Well, this doesn’t bode well for Supergirl‘s season-ending proposal.
Floriana Lima, who achieved series-regular status in the CW drama’s second season as Detective Maggie Sawyer, will return for Season 3 in a smaller capacity, TVLine has learned.
Of course, in addition to being one of National City’s finest detectives, Maggie is also the girlfriend of Alex Danvers, who ended Monday’s finale by asking Maggie to marry her. But rather than giving Alex an actual answer, Maggie simply smiled — perhaps knowing something the rest of us don’t about her future in town.
“We adore Floriana and have loved working with her to tell this inspiring story,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says in a statement. “Although she’s not available to us as a series regular next season, as she’s looking to pursue other opportunities, we’re happy she’ll be returning for multiple episodes in Season 3.”
“I think what’s important is just to show this as a relationship and not to focus fully on the fact that these are two gay women,” Lima recently told TVLine. “We want to treat it and give it as much thought as any other relationship, right, but also be mindful that we are representing a community that needs more representation. We want to get it right, and we want to really think things through.”
