Sharon acted as a judge on the X Factor for 2004 to 2007, again in 2013 before taking a break to return in 2016.

This year she’s set to join the judging panel alongside Simon Cowell in the live shows, but ahead of that she’s commented on her boss.

In an appearance on a US radio show with Howard Stern, the 65-year-old said the mogul would do “whatever it takes” to get “his f*****g fat face on the TV”.

However, she did go on to say: “I like Simon, he’s been very good to me but he’s a pain in the a**e.”

Howard went on to ask if she would save himself or Simon on a sinking boat.

Sharon exclaimed: ”We would put a f***ing brick around his neck and throw him over. I will drown you mother f****r. Absolute…he’s gone.”

The current judges on the X Factor are Louis Tomlinson and husband-and-wife team Ayda Field and Robbie Williams.

It was reported that Ayda and Robbie had been signed up for a joint deal of £10 million.

Simon went on to describe it as “the best £10 million [he’d] ever spent”.

Sharon went on to criticise the pay check compared to her own as she said: ”So Simon I have a clause in my contract in my contract ‘favoured nations’.

“Simon goes to the press and goes this is the best £10 million I have ever spent.

“So I go, ‘I have favoured nations, where is my f***ing £10million? I have a clause. I am a businesswoman.”

Sharon also denied rumours that her own fee was £1 million as she declared: “I am not f*****g doing it for a million. It is a principle – you want me you have to pay what I am worth.

“And the thing is these networks aren’t used to it. Because people are always half way up their a*** for a gig. And at my age I won’t f*****g beg.”

The mother-of-three also spoke on why she wasn’t contracted to appear at the auditions stage of the competitions.

Asked why her contract changed this year so she didn’t appear at the auditions, she blasted: “Oh f*** I don’t have to have those kids singing in my face.

“Those little s***s. They all suck. It is like hey is this f*****g karaoke or what?”

Sharon also commented on the addition of Robbie and Ayda to the judging panel.

She said: “Listen to this he has got two f*****g people in the show. He has changed the panel. Robbie Williams, he’s a good guy, and he has got his wife on.”

Howard then asked “what does she know?”, to which Sharon replied: “I don’t know. She was in a soap opera here years ago.”

It seemed Sharon was willing to joke about her future on the show as she went on to ask Howard: “Are you giving me a job when I get the f*****g sack?”

The X Factor returns on Saturday at 8.30pm on ITV.

'Do not interrupt me!' Redwood delivers SHARP reply during Brexit spat with Labour MP https://briefnews.eu/do-not-interrupt-me-redwood-delivers-sharp-reply-during-brexit-spat-with-labour-mp/ https://briefnews.eu/do-not-interrupt-me-redwood-delivers-sharp-reply-during-brexit-spat-with-labour-mp/#respond Thu, 23 Aug 2018 17:05:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/do-not-interrupt-me-redwood-delivers-sharp-reply-during-brexit-spat-with-labour-mp/

John Redwood snapped at the Labour MP, Rupa Huq, and told her to not interrupt him as he spoke during a debate.

The pair were discussing the implications of the UK leaving the EU with no-deal, before the Brexit Secretary outlined Britain’s no-deal preparation during a key speech later on Thursday.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Redwood said: “A lot of people can’t understand the delay. They say to the Government, rightly, get on with it.

“If the EU doesn’t want to do a free trade deal then we can trade perfectly well under World Trade Organisation rules.”

Labour MP Ms Huq then attempted to interrupt the Conservative MP sparking a swift response from the Brexiteer.

Mr Redwood replied: “I didn’t interrupt you because I wasn’t allowed to, so will you please not interrupt me?

“We will trade under those terms, we know exactly how they work because that’s how we do the bulk of our trade today.

“There is no problem in importing things from China or America, huge quantities from China, they arrive when we want them, they are not delayed at our ports.

“So why should there be any delay or problems if we import materials from Germany and France on the same basis that we currently import from China and America.”

The debate took place before Dominic Raab outlined how the UK is preparing to leave the European Union without a deal.

During an interview on BBC’s Today programme on Thursday morning, the Brexit Secretary launched a scathing attack on the “dwindling” supporters of Project Fear.

Speaking ahead of his key speech, he said: “There is an irony in this debate because some of those promoting the worst scare stories around no deal, making the case at the eleventh hour to call off Brexit, are relying on the fact that they say or they assume the EU will behave in a vindictive way.

“I fear that’s the Achille’s heel of the latest incarnation of Project Fear by admittedly a rather small and dwindling number of those trying to frustrate Brexit.”

During his speech, he said: “Naturally we have to got to consider the alternative possibility, that the EU does not match our ambition and pragmatism, and we do not reach a deal.

“Let me be clear about this. This is not what we want. And it’s not what we expect. But, we must be ready.

“We have a duty, as a responsible government, to plan for every eventuality.”

The Brexit Secretary explained during his speech that there is already planning talks between the Bank of England and the European Central Bank for a no-deal scenario and called for talks to begin on data protection and between port authorities.

Under current plans, the reports will be published in batches, starting on Thursday and running through September.

ITV Good Morning Britain: 'Do you have answers?' Garraway and Farage in heated Brexit row https://briefnews.eu/itv-good-morning-britain-do-you-have-answers-garraway-and-farage-in-heated-brexit-row/ https://briefnews.eu/itv-good-morning-britain-do-you-have-answers-garraway-and-farage-in-heated-brexit-row/#respond Tue, 21 Aug 2018 09:57:29 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/itv-good-morning-britain-do-you-have-answers-garraway-and-farage-in-heated-brexit-row/

Nigel Farage appeared on Good Morning Britain today alongside Garraway and Jeremy Kyle to discuss his decision to return to the public eye with a Brexit campaign group.

But when Garraway pressed the businessman for answers, the pair came to blows.

Farage began the discussion to explain how dissatisfied he was with how Brexit procedures were going.

He said: “I’ve watched a Prime Minister who stands up and says ‘Brexit means Brexit, we’re taking back control of our borders’ and does the opposite.”

Farage continued to criticise those in government as he insisted the general public were “crying out” for genuine leadership.

Of Theresa May, Farage declared: “I think this Prime Minister has come across as one of the weakest I’ve seen in my life time.”

But Garraway was determined to take Farage to task over his role in the Brexit campaigns, referencing the campaign bus which said £350 million could be given to the NHS if Britain left the European Union.

“There still doesn’t seem an obvious solution and the things people got excited about, I know that you never said that,” Garraway began.

However, Farage began to speak over the presenter, prompting her to say: “Hang on, Nigel.“

But Farage continued: “What about being free?”

“Wait, you’ve got to answer a question,” Garraway insisted.

“You said that, you might not have actually said that but you didn’t deny it when it went round.”

Farage clearly wasn’t pleased with the line of questioning, as he exclaimed: “Don’t trivialise this.”

But Garraway pressed the issue: “Do you have any answers to the solution?”

Farage insisted: “We had a referendum, we voted for something and our politicians should deliver this.”

He also hit out at politician’s “condescension” toward the British public when it came to Brexit.

“One of the things that annoys me is this condescension, ’people didn’t know what they were voting for’. They did, they knew what they were voting for,” he said.

“If our politicians think they can get away with talking down to our people as if they’re stupid, they’re in for a shock.”

Later on in the discussion, he added that some politicians were “betraying” the result of the referendum.

“It wasn’t the best of three. We were told, you decide, we’ll honour, it, they are betraying it. I intend to teach them a lesson,” he remarked.

Farage also touched upon the subject of whether there should be a new leader for parliament and who could fill May’s shoes.

“I think the need for that is pretty urgent, there are people out there who believe in Brexit,” he said.

“Boris [Johnson] believes in it, Jacob Rees Mogg believes in it.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.

The One Show host Matt Baker shut down by EastEnders star: 'Do me a favour!' https://briefnews.eu/the-one-show-host-matt-baker-shut-down-by-eastenders-star-do-me-a-favour/ https://briefnews.eu/the-one-show-host-matt-baker-shut-down-by-eastenders-star-do-me-a-favour/#respond Thu, 26 Apr 2018 20:32:42 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-one-show-host-matt-baker-shut-down-by-eastenders-star-do-me-a-favour/

Matt was trying to change the topic of the show from to a nature segment, when Tameka made the shock outburst.

The One Show host, Alex Jones and the soap star had been discussing the recent criticism that Coronation Street’s storylines were “too dark”.

Tameka noted: “I know it’s drama, it’s make believe but it is based on something. Life can be grim and life can be hard.”

She went on to add that it was important for soaps to have a balance of comedy and drama.

“People who tune into watch it want that balance,” she said.

Matt and Alex then went to move the show onto the next segment, which focussed on the UK’s wildlife.

Alex explained: “Now, after an unusually sunny spell last week, weather wise, it looks like we’re back to business as usual.”

“It’s spring, it’s meant to be like this,” Matt protested.

The mother-of-one shot back: “I know but it’s cold.”

“We’re not in summer yet everyone, news flash,” Matt continued.

“But thankfully the natural world enjoys both sunny spells and the April showers.”

Taking the opportunity to poke fun at the criticism of soaps, Tameka interrupted Matt.

“What?” she exclaimed. “The light and shade in drama? Do me a favour!”

Matt was left momentarily speechless by Tameka’s outburst before he continued.

“Listen,” he said. “In terms of wildlife, it’s more than prepared for the April showers.”

Statins may 'do more harm than good': Experts say MILLIONS should not be taking them https://briefnews.eu/statins-may-do-more-harm-than-good-experts-say-millions-should-not-be-taking-them-2/ https://briefnews.eu/statins-may-do-more-harm-than-good-experts-say-millions-should-not-be-taking-them-2/#respond Tue, 23 Jan 2018 01:01:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/statins-may-do-more-harm-than-good-experts-say-millions-should-not-be-taking-them-2/

They claim the advantages of taking statins for already healthy people are “vanishingly small” and insist diet and exercise deliver far more impressive results in maintaining a healthy heart.

It has also been claimed that “raw data” on the side-effects of the drugs is being withheld.

Statins are taken by six million Britons but remain highly controversial, with many patients complaining of crippling side-effects, while evidence suggests they have no impact on prolonging life.

The medication works to lower the level of cholesterol in the blood and can reduce cardiovascular disease.

In the bombshell review, author Dr Maryanne Demasi said: “Doctors prescribing statins should remain inherently sceptical because the majority of those taking [them] are healthy people at low risk, where the benefits are vanishingly small, and the raw data on side-effects is kept hidden.”

Writing in the British Journal Of Sports Medicine, Dr Demasi has been backed by a coalition of world-leading experts.

She claims statistics are manipulated to exaggerate the benefits of statins and underplay the risks, while dissenting views have been silenced.

Dr Demasi said: “Of utmost importance is that independent researchers are permitted to access the raw data on the side-effects of statins.

“We have learnt from the past, as in the case of Tamiflu, that when drug companies withhold crucial trial data from the public, it perverts the results by favouring the benefits of the drug and underplaying the harms.

“This secrecy has now cultivated doubt about the authenticity of the statin data.”

Millions are thought to have stopped taking the drugs for fear of being crippled by side-effects, including muscle aches, memory loss, kidney problems and sleep disturbance.

Sir Richard Thompson, the Queen’s former personal physician, said: “This formidable review adds to the voices that are questioning the cholesterol/statin/cardiovascular disease hypothesis and are criticising the presentation of many of the trial data.

“Physicians should emphasise the benefits on cardiovascular disease of physical activity and a Mediterranean diet, both of which are effective and safer and cheaper than drugs.”

Statins are the most commonly prescribed drug in Britain.

They cost about £2 per month.

But experts have criticised the decision to give cholesterol-lowering drugs to healthy people to stave off heart attacks or strokes.

Dr Malcolm Kendrick, an NHS GP from Macclesfield, Cheshire, said: “This research clearly demonstrates that statins do more harm than good.”

US cardiologist Dr Rita Redberg, of San Francisco Medical Centre, said: “Unfortunately, until all data is available and discussed with patients, millions of people taking these drugs will continue to have far greater chance of harm than benefit.”

In response Metin Avkiran, of the British Heart Foundation, said: “We have more than 20 years’ worth of research showing statins are an effective way of reducing the risk of a heart attack in people at high risk.

“The opinions expressed in this article don’t change anything and patients who have been prescribed statins should continue to take them.

“If you have any concerns, talk to your doctor.”

And, her absence from the breakfast show appeared to have riled host , who launched into a scathing rant about the politician’s decision to head Down Under.

“We want to get Kezia on, the MP, to have a chat with her about the fact that she has been turfed out immediately by the British public,” the presenter explained.

“But she wasn’t available to us, she didn’t want to be on a programme to talk about it with me. She preferred to have a nice, cosier chat elsewhere, with people that might be nice to her.”

The 52-year-old continued: “Kezia, my question would have been, get back to your damn constituency and do your job, right.

“That’s it Kezia, you’re an MP, a member of Parliament, paid for by us, to serve the people, not to galavant around in a jungle trying to eat kangaroo testicles.

“The British public just gave their verdict on you, they don’t like you. They don’t like anything you stood for by going into that jungle. So get back to your job.”

His co-host could be seen sighing as Piers slammed Kezia, before telling viewers at home: “If you wonder why she didn’t appear in an interview with Piers, there’s your evidence.”

It came after the father-of-four smashed a Breakfast mug live on air as he took a swipe at his rivals.

Explaining his decision to break the cup, he laughed: “I did to their mug what we’ve been doing to their ratings all year.

“My festive thoughts to our rivals over there.”

Concerned viewers called for studio security to be tightened as one member of the crowd grabbed Dermot’s shoulders and tried to turn him around while live on air, before putting his arm around the host’s neck.

Returning from the break, Dermot said: “Welcome back to Top Of The Pops… The X Factor semi-final. Ed Sheeran’s coming up very soon.”

The excited audience goer then screamed: “Ed, Ed, Ed, Ed, Ed, Ed, Ed!”

Trying to pacify the rowdy audience member, Dermot said: “I know, he is. Thank you for letting me know.

“But first, if you want to audition for next year’s X Factor, it’s as easy as pi, because you can now apply via WhatsApp, just as this young hopeful.”

As Dermot played the clip, the audience member continued to shout “Ed” and “Love you Ed” in the presenter’s ear.

Finishing playing the clip, Dermot said: “Nice. Very strong back game as well, it’s a yes from me,” before the man tried to follow Dermot to the stage.

Dermot turned around and gave a gentle push, saying: “You, young man. Do me a favour and just stay there!”

Viewers instantly took to social media, with one raging: “Thought security should of stepped in #Xfactor what was that idiot doing behind Dermot,” as another tweeted: “How bad is security at LH2? That guy shouldn’t have been near Dermot. #XFactor.”

A third teased: “Dermot walking through the crowd of this week’s Jeremy Kyle contestants #XFactor,” as another quizzed: “Who let that guy near Dermot? #XFactor @TheXFactor.”

A fifth said: “Who is that t**t behind Dermot? #xfactor,” as another wrote: “Thought Dermot was gonna drop that lad then. #XFactor.”

STATINS WARNING: Heart medicine pills 'do more HARM than good' https://briefnews.eu/statins-warning-heart-medicine-pills-do-more-harm-than-good/ https://briefnews.eu/statins-warning-heart-medicine-pills-do-more-harm-than-good/#respond Fri, 14 Jul 2017 00:35:56 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/statins-warning-heart-medicine-pills-do-more-harm-than-good/

Analysis showed those who suffer a heart attack and take a daily cholesterol-busting pill for five years will increase their life expectancy by just four days.

The research casts fresh doubt on the effectiveness of drugs prescribed to six million people in the UK and has reignited the debate over their true worth.

A coalition of experts in Britain and the US joined forces to declare there is “no consistent evidence” that the pills reduce death rates.

It’s clear appropriate lifestyle interventions deliver far more impressive results compared to those of current medications without the side-effects and at a much lower cost

Dr Aseem Malhotra, report’s author

They claimed that the pro-statin lobby is funded by pharmaceutical giants and simply based on “cherry-picked science”.

The senior medics suggest the simplest and safest way to achieve a healthy heart is through better diet and more exercise.

Consultant cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra, the report’s author, said: “It’s clear appropriate lifestyle interventions deliver far more impressive results compared to those of current medications without the side-effects and at a much lower cost.

A new study claims heart attack medicine statins ‘do more harm than good’

“There appears to be no clear reduction in coronary heart disease mortality in western European countries from statins for primary [low-risk patients] and secondary prevention [high-risk patients].”

Statins are the most commonly prescribed drug in Britain.

Cardiovascular disease causes around 180,000 deaths a year in England and Wales. But the drug remains highly controversial as millions of users complain of side-effects including muscle ache, memory loss, kidney problems and sleep disturbance.

The report, published in the Pharmaceutical Journal, examined dozens of studies over two decades to conclude that cholesterol itself does not cause heart disease.

Senior researcher Esther van Zuuren said: “It’s time we look at the evidence and stop letting the pharmaceutical companies and food industry pull the wool over our eyes.”

Dr Malhotra, of Lister Hospital in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, and Robert Lustig, of the University of California, added: “There are 44 randomised controlled trials of drug interventions to lower cholesterol in the primary and secondary prevention literature which show no benefit on mortality.

“Most of these trails did not reduce cardiovascular events and several reported substantial harm. Yet, these studies have not received much publicity.”

Experts including consultant cardiologist Dr Scott Murray, of the Royal Liverpool Hospital, Professor Chris Oliver, of the University of Edinburgh, and Sir Richard Thompson, the Queen’s former personal physician and past president of the Royal College of Physicians have backed the report.

Statins are the most commonly prescribed drug in Britain

Sir Richard said: “The seductive theory that cholesterol in the blood and the diet is the enemy, and therefore must be lowered at all costs, has diverted attention from the unnatural increase in sugar intake that has a greater influence on obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. It’s time for a rethink and a change in our diets.”

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in England and Wales, accounting for almost one third of fatalities.

Current guidance recommends that GPs should offer 20mg of atorvastatin to people with a risk of 10 per cent or greater of developing cardiovascular disease within the next 10 years.

Other variants of the drug include fluvastatin (Lescol), pravastatin (Lipostat), rosuvastatin (Crestor) and simvastatin (Zocor).

They cost around £2 a month. Research shows the number of people taking the tablets could rise to 12 million if the majority of men over 50 and women over 60 took the drug as a precaution. But yesterday the experts fiercely criticised the “aggressive focus” of cholesterol-lowering drugs for healthy people.

Researchers say a healthy lifestyle is more effective than taking the medicine

They said: “Contrary to reports about stopping statins as a consequence of media scare stories about side effects resulting in thousands of heart attacks and deaths, there is no real world scientific evidence from registry data of a single person suffering such a fate.

“Given that statins give the illusion of cardiovascular protection in obese individuals, predispose to the development of Type 2 diabetes in up to one in 50 patients and cause reversible side-effects in up to 29 per cent of users, stopping statins may paradoxically save more lives and improve quality if life in those taking them.”

Professor Mark Baker, of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, said: “Heart disease and stroke kill one in three of us and disable many more.

To make progress in the battle against heart disease and stroke, we must encourage exercise, improve our diets still further, stop smoking, and where appropriate offer statins to people at risk. “Their use in people who have established cardiovascular disease is not controversial.

Their use to prevent the development of cardiovascular disease in well people is a more recent role but is equally widespread and robustly evidence-based.

“But people should not take statins instead of making the lifestyle adjustments that those at risk of cardiovascular disease need to make.”

In a preview of the sit-down released by Fox News, the O’Reilly Factor host asks Trump about Vladimir Putin, and whether he respects the Russian president.

“I do respect him… I respect a lot of people, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to get along with him,” Trump says. “He’s a leader of his country. I say it’s better to get along with Russia than not. And if Russia helps us with the fight against ISIS — which is a major fight — and Islamic terrorism all over the world, that’s a good thing. Will I get along with him? I have no idea. It’s very possible I won’t.”

“But he’s a killer, though,” O’Reilly then notes. “Putin’s a killer.”

“There are a lot of killers. We’ve got a lot of killers,” Trump responds. “What do you think — our country’s so innocent?”

In a second clip, O’Reilly asks Trump if there’s any validity to criticism that he says things he “can’t back up factually,” leading to a discussion about POTUS’ recent claim that more than 3 million undocumented citizens voted in the 2016 election illegally.

O’Reilly’s interview with Trump airs Sunday at 4 pm, with additional excerpts airing as part of The O’Reilly Factor on Monday and Tuesday.
