Sorry, Newsroom fans: Atlantis Cable News won’t be going live anytime soon. During an appearance on The Late Late Show Monday night, The Newsroom creator Aaron Sorkin succinctly put an end to recent rumors that he’ll be reviving his award-winning HBO drama. “I wish the show was on the air now,” Sorkin admitted to host James Corden, who suggested that The Newsroom is more relevant than ever in 2019. “I would love to be writing it now. But there are other things coming up. I have no plans to return to anything I’ve done.” Rumors of a potential Newsroom return began on Feb. 13, after series co-star Olivia Munn told ETOnline that she’d “been having conversations with Sorkin” about bringing the show back. “He’s very busy, but we have very high hopes that it would be able to come together, hopefully,” Munn said. “There’s been so much that has happened in the news and in media that we could really speak on, and it’d really be interesting to see what his take would be on it and what The Newsroom would do today.” During its three-season run on HBO, The Newsroom earned star Jeff Daniels an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and the show itself was nominated for Best Drama Series at the 2013 Golden Globes. Watch Sorkin’s Late Late Show appearance above — the Newsroom talks begin at 1:15 — then drop a comment and tell us: Are you bummed the show won’t be coming back, after all? The UFC 232 bantamweight bout between Russia’s Petr Yan and Brazil’s Silva de Andrade in California had to be stopped after the second round when the Brazilian’s corner refused to continue the action. Nicknamed ‘No Mercy,’ the 25-year-old former ACB bantamweight champion Yan was making his debut on American soil at UFC 232 card on Saturday and, once again, proved his status as one of Russia’s top prospects. Starting the fight at a fast pace, he established his boxing from the beginning of the first round. While the Brazilian looked to fire back, Yan’s technique was noticeably smoother and allowed him to control his opponent. ‘No Mercy’ then displayed his grappling skills, utilizing the front headlock and dominating Silva de Andrade on the ground in the second part of round 2. The Russian made the most of his opportunity, landing punishing strikes on his grounded opponent whenever he could as he continued to display his dominance on the canvas. A big elbow also left de Andrade with a cut above the eye as Yan finished the round hammering the Brazilian with a vicious ground and pound, turning the fight into a bloodbath. Silva de Andrade’s corner decided to protect their man from any further injury and spare him another round of punishment, by throwing in the towel and pulling him out of the fight. ‘No más!’ was the phrase that his cornermen said to UFC officials in the second intermission and it needed no translation for fight fans. Yan has, with this win, earned his second stoppage victory in the UFC and moved to a 3-0 record inside the American promotion. After the win he took the opportunity to call out bantamweight knockout artist John ‘Hands of Stone’ Lineker. When reporters asked Macron on Thursday if the problem with Trump was that he “didn’t care” about being isolated, Macron struck a hostile tone, reminding the media that no president “is forever.”
“The six countries of the G7 without the United States, are a bigger market taken together than the American market,” Macron said, standing alongside Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “Maybe the American president doesn’t care about being isolated today, but we don’t mind being six, if needs be.”
Macron’s comments come as the leaders of the G7 countries are preparing to meet at a trade summit in Canada, which analysts expect will turn into a showdown on trade deals, given Trump’s repeated insistence that the US has the “worst trade deals ever made.”
The French leader also slammed Trump’s recent decision to impose import tariffs on steel and aluminum from Europe, Canada and Mexico.
“I would like to say Mr. Trump that the measures taken are counterproductive. We can’t engage in a trade war against friends,” he said while branding the US move as “unilateral and illegal.”
“A trade war doesn’t spare anyone. It will start first of all to hurt US workers, and the cost of raw materials will rise, and industries will become less competitive,” Macron warned.
Macron had previously attempted to strike a more conciliatory tone with Trump and was even dubbed the “Trump whisperer” by some in the media. Now, he went on to say there would be no “world hegemony” and that the six other countries, excluding the US, represent “a real force at the international level” today.
Isn’t it Ironic? Getting ready to go to the G-7 in Canada to fight for our country on Trade (we have the worst trade deals ever made), then off to Singapore to meet with North Korea & the Nuclear Problem…But back home we still have the 13 Angry Democrats pushing the Witch Hunt!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 7, 2018
The increasingly hostile public tone follows a phone conversation last week between Macron and Trump, which sources told CNN was “really bad” and “terrible.” Asked to comment on those reports, Macron compared the call to “sausage-making” and quoted the 19th-century Prussian statesman Otto von Bismarck, who famously said that “if we explained to people how sausages were made, it’s unlikely they’d keep eating them.”
“So I like it when people see the finished meal, but I’m not convinced the kitchen commentary helps with delivering the meal or eating it,” Macron said.
Despite early hopes, Macron has not had the influence on Trump that some were expecting. He was forced to watch on as the president dropped out of the Paris climate accord and tore up the Iran nuclear deal, which Europe had desperately hoped the US would abide by. Trump’s move to impose tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum from the European Union, Canada and Mexico seems to have been the last straw, however.
Maybe it all started to go downhill during a French state visit to Washington in April, when Trump publicly brushed a “little piece of dandruff” off the French president’s jacket, announcing to reporters in the room that it was just an attempt to “make him perfect.”
Trump should not prevent ‘other people’ from keeping Iran deal
Macron also said today, that the US should not prevent other nations from keeping the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, warning Washington against pushing Iran itself out of the agreement.
“If you are not comfortable with the agreement [on Iran] signed by your predecessor, do not prevent other people from keeping it and do not push Iran out of it. That is the best option we have today,” Macron said during the joint press conference with Trudeau.
However, the French leader apparently did not also rule out amending the deal by what he called reaching a “broader agreement” with the Islamic Republic, which would particularly cover its activities in the region. “We will have to work all together on a broader agreement with Iran and [other] countries in the region, our allies,” he said, apparently referring to the Gulf monarchies.
“We have to look at the future there, we have to look at what happens in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon and we have to find a way to work in this extremely tense context,” he added. At the same time, the president also praised Trump’s decision to hold a meeting with the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
“We will all be behind him [Trump] and will support him in this essential initiative and in the fight for the global denuclearization,” Macron said, commenting on the issue, adding the caveat that he wanted Trump to be “credible on the nuclear situation in Iran” as well.

“Yes, the players can have their wives and family come to visit them at the World Cup. Each player will have a room to himself so the family can come on days when we are not preparing for games or on matchdays,“ Rohr told a news briefing in the town of Uyo, as cited by the Nigerian sports daily Complete Sports. “However, I won’t allow them to have Russian girls, no, no, no. Only captain Mikel who has a Russian partner can come with her.”
Nigerian players were not the only ones to be given instructions on how to deal with Russian women during the World Cup. Argentinians were handed a whole handbook earlier, although it was much less prohibitive and more detailed than Rohr’s strict ban.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) handed out pamphlets on ‘Russian language and culture,’ which included a part on ‘What to do to have a chance with a Russian girl.’ Advice included being clean, making her feel special and avoiding “stupid questions about sex.” It also said that Russian women like men who take the initiative, and warned that although Russia has a lot of beautiful women, “not every girl will be suitable for you.”
According to some Argentine journalists, the handbooks have since been returned, and the more controversial pages were taken out.

The Countryfile host travelled to Portland’s coastal cliffs to see if she could catch a sight of a swallow migrating back to Britain.
In order to get the best view of the birds, she joined Eddie Young on a porta-ledge which was set up 100 ft above crashing waves.
Eddie regularly takes people over the edge of the cliff in order to watch the birds flying above.
And in tonight’s Countryfile Anita faced her fears and joined him on the ledge as she abseiled down the cliff.
“I’m looking at you and I’m smiling because I’m slightly delirious,” Anita told Eddie.
“That’s a sheer cliff face.”
Eddie assured her that her fears were “completely natural” as she bravely made her way down to ledge.
Once she reached Eddie Anita exclaimed that the view was incredible.
“I’m hanging on the edge of a cliff on a bed, I can’t believe where we are,” she noted.
“This is a perspective I’ve never seen in life before.”
But viewers were quick to note that they would not be joining Anita on the edge of the cliff.
One fan of the BBC show commented: “@BBCCountryfile @itsanitarani rather you than me, 100ft up on the side of a cliff #countryfile.”
Another added: “No f**king chance. No way. Never gonna volunteer to hang off a cliff like that. Crazy people. #countryfile.”
“#Countryfile Oh my goodness. That looks amazing but so scary,” a third wrote.
Someone else continued: “#countryfile Why not just sit on the top?”
A fifth simply continued: “Careful Anita #countryfile.”
Tonight’s episode also saw Ellie Harrison meet the designer who is creating a celebratory 30th anniversary Countryfile garden for the Hampton Court Flower Show.
Meanwhile, John craven explored the legacy of the Edwardian naturalist and photographer Emma Turner.
Countryfile airs Sunday on BBC One at 7pm.
Fox is shutting down The X-Files — for now at least. In a conference call with reporters early Monday, network co-chairman and CEO Gary Newman revealed that “there are no plans to do another season at the moment.” His remarks come two months after the conclusion of the show’s 11th season, which leading lady Gillian Anderson previously announced would be her last.
RT Arabic correspondents have visited one of the main targets of the US-led missile attack on Syria, the Scientific Studies and Research Center in the Barzeh district in northern Damascus. The three-story building was pelted with 57 Tomahawk missiles launched from US warships and 19 air-to-surface missiles, the Pentagon said.
The massive bombardment left it lying in ruins, with its walls and roof almost completely collapsed and lab equipment scattered around.
The morning after the strike, several media outlets, including RT, AFP, CBS News and others were given a tour to the former research facility, now little more than a pile of rubble.
Said Said, an engineer at the facility, told RT Arabic that the very fact that such a trip was possible should serve as an evidence that no chemical weapons program was run at the site.
“You can see for yourself that nothing has happened. I’ve been here since 5:00 a.m. No signs of weapons-grade chemicals,” he said. The researcher said he had worked at the facility for decades, and it used to develop medicine and household chemicals.
Speaking with AFP, Said said that the center’s work mainly revolved around devising antidotes to scorpion and snake venoms, as well as testing food, medicine and children’s toys for safety.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) had visited the site several times and never found any traces of banned chemicals. Since Syria joined the Chemical Weapons Convention under a deal brokered by Russia and the US in 2013, the UN chemical watchdog repeatedly confirmed its full compliance with its obligations to dismantle and remove its chemical stockpiles.
In June 2014, the OPCW declared Syria free of chemical weapons.
Said confirmed that the inspectors “several times visited the site with a thorough inspection.” He noted that the OPCW, as well as all inspection team members, received “major assistance” from the facility’s employees during the raids.
“We even provided them with a special place where they could collect and pack test samples taken during the inspection,” he told RT.
The inspectors, he told AFP, would stay in the rooms on the upper floor and use the laboratory equipment, and the staff was “cooperating with them completely.”
Being a civilian research center, the staff did not believe it would be identified as the primary target for an attack.
“As we work in civilian pharmaceutical and chemical research, we did not expect that we would be hit,” Said told AFP. The allegations that that Barzeh was an integral part of Syria’s chemical program were “totally incorrect,” he stressed, speaking to CBS News.
The Pentagon said that it hit three targets in Syria, two military bases and the Barzeh facility, alleging that all three were pillars of the Syrian chemical weapons.
Announcing the strikes, US General Kenneth McKenzie said that the US military “believe that by hitting Barzeh, in particular, we’ve attacked the heart of the Syrian weapons program.”
However, reports by the UN’s chemical watchdog, the latest of which was filed just a month ago, suggest otherwise.
The report on the first inspection that was conducted between 26 February and 5 March 2017 says that “the inspection team did not observe any activities inconsistent with obligations under the Convention,” noting that Damascus had provided unimpeded access to the inspectors “to all selected areas.”
The follow-up inspection, carried out in November, did not find any incriminating evidence either.
The March 2018 report reiterates: “As stated in previous reports, all of the chemicals declared by the Syrian Arab Republic that were removed from its territory in 2014 have now been destroyed.”

The telecommunications company Sinclair Broadcast Group is standing by its decision to run controversial promos across dozens of the local TV stations it owns.
Sinclair — the largest owner of television stations in the United States — has recently come under fire for the promos, in which local news anchors read a scripted message touting their “quality, balanced journalism” and attack other media outlets that “publish the same fake stories without checking facts first.”
The Pakistani government, led by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, is set to convene the emergency meeting shortly after US President Donald Trump said in a tweet that Pakistan had provided “nothing but lies and deceit” in return for vast amount of financial aid from Washington over the past 15 years.

In the tweet, Trump said the US “has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools.” The government in Islamabad gives “safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help,” the US president stated, adding: “No more!”

Apart from the emergency cabinet meeting, there will also be a parliamentary meeting to craft a joint strategy over the issue, Pakistan Today reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Pakistan’s army leadership is also set to meet soon, as the National Security Committee convenes an emergency meeting to be attended by top military officials, as well as high-ranked civil officials, according to the newspaper.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif took to Twitter to fire back at Trump’s outburst, saying that Pakistan would soon respond. “We will reveal the truth to the entire world. We will separate fact from fiction,” he wrote.
We will respond to President Trump’s tweet shortly inshallah…Will let the world know the truth..difference between facts & fiction..

Speaking to local media, he accused the US of aiding and abetting terrorists that were making incursions into Pakistan. “US forces based in Afghanistan also overlooked safe havens of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) which has killed thousands of Pakistanis,” he told a private TV channel, referring to a Taliban-affiliated militant group based in Pakistan’s volatile region bordering Afghanistan, as cited by the newspaper.
On Tuesday, Pakistan also summoned US Ambassador David Hale, the Deccan Herald reported, citing an embassy spokesman who confirmed that the diplomat had visited the Foreign Ministry but offered no details, adding: “We don’t have any comment on the substance of the meeting.”
After the 9/11 attacks, Washington forged a strategic alliance with Islamabad to help its fight against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants. Pakistan also enjoys certain privileges as one of 16 US ‘Non-NATO Major Allies.’
However, relations between Washington and Islamabad began to sour after Trump took office. Last August, he unveiled the US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia, which slammed Pakistan for “sheltering terrorists” and threatened to reduce aid to the country if it continues to “harbor criminals and terrorists.”
At that time, Washington also decided to withhold $ 255 million in military assistance until Pakistan did more to combat terrorism. Islamabad responded to the move, saying it did not need the US aid.
Islamabad also dismissed US accusations of turning a blind eye to Islamist insurgency and lambasted Washington for neglecting civilians who have been killed on its soil because of American drone strikes.

Robert Knepper will remain a cast member on The CW’s iZombie, after the show’s producers conducted an internal investigation of the actor’s conduct on set.
Knepper faces accusations of violent sexual assault by five different women that span three decades, but Warner Bros. TV tells our sister site Deadline that their inquiry, which involved members of the iZombie cast and crew, “found no evidence of wrongdoing on the set of the show.” (They made no comment about the aforementioned allegations, however, which all occurred before Knepper’s time on iZombie.)
The full statement from Warner Bros. TV reads as follows: “We were deeply concerned about recent allegations regarding Robert Knepper. As a result, we conducted an internal inquiry with some of the cast and crew of iZombie. We found no evidence of wrongdoing on the set of the show. We have taken and will continue to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all involved, which is our top priority.”
