Radio 1 Big Weekend: Manchester bombing victims honoured with powerful tribute – WATCH

Nick Grimshaw asked the tens of thousands of gathered festivalgoers to unite in a minute of quiet.

“Obviously, like you guys, all of us at Radio 1 have been thinking about Manchester all week,” he said.

“We’ve been completely heartbroken and we thought it might be nice if we could take a minute’s silence for everyone who lost their lives in Manchester on Monday.

“After that, we’re gonna make as much noise as we can – as a community of music lovers.”

After the emotional silence, he prompted an overwhelming cheer.

Also at the two-day event, Zara Larson – the opening act – paid her own respects.

Introducing her song Symphony, she said: “I know there’s a lot of genres of music but music itself it doesn’t have a religion, a country, or an ethnicity.

“It’s something that we do and it unites us all – and I want this song to be dedicated to what happened in Manchester, because it’s about wanting to be a part of someones Symphony, someone’s life, and that to me is the most important thing.”
