The following contains all the spoilers from Hawaii Five-0‘s series finale, which aired April 3 on CBS. Just as CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 reboot on Friday night said a parting aloha to the airwaves after 10 seasons, Steve McGarrett said an emotional goodbye to Danny, Adam, Lou, Tani and much of the rest of his ohana. Picking up where the penultimate hour left off, the series finale saw Danny, fresh off escaping a beatdown at Steve’s house, get carjacked by Daiyu Mei/Mrs. Wo Fat’s henchmen, who then set his poor, poor car ablaze (giving Five-0 a fleeting scare). While Five-0 closed in on their abducted team member’s whereabouts, a beaten and bloodied Danny mustered the wherewithal to hoist his chained-up self to the rafters above and release his restraints. He then got the drop on one captor and put bullets in four total, before taking a bullet himself, just Steve arrived on the scene. After a touch-and-go surgery, McGarrett stayed by his best friend’s bedside, holding his hand, until Danny came to. When the rest of Five-0 got a bead on Daiyu Mei — after she and her goons raided Doris McGarrett’s empty crypt of the millions Mom left behind for her son — a final shootout took place on and around cargo containers at the docks. At one point, it appeared that Daiyu Mei had possibly crushed her husband’s killer beneath a toppled cargo container, but Steve resurfaced behind her, assault weapon drawn. Unlike Daiyu Mei, Steve showed his adversary mercy and did not put her down on the spot, prompting the widow to liken his principles to those Wo Fat observed of John McGarrett, in a new flashback to a phone conversation the two men had prior to Victor Hesse killing Steve’s dad. In that same flashback, we learned that John had been investigating the possibility that wife Doris had faked her death, and that was the Champ box mystery he hoped his son would one day solve. One week later, at the beach chairs, a recuperating Danny touts Hawaii’s “beautiful beaches and plenty of sand” to get Steve to stay, to no avail. “What exactly is it that you’re looking for?” asks Danny. “Peace,” says Steve. So, what, Steve is going to now “walk the Earth like the dude from Kung Fu, looking for answers?” “Something like that,” he says. Danny laments that “it feels like my main dude is leaving me,” but McGarrett makes clear, “This isn’t goodbye forever,” and the BFFs hug and exchange ILYs. Then, lest you think you’ve pumped out your final tears, Steve fields goodbyes at the house from Lou (“You saved my life when you met me”), Adam (“Thank you for always seeing the good in me”), Tani, Noelani, Quinn (“Thank you for giving me a family”), Junior (“Hooyah!”) and new friend Lincoln Cole, to whom Steve says: “Do me a favor — hold down the fort for me.” Steve then turns to everyone and says, “Aloha…. A Hui Hou (Until we meet again),” before walking out the door. Then, in a very final sequence, we Steve boarding a plane to… somewhere… where one last surprise awaits (and is detailed here). CLICK ON OVER TO PAGE 2 for our post mortem Q&A with H50 showrunner Peter M. Lenkov, who clears the air on McGarrett’s departure, the goodbyes we did not get, and much more.

Writer/Director Rawson Marshall Thurber was on a Television Critics Association panel for his new YouTube comedy series Ryan Hanson Solves Crimes on Television. After the panel, he spoke with /Film about his upcoming film projects. He’ll make Skyscraper with Dwayne Johnson next, but he’s still attached to a remake of The Cannonball Run.
“Cannonball is about to be written by Tom Lennon and Ben Garant, so we’ll see if that comes in,” Thurber said. “If it comes together, I’d love to go make that.”
The two Cannonball Run movies were madcap all-star comedies about drivers in a wacky race, with a cast that included Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore and Jackie Chan. While we live in an age where auto stunts have gotten so extreme that many fans legitimately hope The Fast and the Furious goes into space, Thurber said the new Cannonball could benefit from those stunts, but won’t be another Fast and the Furious movie.
“I think we’re living in a post or current Fast and Furious world,” Thurber said. “So I don’t think Cannonball can out-Fast and Furious the Fast and the Furious. That’s its own thing, but we definitely want to harness that with the fun of Oceans 11 and put those together. It’ll have to be a different thing than Fast, but should have some great car action, obviously.”
But first there’s Skyscraper, starring Dwayne Johnson, which shoots in a week. “I flew in just for this and we start shooting a week from Monday,” Thurber said. “After that, with any luck, it’ll be season two of this if it works. Right now I’m focused on Skyscraper with Dwayne.”
Thurber confirmed that Skyscraper is essentially Die Hard…in a building. “Yes, it’s exactly Die Hard in a building,” Thurber said. “Die Hard’s one of my all time favorite films and it owes a lot to Die Hard of course, but also Towering Inferno, Cliffhanger, a few other pictures.”
The original Die Hard was so successful, other movies became described as “Die Hard in a…” So Under Siege was Die Hard on a boat, Passenger 57 was Die Hard on a plane and Speed was Die Hard on a bus. “There was a great comedy script out there called Die Hard in a Building,” Thurber said. “It made the rounds. It was never going to get made. It was mostly a good joke.”
Johnson’s last film with Thurber, Central Intelligence, was a comedy that poked fun at his heroic image. Thurber intends Skyscraper to be a straight action movie.
“Unless I mess it up, it’s not going to be funny,” Thurber said. “It’ll have moments of levity like Die Hard does, but it’s a straight action picture. I was editing Central Intelligence and I came up with the idea and I called up Dwayne. I pitched it to him and he said, ‘I love it. I’m in.’ and that was it. It originated with me, but he wanted to do it and we’re off.”
A sequel to the Thurber-directed comedy We’re the Millers is still in the works. The script is done, but reuniting the cast is challenging.
“We have a great script from Adam Sztykiel, who created Undatable and just wrote Rampage for Dwayne,” Thurber said. “I think it’s just a scheduling issue. Jen [Aniston] and Jason [Sudeikis], it’s tough to get everybody and now Emma [Roberts] is a success and Will Poulter. It’s just about getting everybody together.”
Thurber fit the pilot to Ryan Hanson Solves Crimes On Television right between Central Intelligence and Skyscraper. “I finished Central and that came out,” he said. “Then I wrote this and managed to get it green lit right before I went to go prep Skyscraper.”
Ryan Hanson Solves Crimes On Television, starring Ryan Hanson as himself and Samira Wiley, premieres this fall on YouTube Red.

17 years after Steven Soderbergh gave us one of the most charismatic casts to grace the screen in the 21st century with Ocean’s 11, we’ll see a new team of thieves form in Ocean’s Eight. Director Gary Ross put together a hell of a crew, too, with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter. One member of Danny Ocean’s gang will appear with them in the film, and now another actor from Soderbergh’s trilogy is now confirmed to join in on the fun.
It’s a cameo, so it’s a spoiler, but if you want to know who else is making an Ocean’s Eight cameo, find out below.
Actor, director, and writer Carl Reiner (Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid) is returning as Saul Bloom, the remarkable con man who spent a little time in Saratoga. Whatever the part, he could play it for Danny Ocean. He has less of a job to do in Ocean’s Eight, but Reiner told Vanity Fairy he enjoyed his scene immensely with Sandra Bullock:
Yeah, Ocean’s Eight, I think they’re calling it. And I got to work with my favorite actress, Sandra Bullock. I did one little scene with her, and it was such a pleasure. She’s a work of nature.
Joining him is Linus Caldwell (Matt Damon), who grew so much over the course of the original trilogy. There were rumors early on Danny Ocean might make an appearance as well, but apparently, it was decided it’d be best to focus on his cousin Debbie Ocean (Bullock) instead of having too many cameos. Honestly, though, it wouldn’t be surprising if Clooney also showed up for a hot second. In the film, Debbie Ocean and the seven are trying to pull off a major heist in New York City at the Met Gala. Their mark is played by Damian Lewis (Billions). Ocean’s Eight co-stars Dakota Fanning, Katie Holmes, James Corden, and Richard Armitage.
Soderbergh is a producer on the movie and his collaborations with Ross go 20 years back. The Logan Lucky director did some second-unit work on The Hunger Games, and Ross lent him a hand on Ocean’s 11 with some dialogue. Soderbergh created such a fun, vibrant, and cinematic space for great movie stars to charm the pants off us. We don’t see that light tone perfected often enough in movies, but Ross calls his movie “an extension and a continuation” of what Soderbergh achieved with his trilogy. “We’re different filmmakers, obviously, so there will be those differences,” the director told us, “but one of the things I’m drawn to is the amazing tone Steven was able to create, and we discuss that a lot.”
Ocean’s Eight opens in theaters June 8, 2018.

When Steven Soderbergh first read Rebecca Blunt’s script, Logan Lucky, it was to make a suggestion for who should direct. This was in the fall of 2014 after the Traffic and Magic Mike director announced his retirement from moviemaking. After reading Blunt’s script, though, Soderbergh was inspired enough to return to features.
His first theatrical release since 2013’s Side Effects comes out this August. Logan Lucky is another heist movie from Soderbergh, but he describes it as an “inversion of an Ocean’s movie,” without the gloss and cool factor. Below, the director shares some Logan Lucky plot details and discusses his return to directing movies.
The Logan siblings have big plans for an upcoming Nascar race, the Coca-Cola 600. Before the day of the event, Jimmy (Channing Tatum), Clyde (Adam Driver) and Mellie Logan (Riley Keough) are going to try to rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway. They’re maybe not the best of the best (they’re not the kind of team Danny Ocean would assemble), but at least they’re not alone. The siblings will get a helping hand from Joe Bang (Daniel Craig), a man with a knack for blowing open vaults and great (and appropiate) name.
Before they can all pull off the heist, they’ll face another hurdle: getting Joe Bang out of prison.
According to Entertainment Weekly, that’s the basic gist of Logan Lucky. Soderbergh found the Logan family’s heist compared to his past work “familiar” but “different enough”:
On the most obvious level, it’s the complete inversion of an Ocean’s movie. It’s an anti-glam version of an Ocean’s movie. Nobody dresses nice. Nobody has nice stuff. They have no money. They have no technology. It’s all rubber band technology, and that’s what I thought was fun about it. It seemed familiar to me, but different enough. The landscape, the characters, and the canvass were the complete opposite of an Ocean’s film. What was weird is that I was working as a producer on Ocean’s Eight while we were shooting Logan, and it was kind of head-spinning. That’s like a proper Ocean’s film. This is a version of an Ocean’s movie that’s up on cement blocks in your front yard.
After reading the script, Soderbergh couldn’t “bear the thought of somebody else” directing Logan Lucky. Following the director’s brief retirement from movies, he turned his attention towards television by directing two seasons of The Knick and the Red Oaks pilot, and executive producing The Girlfriend Experiment and Godless. The fast-paced experience of The Knick reminded Soderbergh of what he liked about his job:
First, I was not going to be directing at all and just really take a sabbatical. Right as we were going to Cannes with Behind the Candelabra, which was in my mind going to be the official start of my enforced vacation, I got the script for The Knick. So I went from not doing anything and exploring my future as a painter to starting to shoot a ten-hour television show in four months. The Knick scared me. We had to shoot 600 pages in 73 days. I’ve worked on some films with pretty aggressive schedules. This was on another order of magnitude, and I was terrified. This was something that was keeping me up at nights, wondering if this was really too big a reach. About a week in, I realized that there was a rhythm that was actually really exhilarating to be had and we were going to make it. I was sitting there on set, realizing that this is the job that I should be doing. This is my job. I should be directing stuff. Nobody’s waiting around for my paintings. So I kind of flipped a switch. I got reconnected with what I like about the job. For a while, I was just very, very happy to be working in that form. I loved working with a ten-hour canvass. It was really fun, and I wasn’t really thinking about movies… until this script came in over the transom. If it hadn’t, I think everything would be TV oriented.
One part of the job Soderbergh is still not a fan of is the cost of distributing a movie these days. With Logan Lucky, Bleecker Street and Soderbergh’s Fingerprint Releasing are distributing the movie on 2,500 to 3,000 screens. They’re taking a different approach to distribution, which you can read more about at EW, but the director wants to answer the question: “Can you do what the studios normally do from a distribution standpoint with a lot less resources and with a much better economic structure for the people who made the film?”
Like an Ocean’s film, Logan Lucky is stacked with talent. The movie co-stars Katherine Waterston, Dwight Yoakam, Seth MacFarlane, Macon Blair, Hilary Swank, Sebastian Stan, and Katie Holmes. Here’s a pic of the Logan siblings courtesy of EW:

Logan Lucky opens in theaters August 18.
