The money is available to those who switch to Halifax, and Martin explained: “Switch to the Halifax current account and you can now get a FREE £125 switching bonus, upped from £75, when you use its seven-day switching service – which means all your direct debits and standing orders are shifted for you, the old account is closed, and any payments to the old bank is redirected for three years.

“I hear great feedback about switching now, and for most the service is easy and hassle-free so don’t be worried.

His advice came after he recommended the account with the best savings rate earlier this week. Martin also had a selection of other deals he shared on This Morning.

Firstly, he reminded viewers of a railcard trick he had put on social media after it went viral.

He said: “Very simply, you can buy a three year 16-25 Young Person’s Railcard (costs £70 and gives a third off most rail fares, anytime) the day before you’re 24th birthday, and as it’s valid for three years you can use it until you’re nearly 27.

“Or you can buy a one year Railcard (costs £30) before your 26th birthday. So tell any 23 or 24 year olds you know, to get it before it’s too late.”

He also had a range of free food and drink offers, and said: “Nothing beats free food and drink, and right now there’s a whole host of free tasty treats available, for relatively little effort.

“Sign up to Krispy Kreme’s newsletter and you’ll get a coupon for a free original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut (norm £1.35-£1.75), to use in Tesco stores with a Krispy Kreme cabinet, as well as at Krispy Kreme stores.

“Download the free KFC ‘Colonel’s Club’ app and you’ll be able to get a free side (two hot wings, small popcorn chicken, regular fries, ice cream sundae or a regular soft drink – norm 80p-£1.70ish). You don’t need to buy anything to get the freebie.

“Download and scan the Greggs rewards app in store, and you can get a free hot drink (any regular-size drink, normally up to £2, no other purchase necessary).

“Sign up for a free Ikea Family card and every time you’re in Ikea you (and anyone with you) can get a free cup of tea or filter coffee at the in-store restaurant (norm £1.35, not on weekends). You don’t need to buy anything to get the free drink. 

“Download the GBK app and share the unique code with a friend (who also needs to download the app) and you’ll both be able to get a free side dish – you can choose from fries, onion rings, corn or slaw (norm £2-£4ish each) – you don’t need to be together or buy anything else to get the freebie.”

Finally, Martin shared the Halfords summer car and bike check offer. He said: “Drive to any Halfords or Halfords Autocentre, and you can currently get a free six-point summer car check, which is valued at around £15. It includes checks to your battery, bulbs, wiper blades, oil, screen wash levels and air conditioning.

“You can also take you bicycle in and get a free bike safety check too – which checks the handlebars, wheels, gears/chain, brakes and saddle. You don’t need to book either of these in advance, and both should take about 15 minutes each. There is no obligation to buy anything, but be prepared that staff might try to upsell you.”

Many people don’t treat it as such, but an overdraft is a debt like any other and fees can be horrendous, according to Martin. 

A constant £200 overdraft could cost you £365 a year, and if you bust the limit they can be worse than payday loans. 

So to cut your overdraft, you have to first cut the cost, so more of your money goes towards cleaning the actual debt. 

Right now you can get a 0 per cent rate and even get paid, helping you slash the overdraft further – and Martin reveals how on the Money Saving Expert website. 

Option one: Get paid £125 to grab a £250 0 per cent overdraft – suitable for those with overdrafts under £400ish. 

Newbies applying via this First Direct  link get a £250 0 per cent overdraft and £125 to switch to it (£100 if you apply direct). 

Use the free £125 to reduce your existing overdraft and then you’ve got time to pay the rest down. 

You must pay in £1,000 a month or there’s a £10 a month fee.

Option two: Get a (potentially) larger 0 per cent overdraft for 12 months – suitable for those who can pay it off with 12 months

New customers to Nationwide’s FlexDirect get a 0 per cent overdraft for a year (50p a day after). 

There’s no set limit as it depends on your credit score, but many have had success. 

Plus if you’ve got a friend who’s already got a Nationwide account, you can both get £100 if you switch via Nationwide’s recommend a friend scheme. 

Option three: Shift overdrafts to special 0 per cent credit cards 

A money transfer card works like a balance transfer, but instead of paying another card off it puts money into your bank, so the overdraft debt is cleared, and you owe the money transfer card instead. 

They’re useful for big overdrafts, but come with a fee.

Money Saving Expert’s overall top pic is Virgin Money which gives accepted customers 32 months 0 per cent for a one-off 2,5 per cent fee of the amount shifted. 

All the accounts require a credit check.

Last week we heard the exciting news that Martin Scorsese‘s The Irishman found a home at Netflix, following a split from a currently risk-averse Paramount Studios. Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Al Pacino are starring in the gangster drama. Considering all the heavy-hitters and special effects involved in the film, it’s not too surprising to learn The Irishman is going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $ 125 million.

After Brad Grey left Paramount, the studio decided against making The Irishman. The epic R-rated gangster movie’s price tag was too risky in their eyes. Netflix, on the other hand, is more than ready to pick up the bill. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Irishman is expected to cost somewhere between $ 120 million and $ 150 million, making it one of Scorsese’s most expensive movies to date. His priciest project, Hugo, cost a reported $ 170 million and sadly didn’t make much more than that at the box-office.

A significant portion of The Irishman‘s budget is going towards de-aging the three leads. De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci will play their characters at the ages of 30, 50, and 70. The film’s producer, Gaston Pavlovich (Silence), made the bold claim it’s going to be like watching De Niro during his Godfather: Part II days:

You don’t use prosthetics, make-up; they have acting and the technology is able to have them go through different time ages without the prosthetics. So we’ve seen some tests and it looks extraordinary. We were able to film Bob and just do a scene. We saw it come down to when he was like 20, 40, 60, so we’re looking forward to that, from that point of view, for The Irishman … Imagine seeing what De Niro looked like in The Godfather: Part II days, that’s pretty much how you’re going to see him again.

Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, who De Niro is playing, killed 25 people and claimed to have murdered Jimmy Hoffa, who went missing in 1975. Steve Zaillian (Schindler’s List) wrote The Irishman‘s script based on Charles Brandt’s book ‘I Heard You Paint Houses,’ which were the first words Hoffa said to Sheeran. When Sheeran returned home from WWII, he turned to hustling and a life of crime.

A 2019 release is expected for The Irishman, but before Scorsese and everybody, possibly including Bobby Cannavale, can start principal photography, there’s a matter involving foreign sales that needs to be resolved. Before Netflix got involved, STX Entertainment made a $ 50 million deal for international rights, which they then sold to foreign distributors. The Hollywood Reporter writes they’ll either have to step out of the picture or make a legal claim, although Scorsese wrote a personal letter to Netflix’s content chief, Ted Sarandos, letting him know the situation can be straightened out.
