Strictly Come Dancing 2019 drops line-up bombshell as codenames revealed

In past years the Strictly Come Dancing contestants have been held under codenames relating to things like cheese, Shakespearean characters, and classical gods.

Now, the theme for this year’s stars is superheroes, reports HELLO!.

The publication states the names include Batman, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Mystique, Catwoman, Hulk, Captain America and Bananaman.

There have been plenty of rumours about who will be taking part in this year’s instalment of the BBC competition.

Some of the hotly tipped stars in the mix include Alan Carr, Mrs Hinch, Radzi Chinyanganya and Natasha Hamilton.

Last year the line-up announcement was made mid-August, so fans won’t have too long to wait.

DJ Chris Evans spilled that he had “said yes” to Strictly in an appearance on The One Show last year.

However, it has since been reported that he won’t be taking part in this year’s instalment.

A source told The Mirror: “Chris had been thinking and talking about doing Strictly but in the end it won’t happen in 2019.”

There was another exciting reveal made about the show earlier in the week.

Darcey Bussell stepped down from the judging panel back in April and her replacement has now been unveiled.

Motsi Mabuse, the sister of professional dancer Oti Mabuse, will be joining as a judge when the show returns.

The dancer is also a judge on the German version of Strictly, Let’s Dance.

Motsi has said of her new position: “I am absolutely overjoyed to be joining the Strictly judging panel.

“I have so much respect and admiration for the other three judges and hope to add my own bit of sparkle to the show. I can’t wait to get started!”

Meanwhile, Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content declared: “Motsi is a brilliant addition to the show. She is a wonderful dancer in her own right and already has years of experience as a judge under her belt.

“We’re all looking forward to welcoming her to the Strictly family.”

“I am incredibly excited that Motsi Mabuse is joining the show,” added Sarah James, Executive Producer of Strictly. “Motsi’s natural warmth, energy and passion for dance makes her the perfect addition to our esteemed judging panel.”

Motsi’s younger sister Oti reacted to the news on Twitter as she posted: “Yayyyy!!!! Da da da dadada daaaaa- da dada da da.”

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in the autumn.
