Sixth Sense child star then and now: What happened to Haley Joel Osment? He’s 30 today

The US actor, whose first film credit was as Forrest Gump, Jr in 1994’s Forrest Gump, won huge acclaim for his role in the Bruce Willis horror movie – including an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

He went on to score more success in movies such as A.I. Artificial Intelligence, for which he was nominated for an Empire Award for Best Actor.

So what happened since?

Osment has continued to act, racking up an impressive number of credits over the years.

His CV boasts impressive work in both film and TV, including most recently in The X-Files episode Kitten, playing Davey James.

He’s also had work in Silicon Valley, Drunk History, Family Guy, Ally McBeal, Alpha House and Hey Arnold!.

He’ll be recongisable to gamers as the voice of Sora in the Kingdom Hearts series, and he’s also voiced parts in a couple of Disney sequels – namely The Hunchback of Notre Dame II and The Jungle Book 2.

His latest movie, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile, is in post-production.

Osment boasts almost 30,000 Twitter followers, and has worked on stage too: he was in the Broadway revival of American Buffalo alongside Cedric The Entertainer.

He has spoken often about his early success, insisting he never had pushy parents.

“I think they worried a lot about what might happen to me along the way,” he told the New Yorker in 2014.

“Being the parent of a kid in the industry often causes people to question motivations. They wonder: ‘Are the parents being exploitative?’

“My audition with Tom Hanks for ‘Forrest Gump’ was memorable not because I was going to meet a Hollywood star but because we were due to go on a camping trip in South Carolina immediately afterwards.

“At that time the work was easy-going.”

His sister is the actress and singer Emily Osment, 26.
