Ant and Dec usually host Saturday Night Takeaway together, but following Ant McPartlin’s drink-drive charge, Dec decided to present the final two shows on his own to honour viewers who had won a trip to Florida on the final show.
However, during their weekly segment titled Saturday Knight Takeaway, Dec took to the audience seats to munch on some popcorn.
When the mini-series ended, Dec walked down the studio stairs and handed his popcorn to the floor manager.
The audience gasped when Dec returned to the stage, leaving the 42-year-old presenter concerned that something had happened.
It turned out that he had dropped the popcorn off-screen.
Dec chuckled and said: “Did I drop the popcorn? I dropped the popcorn! Sorry Vicky!”
The camera then broadcast a shot of the popcorn all over the studio floor.
Fans found the blunder hilarious and instantly took to social media.
One viewer tweeted: “I got such a fright when the audience gasped so dramatically. Dec only dropped the bl**dy popcorn #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”
“Out of everything they could have gone wrong tonight, I think Declan will be happy with dropping the popcorn! #SaturdayNightTakeaway,” posted another.
A third added: “And that will be the last time Dec eats popcorn live #saturdaynighttakeaway.”
“He dropped the popcorn. Dec’s doing a phenomenal job on his own tonight #SaturdayNightTakeaway,” gushed another.
A fifth said: “Can’t believe how well your doing Dec!! Couldn’t stop laughter when you dropped the popcorn. So much love and respect for you @antanddec #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”
“Dec dropped the popcorn everywhere #SaturdayNightTakeaway,” chuckled another.
Earlier while opening the show this evening, Dec walked down the set of stairs giving high-fives to the audience on his own.
As the audience gave Dec a warm welcome with a big applause, he said: “Thank you very much indeed. Thank you for that very warm welcome.”
He continued: “I really appreciate it! Welcome…” before stopping to take a deep sigh of breath.
Dec carried on and said: “Welcome once again to your Saturday Night Takeaway. Still the only show on telly that says, ‘Don’t just watch the adverts, win them!”
Speaking to the audience, Dec said: “Have a seat, we’ve got a jam packed show this week.
“We’ve got lots to cram in and I have twice the amount of work to do… so we’re going to crack on.”
Saturday Night Takeaway concludes next Saturday on ITV at 7pm.
