Netball:It was a ‘night of firsts’ for the Super Netball competition – and that included its first draw.

THERE were sizzling shooting displays and a very big upset in round one. But what can we expect from round two of Super Netball?

We take a look at the big games and the big names in the league.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE ROUND

The first-ever double header in Super Netball will be played in Sydney on Saturday.

SPECIAL MENTION

Vixens player Tegan Phillips earns a special mention for her long-awaited return to elite netball last round.

Phillips, who missed the 2016 season with an ACL rupture, produced a MVP performance in the Melbourne derby.

#Susan Pettitt played her 200th national league game last round.

#Thunderbirds’ Chelsea Pitman leads the league for most goal assists with 19.

#Swifts midcourter Paige Hadley leads the league for most centre pass receives with 20.

#Magpies defender Sharni Layton leads the league for defensive rebounds with four.

#Magpies shooter Caitlin Thwaites was the most accurate in Round 1 with 47 goals from 48 attempts at 98 per cent accuracy.

#Firebirds midcourter Caitlyn Nevins leads the league for feeds with 42.

#Firebirds defender Laura Clemesha leads the league for deflections with nine.

#A trio of Thunderbirds players made their national league debut last round in Malysha Kelly, Fiona Themann and Gia Abernethy (training partner and temporary replacement player).

#Two Swifts players made their national league debut last weekend in Sam Wallace and Helen Housby.

SWIFTS V THUNDERBIRDS

OUR TIP: Swifts

#These clubs have played 19 times with the Thunderbirds holding a 10-9 win/loss advantage.

#The Thunderbirds lead the comp after their 56-­51 victory over the Fever in round one.

#Two players — Sarah Klau and Maddy Proud — will meet their old teammates at the Thunderbirds in the match.

#The Thunderbirds have the most imports of any team — Ama Agbeze (England), Fiona Themann (Scotland), Malysha Kelly (Jamaica), Jade Clarke (England) and Chelsea Pitman (England).

GIANTS V FEVER

OUR TIP: Giants

#The Giants were the only new club to win in round one with the Magpies falling to the Vixens and Lightning drawing with the Firebirds.

#This is the first ever game between the two clubs.

#The Giants are in second place after round one, while the Fever are in eighth.

#Eight of the Giants 10 players took the court last round, leaving only Toni Anderson and Taylah Davies to make their debuts.

#Fever’s Jessica Anstiss made her national league debut in Round 1.

FIREBIRDS V MAGPIES

OUR TIP: Magpies

#This is the first ever official clash between the established Firebirds and the new Magpies club.

#The Firebirds lead the league for most deflections by a team, with 22.

#Despite drawing with Lightning, the Firebirds were the least accurate team in round one with 56 goals from 76 attempts at 74 per cent.

#Three Firebirds players made their national league debut last round in Kimberley Jenner, Jemma Mi Mi and Kristen Oxenford (training partner and temporary replacement player)

#Magpies training partner Samantha Gooden made her national league against the Vixens as a temporary replacement player.

LIGHTNING v VIXENS

OUR TIP: Lightning.

#This is the first ever official game played between these two teams.

#Lightning shooter and Diamonds star Caitlin Bassett led the scoring in round one with 48 goals from 51 attempts at 94 per cent.

#Vixens shooter Mwai Kumwenda was the most second-most accurate with 29 goals from 30 attempts at 97 per cent.

#Two Lightning players made their national league debut last weekend in Madeline McAuliffe and Cara Koenen.
