Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off: Bad news as Ewan McGregor 'joins ANOTHER Disney film'?

The actor, who recently played down whispers of his own anthology story with Lucasfilm, is reportedly in talks to play Christopher Robin in a film of the same name.

The project is not to be confused with A.A. Milne biopic Goodbye, Christopher Robin; which will star Domhnall Gleeson.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, McGregor is the top choice to play the role, though nothing is set in stone just yet.

Whether or not this has any impact on rumoured Obi-Wan plans – if indeed any exist at all – remains to be seen.

Disney’s Christopher Robin does not have a release date as of yet, although the recently-unveiled slate showed 15 untitled slots for live-action movies before 2021, so it seems fair to assume that this will be one of them.

Marc Foster, who helmed Finding Neverland, is said to be on board to direct.

Alison Schroeder, who worked on Hidden Figures, is said to be on board to work the script; which was reportedly first drafted by Alex Ross Perry.

The plot and tone of the venture remain unclear, although it seems likely that it’ll be a more poignant, mature caper than the bright, colourful Winnie-the-Pooh cartoons.

Meanwhile, as for the Star Wars Obi-Wan spin-off, it has been speculated that it could be announced at D23 in July.

However, McGregor recently said: “There’s no official offer, and I haven’t met them about it or anything. But I’ve always said that I’d be happy to do it if they wanted to do it. It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes.

“I think they’ve got films to make until the 2020s, so I don’t think it’s going to happen soon if it happens at all.”
