Star Wars 8: Fan FURY at 'sh****y' Luke storyline – And Mark Hamill is not happy, either

The new Star Wars movie has only been out for 24 hours.

Unusually, while the critcs have given it almost universally positive reviews, many fans who flocked to the first screenings are venting their fury with the treatment of the most iconc character in the entire franchise, saying he “deserved better.”

Even actor Mark Hamill, himself, has made constant references to his uneasiness with Luke’s role in the new trilogy.

Now, it seems he may have been right with one fan comment blasting the movie: “I see why Hamill hates Disney Star Wars, embarrassing him with TFA and then he fundamentally disagrees with TLJ script because he and George knew where the character should go.”

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT

Hamill’s early comments revealed that when he first read the script he was very unhappy with Luke’s fate. He then conceeded that he had been won over by Rian Johnson’s vision.

However, this week he added that he regretted that much of George Lucas’ original vision for Episode 8 had been ruined.

All the previous rumours and leaks hinted that Luke would turn to the Dark Side, which had not pleased die-hard fans, or that he would never use a lightsaber again.

Instead, theer were uncomfortable scenes of him ‘milking’ a sea monster, appearing to have done nothing except sulk for years on Ahch-To. Then he turned so completely to the Force in the closing scenes that he ‘died’, leaving many angry with his dismissal and furious that Luke may not feature in Episode 9.

Luke’s transcendent moment of submitting to the Force and ceasing to exist on this plane, echoed the path of his teacher, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

However, it undermined the entire preceeding scenes, including his touching reunion with Leia and then the jaw-dropping moment he appeared to survive a huge bombardment before his climactic battle with Kylo Ren.

It was revealed he had Force projected his image across the galaxy in a huge bluff to give the remaining Resistance a chance to escape.

A noble sacrifice but one that left fans extremely unhappy.

Comments flooded the internet like: “Luke dies a sh**ty death.” Another went further and blasted: “There isn’t a single character who isn’t left ruined by this movie. Not one that I can think of.”

One asked: “What exactly did Luke do with all his free time on Acht-To?”

Another complained: “Just been to see The Last Jedi. It was awful. Did we really need to see Luke milk an alien?”

One unhappy fan summed up the general feeling when he said: ” Say it with me, Luke Skywalker DESERVED BETTER.”
