On Thursday, President Donald Trump implored the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice to take a closer look at the “outrageous” Jussie Smollett case, referring to the Empire star’s recent legal saga as “an embarrassment to our Nation!” Trump’s tweet comes just two days after prosecutors formally dropped charges against Smollett, who on March 8 was indicted on multiple felony counts for the alleged staging of a hate crime against himself in January. After Smollett was relieved of all charges, Chicago PD Superintendent Eddie Johnson, who previously criticized Smollett after evidence suggested that he staged the attack against himself, maintained that justice had not been served. “[Smollett] chose to hide behind secrecy and broker a deal to circumvent the judicial system,” Johnson said. “It’s Mr. Smollett who committed this hoax, period… If he wanted to clear his name, the way to do that was in a court of law.” Democratic Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel was also fired up in the wake of the dropped charges. “[Smollett] did this all in the name of self-promotion,” he alleged. “This is a whitewash of justice.” In the wake of Tuesday’s stunning turn of events, 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment put out a joint statement, which read, “Jussie Smollett has always maintained his innocence and we are gratified that all charges against him have been dismissed.” Later on, Smollett’s TV mom, Taraji P. Henson, said she was “happy that the truth has finally been set free, because I knew it all along… We’re all happy for him, and thank God the truth prevailed.” Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin joined Lorraine Kelly on her ITV chat show this morning to discuss his upcoming show All Star Musicals. However it wasn’t long before talk turned to Kevin’s win on the popular BBC series alongside Stacey Dooley last year. Lorraine commented: “You were so, what I love is your passion, you were so happy.” “We just didn’t expect it,” Kevin explained. “We thought Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell were going to win, we were convinced.” “Joe was so good and so lovely,” he continued. The 36-year-old went on to reveal the reason why he believed he and Stacey wouldn’t lift the coveted Glitterball trophy. “We just thought that was that as we were bottom of the leaderboard at the end of the final,” Kevin noted. “When Tess called out our names it was genuine shock. I dropped down to the floor and Stacey’s mum invaded the pitch.” When asked if he had any ideas who his next partner would be, Kevin admitted he was keen to get Lorraine on the show. “I reckon, I know you’ve been saying to me you’d never do that but I reckon I could teach you to dance,” Kevin said. However, he noted he may not win as no professional has triumphed two years in a row. “Not in a row no. Aliona has won the Glitterall twice but no one has done it twice in a row,” Kevin commented. The star also opened up about his marriage with fellow professional dancer Karen, which came to an end last year. “We’re really good friends,” he told the host. “I think cause we’ve still been dancing together, we did a tour together and were both on Strictly. “It didn’t have to be argumentative, we thought let’s stay friends and work through it. It’s all good, we’re all fine. “You know you’re always going to have love for each other.” Later on the show, Call The Midwife star Laura Main teased she could sign up for the next series. She joked she wanted to partner up with Kevin in the hope of helping him to win again. Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 8.30am. Kym Marsh will be departing Coronation Street this year after deciding it was the “right time” to leave the popular ITV programme. The 42-year-old actress, who plays Michelle Connor in the drama series, has been on the show for 13 years. She was originally cast for a cameo role, but went on to star in several hard-hitting storylines over the years. Announcing her resignation, the TV star said: “It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time.” She went on to tell The Sun: “When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later.” According to the publication, Coronation Street producers are desperate for her to stay on as feisty Michelle. Executive producer John Whiston said: “Kym has done a fantastic job. She has brought incredible heart and humanity to some hugely important stories. “We will be really sad to lose her when she goes but totally understand that, after dedicating herself to the show for so long she now fancies trying something else.” Kym will leave the series later this year, however, show bosses have decided not to kill off her character. Although she is yet to leave the soap, Kym has already teased her return to the ITV series. “This isn’t the last you’ve heard of Michelle Connor, she’ll be back!” she exclaimed. “I can’t wait to see what the writers have in store for the future.” The soap star’s announcement comes days after she spoke about the 10th anniversary of her son Archie’s death. Archie, who she had with then-partner Jamie Lomas, died moments after she gave birth in February 2009 after he was born 18 weeks early. The former Hear’Say singer admitted she was “inconsolable” with grief on the anniversary of his death this year. In her recent OK! Magazine column, she said: “When I opened my eyes on the morning of his anniversary, I was inconsolable for a while. “I was more emotional this year, maybe it’s because it’s been a decade. Some years I cope better but this year wasn’t one of them.” Kym’s eldest daughter Emilie, 21, is currently expecting her first child and she revealed she found “comfort” on the anniversary after hearing her unborn grandson’s heartbeat for the first time. “Emilie happened to have an antenatal appointment in the afternoon and she asked me to go along with her and hearing my grandson’s heartbeat gave me a lot of comfort,” she explained. Coronation Street continues tonight on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm. DJ Martin Solveig has issued an apology after asking Ada Hegerberg, the first-ever recipient of the women’s Ballon d’Or, to twerk onstage, claiming it was a “bad joke” and that the player herself understood his remarks as such. French musician was co-hosting the plush Paris awards bash with former pro David Ginola when Norway and Olympique Lyonnais striker Hegerberg was announced the winner of the inaugural award. Inexplicably, Solveig then asked the 23-year-old “do you know how to twerk” in a suggestive manner. A shocked Hegerberg could not hide her discomfort and displeasure, shaking her head and giving a defiant “no” and walking off. Astonishingly, the two hosts found the comments and reaction hilarious, and laughed heartily as she made her exit. The room groaned collectively, and Kylian Mbappe seemed dumbfounded. Sincere apologies to the one I may have offended. My point was : I don’t invite women to twerk but dance on a Sinatra song. This is the crap female athletes deal with on a daily basis around the world.pic.twitter.com/y2TLe3v4u9 — Grant Wahl (@GrantWahl) December 3, 2018 Stephen Colbert on Wednesday addressed the news that Vincent “Vinnie” Favale, the senior vice president of talent at CBS, had been placed on administrative leave following multiple allegations of using sexual and homophobic language in the workplace. The Late Show host tackled the damning report following his first commercial break (which you can watch here, beginning at the 10:20 mark), referring to the Favale situation as another example of “powerful men protecting other men in power.” “An article came out on CNN today about an executive at CBS who used to be a liaison to this show,” Colbert said. “He basically came with the building when I got this show, and he used to be around here a lot. About six months into this show, some of our employees said they were uncomfortable with some of the things that he said, so we took their complaints to HR. They investigated, twice, but I don’t really know what, if anything, happened. It seemed like someone was protecting this guy. I don’t know who it was. We eventually convinced the network to make a change. “I’m grateful to CNN for writing this article, because the press is not the enemy of the people,” Colbert continued. “This is why you want a free press. This is why you want investigative journalism. It’s to make sure that government and companies and people are accountable for their actions.” The CNN report included accusations by nine current and former CBS employees, who either witnessed or later heard about Favale making inappropriate remarks. In one particular instance, Favale allegedly told a coworker that he “got four erections” while watching singer Jennifer Hudson rehearse for a 2015 appearance on The Late Show. He is also said to have made derogatory comments about Colbert’s sexuality. The businesswoman, who supports Remaining in the European Union, claimed a no deal Brexit would be “catastrophic” before claiming “very few people” voted for the “mess” Britain is in in its negotiations. Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women, Ms Meaden said: “I respect democracy and I value a democracy beyond anything. So I actually started out saying ‘actually it was a vote and we voted to Leave so that’s it’.” But she added: “This time has gone on and we’ve moved from sort of forecast to fact. “We are now staring at what could possibly be a no deal, which would be catastrophic.” When asked if she wants a second Brexit referendum, Ms Meaden said: “Not necessarily a referendum. I think we have all got referendum fatigue. “But I do think that there are very few people who have voted for the confusion and mess that we are in at the moment. “Therefore, I think that it is democratic to offer a chance to understand once we know what Leave actually means.” On Wednesday, Brexit-supporting minister Chris Grayling admitted he would be willing to maintain alignment with EU rules to avoid disruption to British manufacturing as he said the Government is “re-doubling” efforts to avoid a no deal Brexit. Mr Grayling, who campaigned to Leave during the 2016 referendum, argued a compromise could ensure Britain secures a “sensible relationship” with the European Union in the future. Speaking to the Today programme, the Brexiteer minister said: “I didn’t campaign to leave the EU in order to have a different specification of motorcar in France and in the UK and so I can accept having alignment on the technical specifications of manufactured goods, if that is the price we need to pay in order to have a sensible relationship in the future. “None of us wants no-deal, none of us are working towards that. I think it would be damaging for both this country and the European Union.” Mr Grayling also outlined his support for the latest Brexit blueprint put forward by Theresa May as it would “offer us a way to reach an agreement with the European Union.” The mystery of Montego Air Flight 828 may or may not involve little green men (and women). Last month at San Diego Comic-Con, Josh Dallas and Melissa Roxburgh, the stars of NBC’s new thriller Manifest, did not rule out an extraterrestrial-related culprit behind the mythological puzzle. (To quickly recap: Flight 828 disappears from radar shortly after takeoff only to return years later without explanation, its passengers having experienced no passage of time.) “[It] could be aliens,” Roxburgh teased in TVLine’s SDCC Comic-Con video suite, before quickly adding, “It could [also] be a wormhole. It could be a million different things.” Whatever the reason, Dallas — who described the high-concept family drama (debuting Monday, Sept. 24 at 10/9c) as “Lost meets This Is Us — maintained that there is a reason. “[Series creator Jeff Rake] definitely has a plan,” he assured. For more from the Manifest pair, including initial concerns Dallas had about the series’ big-picture narrative, press PLAY on the video above. The movie is about Jason Statham’s attempts to stop the rampage of an 18-metre long megalodon; a huge and ferocious species that roamed the seas 20 million years ago. Of course in real life they’re long extinct, but the film suggests that a small number are still alive off the coast of China. Hans Sues, curator of vertebrate paleobiology at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, told Science magazine that it’s an entertaining film, but scientifically fundamentally flawed. Asked if the megalodons could have evaded extinction by living and hiding at the bottom of the ocean, he said: “No way. That would be absolutely impossible and goes against everything we know about megalodons based on the fossil record. “For starters, megalodons were found around the world, but only in warm coastal waters. They just aren’t adapted for deep ocean living. “The water is too cold, food would be too scarce, and megalodons would need to modify their whole body shape to avoid being squashed by the enormous water pressure down there. “Even if they were still around, it’s inconceivable that humans wouldn’t know about it. We’ve mapped the sea floor and have such advanced sensing technology. We would know if they were there.” And on the movie’s conceit that there’s a warm ecosystem under a cloud of hydrogen, he added: “I don’t think there’s any evidence that such a thing would exist. “And plus, it would be lethal to anything that would go through it. Because a cloud of hydrogen sulfide, particularly in dissolved form, would be a terrible thing to go through. “I think even a big shark like that couldn’t do that without harm to its physiology.” Still, Sues said a few elements are actually correct – such as the jaws and teeth, and the fact that it could feasibly have rammed into ships and underwater subs, had they existed at the same time. He also revealed that its ability to bite a whole ship in half is overall realistic. The Meg has had middling-to-weak reviews from critics and currently has a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes. New York Post said in a one-star review: “It’s not fun, it’s not serious, it’s not scary. It is stupid.” Entertainment Weekly were a little more generous, calling it “ridiculous, cheesy popcorn fun.” The Meg is out on Friday.

“I think that’s a bit cowardly,” Bobic told Bild am Sonntag. “Ozil’s criticism of social media, especially in the direction of the German Football Association (DFB), is unbearable.
“This blanket charge of racism simply does not correspond to reality. He could have given an interview somewhere, live on TV. For us footballers, the rule is ‘be a man and stand up.'”
Midfielder Ozil, who is of Turkish ancestry, had stated that he believed he was being unfairly singled out for Germany’s poor showing at the World Cup in Russia, in which they were eliminated at the group stages, when calling time on his international career.
The player, 29, said he believed he had been disrespected by the media, who were fickle regarding his stating: “I am German when we win, but I am an immigrant when we lose.”

Bobic continued: “I would allow that to a player who is 18 or 19 years old, but a player who has been in the business for so long, 29 years old and world champion, needs to know what this looks like.”
“If he does not know that, then he is either totally naive – I cannot imagine that – or it is calculating and he wanted to be provocative, or else he is alienated, of course, I understand the two hearts that beat in his chest, but nevertheless, you must know that you have a great responsibility.”
In contrast, upon joining up with club side Arsenal, Ozil thanked Gunners fans for their “love” at a pre-season friendly in Singapore.

Laurie Holden, who starred as Andrea in The Walking Dead, explained that her character’s death came as a surprise to many but she’s glad she took on the role.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the actress explained: “It’s a show where every single character is going to die at some point, some sooner than others.
“I think that mine was a bit controversial because it happened much sooner.
“I put everything I had into the character of Andrea and it means a lot to me that it still resonates with so many people.
“I travel all over the world and people are still not over that death.”
The 48-year-old went on to confess that despite starring on the zombie series for three seasons she didn’t watch the show at all.
“I don’t [watch it] but I didn’t watch it when I was on it so no disrespect,” Laurie noted.
“I don’t like seeing myself on film and I grew to love my co-stars so much that I don’t want to see them on film, I don’t want to see them tortured.
“It’s too hard on my spirit. I can’t do it.”
Laurie went on to reveal what she thinks Andrea would be doing if she had survived.
“She would be fighting against the evil and the people that are trying to bring civilisation down,” she said.
“I think she would be doing the best that she could to protect her friends and she would hold it together.
“I like to think of Andrea as a little angel looking down and making sure that everything is okay and she’s totally bless the whole Michonne and Rick situation.”
Laurie has recently starred in new film Pyewacket, which she described as a “supernatural thriller that has some horror elements”.
The film follows her character Mrs Reyes, who moves her daughter Leah (Nicole Munoz) to a house in the woods following the death of her husband.
Leah is far from impressed with her mother’s decision and turns to Black Magic to summon a with to kill her.
Terrified by the events that follow, she tries to reverse the spell but quickly realises she has awoken something in the woods.
Speaking about filming Leah’s chilling ritual in the woods, Laurie revealed: “The cast and crew was a bit freaked out when Nicole had to do her ritual in the woods.
“I’m a firm believer that you have to be careful what you put out there in the world, and I think a lot of people believe the same thing and we just wanted to make sure that we weren’t really doing an actual ritual that was going to open up a door to god knows what.
“Adam did a lot of research and the ritual that Nicole did, is actually a mish mash of a few things so it looks very authentic and feels very authentic but no, there were no evil forces that were conjured up.”
Revealing why she was attracted to the role of Mrs. Reyes, Laurie added: “I loved the story, I thought it was a great character and our director had a tremendous vision and I really liked his style of film-making.
“We go to some very dark places… the mother is extremely flawed.”
Touching on why fans have responded so well to the film, she continued: “It’s all very rich and extremely raw.”
The Walking Dead continues Monday on FOX at 9pm while Pyewacket is out in cinemas now.
