Anticipation, excitement and a fair amount of nerves are to be expected ahead of a Game 7.

That's the easy part. Or least the predictable part.

But for Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice, something else lingers ahead of two opponents preparing to decide which will move on and which will head home.

"There's absolutely a different feel," he said. "It's the final game for one team.

"There's definitely a calmness to it. There's a finality coming. It brings out the best."

After a back-and-forth slugfest of a second-round series with the Nashville Predators where neither club has imposed its will for longer than a period or two, the Jets are looking to get back to their best, or close to it, on the road in Game 7 at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday night.

"Simplicity," Maurice added when asked what will finally decide the razor-thin margin. "The team that can play as close to their game as possible — their identity game — wins."

That winner will take on the expansion Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference final, while the loser of the matchup featuring the NHL's No. 1 and No. 2 teams this season will be left to pick up the pieces.

Nashville beats Winnipeg 4-0, ties series at 3-3. Pekka Rinne 34 saves.1:39

Winnipeg had an opportunity to clinch in Monday's Game 6 only to fall 4-0 on home ice and send things back to Nashville all tied up.

The pressure has now swung back to the veteran Predators, who won the Presidents' Trophy with 117 points and made last spring's Stanley Cup final. The Jets were just three points back in the overall standings.

Both sides have failed to win consecutive games, and the two powerful home teams during the regular schedule own a middling 2-4 record through six second-round games.

The speedy, youthful Jets have looked unstoppable at times only to be brought back to earth by the battle-tested Predators each time they've nosed in front.

Staying focused

Winnipeg will need one more push to get to the city's first conference final.

"We've been prepared well and done a good job of fixing the things we have to fix in a loss and throwing it away and starting fresh," said centre Paul Stastny, the Jets' most experienced Game 7 participant with three under his belt. "No one likes to lose, no one likes to be around guys when you're losing.

"We've done a good job of not getting too high or too low after games and always focusing on the next one."

Nashville comes in with far more pedigree in Game 7s after playing two in the 2016 playoffs. Predators centre Nick Bonino has suited up in five throughout his career, while defenceman P.K Subban and veteran forwards Scott Hartnall and Mike Fisher — a question mark after getting hurt in Game 6 — have taken part in four apiece.

This will be the first Game 7 for the Jets/Atlanta Thrashers, who moved to Winnipeg in 2011. The old Jets last played a Game 7 in 1992, losing to Vancouver before bolting for Phoenix to become the Coyotes four years later.

Experience factor

Only four players expected to see action on Thursday for Winnipeg have played in a Game 7, while Nashville could have 16 or more.

"I'm glad our guys have some experience, I'm glad they've got some scars on them," said Predators head coach Peter Laviolette, who has 5-2 record in Game 7s. "Scars make you a little bit tougher.

"But at the end of the day it still comes down to those 60 minutes"

For the Jets to come out on top, it would be helpful if one or more of their young guns showed up.

Patrik Laine, Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers have combined for three goals and nine assists in the series, but have all faded in and out of the action at various points.

The lightning-quick Ehlers has struggled to get through a congested neutral zone, while Laine and Connor have probably deserved passing grades for their performances.

"[Ehlers has] got to get back to relaxing in terms of his expectations of every time he touches the puck something's going to happen," Maurice said. "In playoffs that rarely happens."

Maurice is a perfect 2-0 in Game 7s — both came on the road if Jets fans are looking for a good omen — but he also knows these winner-take-all affairs will test both coach and player.

"Game 7 is a different animal," he said. "Everything is focused on that.

"They're the most fun."

Star Wars Episode 9 working TITLE revealed? Last Jedi follow-up 'is being called THIS' https://briefnews.eu/star-wars-episode-9-working-title-revealed-last-jedi-follow-up-is-being-called-this/ https://briefnews.eu/star-wars-episode-9-working-title-revealed-last-jedi-follow-up-is-being-called-this/#respond Mon, 18 Dec 2017 14:55:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/star-wars-episode-9-working-title-revealed-last-jedi-follow-up-is-being-called-this/

The next movie, Episode 9 in the main saga, will see the key (surviving) characters from The Last Jedi continuing their plight to overthrow the First Order.

Now, it has been claimed that Episode IX has been given the working title of Black Diamond.

The revelation, courtesy of Fantha Tracks, also claims that the film is being produced under the business name of Carbonado Industries (UK) Ltd – Carbonado being the technical term for black diamond, the toughest form of natural diamond.

This, incidentally, is the same outlet that previously – accurately – revealed Red Cup to be the working title of next year’s Solo movie.

Very little is known about Episode IX at this stage, except that Carrie Fisher’s General Leia will not be seen in any capacity.

The actress sadly passed away almost a year ago, shortly after completing work on The Last Jedi.

Despite her estate seemingly given permission for her to be inserted into the story using CGI or archived footage, LucasFilm have decided that she will simply not appear at all.

It remains to be seen how General Leia’s exit will be explained on-screen.

In the meantime, we have Solo: A Star Wars Story to look forward to next spring.

That film, starring Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, has yet to so much as release a teaser trailer, after Ron Howard took over as director towards the end of production.

Star Wars 9 is out on December 20, 2019.

I’m A Celebrity 2017: 'Is Boris STILL Foreign Secretary?' Stanley Johnson leaves jungle https://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-is-boris-still-foreign-secretary-stanley-johnson-leaves-jungle/ https://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-is-boris-still-foreign-secretary-stanley-johnson-leaves-jungle/#respond Thu, 07 Dec 2017 00:51:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-is-boris-still-foreign-secretary-stanley-johnson-leaves-jungle/

The former politician told presenters Ant and Dec he was “gutted” to be booted out and said he enjoyed being surrounded by nature.

Asked what he was looking forward to now he was re-entering civilisation, Johnson said: “I’m absolutely looking forward to my emails, isn’t that pathetic?”

He added: “I want to know if Boris is still Foreign Secretary for example… I’m sure he is doing a fantastic job.

“I will look it up quickly.”

When Stanley entered the jungle on November 19 the Tory Cabinet appeared to be embroiled in a civil war over Brexit.

In September, Boris penned an article outlining his red lines for Brexit, which was seen by many people as his manifesto and a bid to replace Theresa May.

Even now reports have emerged that Boris is spearheading a Cabinet rebellion against the Prime Minister following fears she is trying to hoodwink them into a soft Brexit.

The former Tory MEP had never seen the show before entering the jungle but said it ranked very high on his list of experiences.

Stanley said: ”I love being in wonderful empty places with few people… what an environment. Congratulations Australia.”

He even queried whether he could return for next year’s show – but described the experience as being a “wonderful form of gastric surgery”.

Mr Johnson backed Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo to go on to win the ITV show.

Wednesday night’s episode saw ex-footballer Dennis Wise and comedian Iain Lee clash as they debated the latter’s bushtucker trial record.

The seven remaining celebrities were asked to nominate one person for the Tutankha-Doom trial which would see them work through a tomb filled with cockroaches, scorpions, crocodiles, snakes and other critters.

As Iain attempted to throw his hat in the ring for the task, Wise told him: “My only problem, and I’ll be honest with you Iain, is that you’ve said ‘Get Me Out Of Here’ twice and what I don’t want to do is we have no dinner.”

Actor Jamie Lomas was eventually chosen to do the trial, collecting six of the available eight stars and told hosts Ant and Dec: “Iain would have struggled because he’s a big lad, no two ways about it.”

Iain was in tears during the episode as he received a letter from his sons who labelled him their “hero”.

They wrote: “We think you did very well on the rocket trial. We felt scared and worried watching you because we know you are scared of heights. Thank you so much for doing it for us.”

Jamie also received a letter from home with his mother Helen and sisters Charley and Cassie telling him they were “so proud”.

“You’ve shown yourself to the world in your true form. Loving, caring, fearless, brave, funny and a true gent,” they added.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! returns Thursday evening.

BBC weather: Carol Kirkwood SLAMMED for noisy forecast: 'Is there actually any point?' https://briefnews.eu/bbc-weather-carol-kirkwood-slammed-for-noisy-forecast-is-there-actually-any-point/ https://briefnews.eu/bbc-weather-carol-kirkwood-slammed-for-noisy-forecast-is-there-actually-any-point/#respond Wed, 06 Dec 2017 08:56:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bbc-weather-carol-kirkwood-slammed-for-noisy-forecast-is-there-actually-any-point/

The meteorologist presented her report from inside the Magical Ice Kingdom at Winter Wonderland in London.

However, her choice of location left those at home furious as the festive background music made it difficult to hear her.

Taking to Twitter to air their frustration, one posted: “Can you tell the orchestra to pipe down a bit so we can hear the forecast?”

Another fumed: “Is there actually any point to Carol Kirkwood doing BBC weather this morning, can’t hear her over the ‘background’ music.”

“Looks great but it’s incredibly hard to hear forecast. For goodness sake ask them to turn the music down please!” added a third.

During her report, she predicted a mild and breezy week for most with rain in the west, saying: “It’s very mild for this time of year… especially for northern Ireland and Scotland.”

She also warned of rainfall and heavy wind in the north: “The rain across the north west will slowly move south-eastwards, it is going to be windy wherever you are today, particularly across the north.”

Moving into tomorrow, temperatures will be between 10 and 12 celsius, which is above average for December.

Carol Kirkwood, 55, also urged viewers to prepare for Storm Caroline which will move across north west Scotland.

Meanwhile, fans also questioned whether the presenter could be warm in a place filled with ice.

One concerned viewer wrote: “Hope you’ve got your long johns on,” while another said: “Good morning Carol, you look so cold.”

“Hope you are wearing thick pants, you don’t want to catch a chill,” warned a third.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.

The X Factor 2017: Simon Cowell STUNS Cheryl with wicked comeback 'Is that your ex?' https://briefnews.eu/the-x-factor-2017-simon-cowell-stuns-cheryl-with-wicked-comeback-is-that-your-ex/ https://briefnews.eu/the-x-factor-2017-simon-cowell-stuns-cheryl-with-wicked-comeback-is-that-your-ex/#respond Sun, 22 Oct 2017 14:38:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-x-factor-2017-simon-cowell-stuns-cheryl-with-wicked-comeback-is-that-your-ex/

The 34-year-old came back to help Simon, 58, pick his final three candidates who he will take to the live shows.

They even fit in time for a quick party game of Stick It On Your Head with host Dermot O’Leary.

The first round goes smoothly, with Cheryl doing her best impression of the music mogul by saying of the game: “Darling, it’s so low rent.”

But things become cheekier when the Geordie pop star tries to describe former X Factor contestant Wagner.

Donning her best Brazilian accent, Cheryl says to Simon: “That’s not my name, Louis!”

Simon doesn’t miss a trick and promptly swipes back with a jibe about her old flame Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini: “Is that your ex-husband?”

To add insult to injury, the Syco boss tells his pal who was in hysterics that she gave him “the worst impression”.

Cheryl will make her return to the ITV talent show during tonight’s final round of Judges’ Houses.

The brunette bombshell makes a superstar entrance in a helicopter while dressed all in black.

Cheryl showed off her enviable figure with chic high-waisted black trousers and a form-fitting bralette to accompany them.

The X Factor continues tonight on BBC One at 7pm.

How much sleep should YOU be getting? Healthy amount 'is better for you than money' https://briefnews.eu/how-much-sleep-should-you-be-getting-healthy-amount-is-better-for-you-than-money/ https://briefnews.eu/how-much-sleep-should-you-be-getting-healthy-amount-is-better-for-you-than-money/#respond Tue, 19 Sep 2017 01:04:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/how-much-sleep-should-you-be-getting-healthy-amount-is-better-for-you-than-money/

There is a significant gap between those who are living the best and worst in Britain, with sleep quality found to be the strongest indicator of living well, the study by Oxford Economics and the National Centre for Social Research for Sainsbury’s found.

Those who are satisfied with their sex lives, have job security and a connection with their community are also disproportionately likely to rank at the top of the inaugural Living Well Index.

Researchers found the average Briton has a “living well score” of 62.2 out of 100, with those living the best defined as the 20 per cent of the population with the highest scores, falling between 72 and 92.

They found income has surprisingly little impact on how people feel, with a 50 per cent rise in income contributing to just a 0.5 point increase in a typical Briton’s overall score, while sleep quality could explain 3.8 points of difference between a typical person’s score and those in the top 20 per cent.

Worrying about the health of close relations contributed to a difference of 1.75 points between the typical Briton and those living best.

Researchers asked a nationally representative panel of 8,250 people questions about 60 different aspects of their behaviour, how they live and how they feel.

The same panel will be questioned every six months, enabling the supermarket and researchers to track the effects of how Britons live on how they feel.

Ian Mulheirn, director of consulting at Oxford Economics, said: “Wellbeing is rising up the agenda at a time of rapid change in how we live our lives, and we’ve created a critical new tool that can help us to unpick what’s driving our sense of living well, drawing on a unique, rolling survey of unprecedented breadth and granularity.

“The analysis within the Sainsbury’s Living Well Index reveals that, in a world that’s never been more connected, the richness of our relationships and support networks remains among the biggest determinants of how well we live, and represents an area of our lives in which we can act.“

Sainsbury’s chief executive Mike Coupe said: “We’ve launched the Sainsbury’s Living Well Index to help us better understand what ‘living well’ truly means to people across the UK today.

“The index will help to inform how we run our business and will also help us uncover and engage more boldly on the issues that concern people most in their everyday lives.“

'Is the Eiffel Tower in Italy?' Google’s most embarrassing travel searches REVEALED https://briefnews.eu/is-the-eiffel-tower-in-italy-googles-most-embarrassing-travel-searches-revealed/ https://briefnews.eu/is-the-eiffel-tower-in-italy-googles-most-embarrassing-travel-searches-revealed/#respond Wed, 13 Sep 2017 11:39:18 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/is-the-eiffel-tower-in-italy-googles-most-embarrassing-travel-searches-revealed/

It appears many of us did not pay enough attention in geography class, if Google’s most popular travel searches are anything to go by.

Research by travel money providers, The Money Shop, has revealed some embarrassing shortcomings in knowledge of the world’s most iconic sights.

Official analytics from the past 12 months revealed the popular questions typed into the search engine by prospective tourists.

The Eiffel Tower opened in Paris in 1889, but it seems 128 years is not quite long enough to learn the location.

An average of 25,000 people visit the top of the monument each day, but an astounding 480 Google searches thought it might belong to somewhere other than France.

One of the most surprising travel fails was “Is the Eiffel Tower in Italy?”

So too was the question “Is Mount Everest in Europe?”, accounting for 240 searches.

The 29,035ft mountain is over 60 million years old. It sits on the borders of Nepal, China and Tibet.

Britons should be well aware of the location of Stonehenge, but it appears some of us are way off.

Google received 120 searches for: “Is Stonehenge in Kenya?”

Nevada’s casino city of Las Vegas draws many tourists to America each year.

So too does the Grand Canyon, which is not, just to clarify, located on the glitter strip.

A staggering 840 Google searches asked: “Is the Grand Canyon in Vegas?”

The 277-mile canyon borders the state of Nevada, which is the only connection between the two landmarks.

Saturday Kitchen fans BAFFLED by bizarre shake-up amid 'BORING' show: 'Is there a reason?' https://briefnews.eu/saturday-kitchen-fans-baffled-by-bizarre-shake-up-amid-boring-show-is-there-a-reason/ https://briefnews.eu/saturday-kitchen-fans-baffled-by-bizarre-shake-up-amid-boring-show-is-there-a-reason/#respond Sat, 19 Aug 2017 11:49:00 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/saturday-kitchen-fans-baffled-by-bizarre-shake-up-amid-boring-show-is-there-a-reason/

Today’s instalment off the BBC cooking programme had viewers flooding to Twitter to complain after it was revealed that it wouldn’t be aired live.

The pre-recorded episode, hosted by TV favourite Matt Tebbutt, 43, received criticism from fans who blasted the format change, with one saying: “Why was #SaturdayKitchen not live and why was a pre-recorded show SO boring???”

Two more commented on the “flat” atmosphere of the episode, while another quipped: “If it’s not live it must be dead…”

Others were puzzled by the shake-up, but one had a theory, asking: “Is there a reason #SaturdayKitchen isn’t live anymore? Too much accidental swearing?”

“Why are you guys not live today?” another social media user begged.

However, some fans weren’t as irritated by the pre-recorded show.

The Trial: A Murder in the Family leaves viewers baffled 'Is this programme real or fake?' https://briefnews.eu/the-trial-a-murder-in-the-family-leaves-viewers-baffled-is-this-programme-real-or-fake/ https://briefnews.eu/the-trial-a-murder-in-the-family-leaves-viewers-baffled-is-this-programme-real-or-fake/#respond Mon, 22 May 2017 01:11:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-trial-a-murder-in-the-family-leaves-viewers-baffled-is-this-programme-real-or-fake/

The show saw defendant Simon Davis, a university lecturer, be tried for the murder of his estranged wife, who had been strangled in her home.

The programme was described by Channel 4 as a social experiment, which examines the thought-process behind the British jury system.

While the defendant was an actor as were the witnesses, the jurors are ordinary members of the public.

However, those watching at home struggled to understand what part of the trial was real and who was acting.

One baffled person asked: “#TheTrial .. whats real n whats fake in this show?! Do they really think hes accused of murder? (sic)”

A second reiterated: “Is this programme real or fake? #thetrial.”

“If it was a real trial would the jurors really be so jovial? Also I’m not really understanding #thetrial,” a third questioned.

While a fourth tweeted: “#thetrial I’m sorry…..just too confused as to what’s real and what’s acting….beginning to lose a bit of interest.”

The case itself is a construct, however, the trial was held in a real court with a retired judge and real barristers acting as the defence and prosecution teams.

The Trial: A Murder in the Family continues tomorrow at 9pm on Channel 4.

Grimshaw said: “So here we go, the one about Taylor Swift.”

Harry registered the comment and looked completely mortified, yelling: “Oh no!”

“We call it Two Ghosts,” Grimshaw added, as Harry continued to flail his arms in the air.

Watch below.

“I’m going to Capital!” he declared, referencing Radio 1’s rival station.

Harry’s debut album – which is self-titled – was released yesterday to generally positive reviews.

Positive feedback has included a three-star verdict from the likes of the Evening Standard, The Guardian, The Independent and NME.
