Roger Federer: Tennis legend TOLD OFF for winning Rotterdam Open

Federer created history last week when he became the oldest No 1 in the men’s game aged 36 when he beat Robin Haase in the quarter-finals of the Rotterdam Open.

The Swiss legend went on to win the tournament to take his 97th ATP career title – 12 short of the record held by Jimmy Connors.

In clinching the Rotterdam Open, Federer picked up the trophy for the third time.

And tournament director Kraijeck, who won the competition twice, has joked that he thought he a pact in place with the world No 1 not to beat his record.

The 1996 Wimbledon champion said: “Roger, I’m a little bit upset.

“I told you already. You called me up and said, ‘I want to be No 1’.

“I said, ‘Okay, I can give you a place to be No 1 but I said you can’t break my record.

“We have won the tournament twice and I want to keep it like that.

“Then, what do you do today? Okay, I forgive you!

“Well done Roger and I’m so happy you won.

“It’s just a joy to see you play and I am proud you chose Rotterdam to be the place to regain the No 1 spot.”
