Sean Bean reveals his favourite of MANY on-screen deaths: ‘It’s a big f**king moment’

The actor’s characters rarely make it out of their respective shows and films in one piece.

He’s met grizzly ends in Patriot Games, GoldenEye and Game of Thrones – but it’s another project altogether that sticks out in his mind.

Asked by Entertainment Weekly about his favourite fictional demise, he opted for Boromir in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

The character bravely took several arrows to protect Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) from harm.

“It’s my favourite death scene, and I’ve done a few,” he quipped. “You couldn’t ask for a more heroic death.

“You can’t show off. You can’t be vain or posing. Because every time you die, it’s a big f**king moment!”

Other projects Bean’s characters have died in include The Field, Equilibrium,  TV’s Henry VIII, The Island, The Hitcher and Black Death.

Lord of the Rings may be long gone now but Sir Ian McKellen is set to revive his own character, Gandalf, for a London theatre special this summer.

Tickets for his performances at the Park Theatre sold out at lightning speed, after he promised: “I’m performing at Park Theatre to help raise funds for the charity. In a short time the theatre has established itself on both the theatrical and local maps.

“But with no public subsidy for core costs they need to bring in donations of around £250,000 every year just to keep the doors open.”

Shakespeare, Tolkien, Others & You will be performing 3-9 July this year.
