake by a graduate student, Yu Yanagisawa, who thought the material would become a type of glue.

This alarm clock’s tiny screen belies a big feature set.
Amazon Echo Spot review: as smart as it is cute

If you want Alexa in a device that looks like a cool alarm clock then the Echo Spot is it. Its touchscreen display is also pretty useful, as its adds additional context and visual information, and it’s great for video calls, too. It’s not perfect, especially when $ 20 more can get you the bigger Echo Show, which also has better audio skills. The Echo Spot is great, but we’d hold off a little for a price drop.

Our team’s choice cuts of long-form from the last 12 months.
The best Engadget stories of 2017

It’s been a long year, but beside all the phone reviews, social-media messes and the rest, Engadget has continued to tackle some of the more unusual parts of this tech world. Or just simply calling out political figures’ lack of science comprehension.

Nope, this wasn’t an official port.
There was a fake version of ‘Cuphead’ on the App Store

Early Monday, a fake version of Xbox indie hit Cuphead appeared on Apple’s iOS App Store, with a $ 4.99 price tag and, well, nothing to do with the actual game itself. Apple moved to take down the game before midday ET, but it demonstrates the struggle for both games developers and the iPhone maker when it comes to tackling fakes.

But wait, there’s more…

Google unwraps 19 past Doodle games for its 19th birthday https://briefnews.eu/google-unwraps-19-past-doodle-games-for-its-19th-birthday/ https://briefnews.eu/google-unwraps-19-past-doodle-games-for-its-19th-birthday/#respond Wed, 27 Sep 2017 09:03:17 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/google-unwraps-19-past-doodle-games-for-its-19th-birthday/

Google is no stranger to celebrations. In the past, the festivities have brought new features for Google Photos, and Google Earth, and a montage (with a Rickrolling twist) for YouTube’s tenth anniversary. Today, the party is coming to its Doodle. To mark 19 years of company history, the latest Google Doodle packs 19 surprises from the past. You’ll be able to play a bunch of games, including tic-tac-toe, piñata, and cricket. And access awesome interactive Doodles from the archives, including the lauded DJ and music composition tools launched earlier this year. There’s even a Snake easter egg lurking in the mix, which offers a colorful take on the mobile gaming classic that’s every bit as addictive. Simply spin the wheel to start playing. And, if you don’t like the result, spin again.

Before you know it, you’ll have whiled away the minutes, and hours. And that’s just from sampling a fraction of the treats. Best of all, Pac-Man is also making his return. Back when the game originally landed on the Google home page in 2010, it was an instant success — squeezing 4.82 million hours of play from procrastinators worldwide. Since then, it’s been made a permanent fixture in the Doodles library. Of course, you’d have had to gone looking to find it in the past. Now, it’s back front and center for your gaming pleasure. And, if you’re afraid you’ll get caught playing on your computer, just head to Google.com on your mobile.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

We have some bad news from Toys ‘R’ Us, CCleaner and Equifax, but at least Galaxy S8 owners can disable the Bixby button, and Jerry Seinfeld’s latest stand-up is available on Netflix.

The internet claims another victim.Toys ‘R’ Us files Chapter 11

Between the rise of internet shopping and a crushing debt load, Toys ‘R’ Us is struggling. The company announced it’s filing for bankruptcy protection in the US and Canada but says all of its stores will continue to operate as normal. The Wall Street Journal reports some “underperforming” stores may shut down, while others are revamped to focus on experiences like in-store play areas.

0 to 60 in less than 3.5 seconds.Porsche’s Mission E will be priced to challenge Tesla

Porsche is still a couple of years away from releasing the production version of its Mission E speedster, but Chairman Oliver Blume revealed some key details about the project. When it arrives before the end of 2019, it should have a price similar to the Panamera (between $ 80,000 and $ 90,000), which makes it a competitor for the Tesla Model S 100D and could make it cheaper than the $ 135,000 Ludicrous Mode-equipped P100D. Porsche is also planning for 350kW fast-charging that can give 250 miles of range (out of a possible 300 miles) in just 15 minutes.

Good news, bad news.Galaxy S8 owners can finally disable the Bixby button

They just can’t do anything else with it.

Somehow this keeps getting worseEquifax stock sales prompt DOJ investigation for insider trading

You probably already knew that three Equifax officials sold $ 1.8 million in shares after the company learned of the security breach. The DOJ is investigating that, and while the company says those execs were not aware of this breach when they sold their shares, the story is complicated further now that Bloomberg reports Equifax suffered a separate breach even earlier, in March.

Stop worrying.August’s latest smart locks let you know if you left the door open

August is introducing two new locks, the $ 150 August Smart Lock and the $ 280 August Smart Lock Pro, that both include a sensor to determine whether or not the door is really closed. If it’s ajar, the lock can let you know on your phone, so you never have to wonder again. Oh, and there’s a new doorbell camera that buffers its recordings to capture the seconds leading up to a button press.

That’s how you get ants.Hackers slipped malware into popular PC software CCleaner

Piriform’s CCleaner utility, owned by antivirus provider Avast, was found to be hosting a “multi-stage malware payload” that could install ransomware or keyloggers and further infect targeted computers on command. The company says this backdoor has been removed, and it already forced updates to push some two million users off of the affected version. Still, it may be worthwhile to clear your own cookies in the future.

Will you sign up for CBS All Access? What’s on TV this week

CBS is ready to premiere its new Star Trek series on broadcast television before pushing Discovery as a streaming exclusive, while Netflix brings Jerry Seinfeld (plus Jaden Smith in Neo Yokio) and Amazon drops in a new season of Transparent. Movie fans can choose Wonder Woman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind or Starship Troopers on Ultra HD Blu-ray, while gamers have Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Project Cars 2 incoming.

How was this not already a feature?Gmail finally turns addresses and phone numbers into links

Google has rolled out an update that gives its mail apps the power to turn addresses, phone numbers and email addresses into hyperlinks.

Seinfeld’s first Netflix stand-up special premieres September 19th https://briefnews.eu/seinfelds-first-netflix-stand-up-special-premieres-september-19th/ https://briefnews.eu/seinfelds-first-netflix-stand-up-special-premieres-september-19th/#respond Tue, 22 Aug 2017 18:45:56 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/seinfelds-first-netflix-stand-up-special-premieres-september-19th/

Earlier this year, Netflix announced that Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee series would be moving to it over from Crackle and that Seinfeld would have two stand-up specials appear on the streaming service as well. The first of those specials is now slated to premiere September 19th.

Jerry Before Seinfeld will mix the comedian’s stand-up performance at New York City’s The Comic Strip with videos of him as a child and other material that’s never been aired before. That includes Seinfeld’s collection of legal pads which hold all of the jokes he’s written since 1975. The special will feature some of the key jokes that helped push Seinfeld’s career to where it is today.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee — new shows and all of the old ones — moves to Netflix later this year. You can watch a few clips of the new stand-up special on Instagram and you can check out one of them below.

You go to a party, there’s nobody there. ‘Where’d everybody go?’ ‘They left!’

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Good morning! We have two AR surprises, plus Samsung’s AI assistant and the future of playing D&D.

For business this time.Google Glass is back

Two years ago, Google retreated from its Glass project while promising “the journey doesn’t end here.” Now it’s opening up sales of an improved Glass Enterprise Edition to business customers in need of its transparent hands-free display. It’s lighter, more comfortable, more powerful and has a longer-lasting battery than before. Google didn’t mention how much it costs now, or if there are plans to make another push for consumer adoption, but with several use cases in its pocket, the dream is still alive.

Is it still pen-and-paper?D&D Beyond takes the headache out of pen-and-paper gaming

The current Player’s Handbook and Dungeon Master’s Guide may give you all the information you need to play D&D, but anyone who’s ever used the books can attest to how hard it is to find anything in them. Now Wizards of the Coast is rolling out Dungeons & Dragons Beyond, a website/app with all the rules, monsters and number crunching built-in so you can just play. While there has been digital information available before, it was supplementary — now the website will have everything you need.

Another AI?Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant is ready to help in the US

Ready for more help? Samsung is finally rolling out the delayed voice feature for its Bixby AI on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. Other than understanding natural language questions, the upgraded software should also do a better job of working with third-party apps like Google Maps, and it can read out text messages from Samsung’s official app.

Throw paint, not your phone.‘Splatoon 2’ is almost here and Nintendo’s online apps have launched

When Splatoon 2 arrives later this week, it will be the first game to use Nintendo’s new Online features. The system, which is available in the Americas for free in beta this year, relies on mobile apps for gamers who want to voice chat online. Of course, if you’re more interested in the game, we’ve already given it a spin. According to Sean Buckley, it’s still an addictive multiplayer game that is “everything it needs to be and nothing more,” although the single player campaign comes up a little short.

If you live in Seattle.Amazon’s Meal Kits are already available for some customers

It looks like Amazon is already diving into the prepackaged meal kit market, as some AmazonFresh customers have seen them for sale. The store that sells almost everything appears to be preparing a Blue Apron competitor, which is a scary prospect for the startup. Thanks to Amazon’s delivery network and the recent acquisition of Whole Foods, it has everything necessary to become a dominant player — as long as you’re willing to cook the food yourself.

Cheaper than Glass.Mira’s $ 99 augmented reality headset only needs an iPhone

No smoke, just mirrors.

Hey, good morning!

Monday’s back again. Elon Musk is talking to LA authorities about using his traffic tunnels, we play even more games from E3 2017, and Bill Nye is teaming up with Netflix.

Talks are ‘promising’.Elon Musk says Los Angeles is open to using his traffic tunnels

Musk might just his first boring customer. The tech entrepreneur says he’s having “promising conversations” with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti about using The Boring Company’s technology as part of a larger underground network that would shuttle cars, bikes and people.

Ferris wheels, energy drinks and drumlines.
All the weird things you missed at E3

Here, try some Mystery Drink.

The science guy isn’t quite done debunking myths yet.
Bill Nye will save the world with science and Netflix

Bill Nye’s Netflix talk show is coming back for another season. The streaming platform has released an official teaser for Bill Nye Saves the World’s second season, which the science educator has posted on Facebook. It starts by showing anti-science tweets and those calling Nye a “totalitarian eugenicist in a fake lab coat,” “Bill Lie the Pseudoscience Guy,” a quack and even Satan, to drive home the point that the world needs more saving.

The hero’s next game is more about the man behind the mask than the web slinger.Insomniac’s ‘Spider-Man’ gets what it means to be Peter Parker

When Sony revealed that Insomniac games was working on a PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man game set in an original universe, the specter of another game hung over the announcement — 2004’s Spider-Man 2. This movie tie-in is widely regarded as the game that perfected web swinging, as well as the title that no subsequent Spider-Man game ever lived up to. Creative director Bryan Intihar is aware of the stigma, but he doesn’t seem worried. He’s confident the new game will make players feel like Spider-Man. His goal is more complicated, however: He wants players to feel like Peter Parker.

Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium puts 4K HDR in your hands on June 19th https://briefnews.eu/sonys-xperia-xz-premium-puts-4k-hdr-in-your-hands-on-june-19th/ https://briefnews.eu/sonys-xperia-xz-premium-puts-4k-hdr-in-your-hands-on-june-19th/#respond Wed, 31 May 2017 12:30:45 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/sonys-xperia-xz-premium-puts-4k-hdr-in-your-hands-on-june-19th/

In just a few weeks, you can finally hold Sony’s new high-end, high-performance flagship phone in your hands. You can pre-order Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium in the US through Amazon and Best Buy starting on June 12th, but you can always just purchase it outright when retailers begin selling it on June 19th. When it officially comes out, it’ll become the second commercially available phone to support gigabit LTE after Samsung’s Galaxy S8.

The company says its new Motion Eye system gives the device the power to scan images five times faster than before, making this flagship the first smartphone that can capture slow-motion video at 960FPS. Since the XZ Premium’s 5.5-inch display also runs at full 4K and supports HDR content — and retailers will sell it as an unlocked unit — your wallet will take a hit. One will set you back at least $ 800, depending on the store.

If that’s a bit too much for you, Sony Mobile is also releasing its mid-tier Xperia XA1 in the US. The company doesn’t have a price for it yet, but pre-orders will begin on June 12th. It will be available online on June 21st and will make its way to store shelves on July 2nd. Now, if what you’re waiting for is the Xperia Touch, you’ll want to mark June 16th on your calendar — that’s the day the company starts taking pre-sales for the projector with an interactive surface. It will be exclusively sold at the Sony Square display room at 25 Madison Avenue in New York City for $ 1,700.
