Heavyweight contenders for the biggest specimen prizes included gigantic cabbages and marrows.
They were on show at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show and were the highlight of the start of the three-day festival at the Great Yorkshire Showground yesterday.
Organisers are expecting 40,000 visitors over the weekend.
The heaviest marrow belonged to serial winner Peter Glazebrook, who beat the competition with a whopping 147lb entry.
Peter, from Newark, Notts, also managed to bag the heaviest onion prize with a 14lb monster.
Joe Atherton, from Mansfield, showed his versatility by bagging top spot in three classes with a 6lb potato, 9lb carrot and 37lb beetroot.
Ian Neale grew a mammoth 56lb cabbage in his garden in Newport, while Richard Mann from Leeds produced a 685lb pumpkin.
Marketing officer Camilla Harrison said: “What the autumn show offers is a celebration of the harvest and all the wonderful produce that everyone has worked so hard for over the year.”
Other big highlights of the show this year include the plant nursery pavilion, autumn garden borders and the feast food theatre.
