Real Madrid news: Cristiano Ronaldo future discussed by Zidane amid Ballon d'Or win

That’s the verdict of Bernabeu boss Zinedine Zidane, who reckons the Portuguese star is the greatest footballer of all time.

Ronaldo has scored 418 goals and won 13 trophies since joining Real from Manchester United in an £80m deal in 2009.

And his achievements in 2017 were recognised on Thursday night when he was handed the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.

Ronaldo has been tipped to move back to United or try his hand in the MLS before his career draws to a close.

But Zidane, who came third in the running for the Ballon d’Or in 1997, believes Ronaldo will retire as a Real player.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the history of football because what he’s doing, no one has done, and what he’s going to do is impressive,” said Zidane.

“A lot has been said about him and there are no more words to define him. What he’s doing every day on the pitch is phenomenal.

“A player could come here for 10, 15, 20 years and not achieve what he has here.

“He’s the club’s history and I hope he’s here until he retires doing what he does.

“I see Cristiano here forever. There’s always the same debate, if Cristiano is happy or not here. But everyone wants him at Real Madrid and we want that.

“He’s at the best club in the world and he will end [his career] here… There’s no debate because he’s said it and there’s no need for more words.”

Ronaldo will be hoping to impress when Real play host to Sevilla in La Liga tomorrow afternoon (3.15pm).
