The 45-year-old actor played a younger version of Sir Alec Guinness’ character in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
It’s now been twelve years since Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, which is set 19 years before Episode IV: A New Hope.
With this in mind it is perfectly feasible for McGregor to return for a Rogue One style spin-off set in the intervening years, especially as he’s aged naturally too.
Speaking with Business Insider, he reaffirmed previous comments about how he really would be up for an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off.
He revealed: “Listen, I have been asked about it a lot, to the point where it looks a bit like I’m sort of touting for work.
“I’ve been very open to say I’d be happy to do it, if they want to do it.”
While last October, McGregor said: “I’d love to! Whenever I talk about it, I give the impression that I’m begging for work, it’s embarrassing.
“In fact, I always thought there was a story to tell between the last and the first film with Alec Guinness.”
He added: “There are no plans, no one has approached me. But I’d be willing to get involved.
“It would be fun to return to that story now that I’m older.
“I am the right age for that matter. I’m 45, Alec Guinness was 60? I could do two of them!”
With Star Wars Celebration coming up next month and the 2020 Star Wars spin off yet to be announced, could McGregor’s Obi-Wan solo movie be announced then? Fans will have to wait and see.
