Ayer worked on the hard-hitting End of Watch and Training Day, as well as the Second World war drama Fury with Brad Pitt.

He brought a tough sensibility to his recent DC project. Although not all critics or fans were won over,  The director is currently said to be workling on the spin-off, Gotham City Sirens with Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn, alongside Poison Ivy and Catwoman. in the DC adaptation.

THE BRIGHT TRAILER IS NEXT

Netlix has spent $ 90million on the project to keep it off the big screen. Almost half the budget will go towards rewarding the big-name stars, which also include Prometheus actress Noomi Rapace as an elf, who woudl usually receive a percentage of a film’s profits after its cinema release.

The TV network signalled how serious it is about the project by debuting the trailer during the Oscars last night. The high profile talent involved and huge budget signal that Netflix is pitching itself as a major player in television and film production.

Whether the audience responds to a rather tricky premise will be revealed upon its release in December.
