Stranger Things season 2: Dustin Henderson crashes museum site – but you won't believe why

In the first episode of the second season, which debuted on October 27, 2017, Dustin (played by Gaten Matarazzo) can be seen wearing a purple hoodie which featured a dinosaur image and a logo from the Science Museum of Minnesota.

According to the news release from the museum, staff thought about selling the attire after receiving several calls, emails and social media posts from fans admiring them.

The hoodie was first available to buy from the museum in the early 1980s, and the museum began reselling the purple sweatshirts and T-shirts on Tuesday morning.

The clothing range flaunted the signature ‘Brontosaurus’ and ‘thunder lizard’ slogans with images of a dinosaur.

According to KARE11, the museum’s website crashed shortly after opening sales online and fans eagerly purchased their own Dustin inspired jumper.

Even though it was back up and running again at 11am, by 4pm they had sold 10,000 items for a total haul of $ 400,000.

Costume Designer Kim Wilcox first came up with the idea for Dustin’s hoodie and its science inspired design.

According to Newsweek, Kim found the original vintage sweatshirt “online, while hunting for period inspiration”.

“I really loved the Brontosaurus for Dustin, so we bought the original. Then we made our own purple hoodie with this great dinosaur art in Gaten’s size.”

Public relations director at the Science Museum of Minnesota, Kim Ramsden, added: “For us, we’re just relishing this opportunity to be connected to the popular show, especially one that has characters that are interested in science.”

With a price range from $ 15-$ 40, another shipping order of the Dustin’s dinosaur T-shirts and hoodies will be available on Wednesday.

Profits from selling Dustin’s inspired apparel goes to the museum’s education programme, working to inspire the youth’s interest in science.

Stranger Things season 3 is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2018.
