Prue Leith SLAMMED by This Morning viewers over 'insulting' suicide comment: 'Get a grip'

The judge was chatting to hosts and when she made the comment, leaving many watching at home furious.

When asked how she felt when she realised she had leaked the winner of the competition, the 77-year-old explained: “I quickly tweeted what I did and as soon as it went I thought, ‘Oh my god,’ and went into panic mode.

“Then I couldn’t work my phone and eventually I rang my PA and she said, ‘I’ve already deleted it.’ And that was 89 seconds after I had done it.”

Phillip then asked how she felt in the aftermath, and Prue simply replied: “Suicidal. I mean awful. The thing that upset me most was I thought this will take the attention off the winner and Sophie has worked for months and months for this moment.”

“The winner for Bake Off has been kept secret for eight years until I came along and screwed it up,” Prue concluded.

Following her remark about her reaction to the accidental tweet, This Morning viewers rushed to Twitter to slam her “unwise” choice of words.

One fan of the ITV show tweeted: “Suicidal over a silly tweet?? Pls  #ThisMorning.”

Another added: “Suicidal. That’s rather insulting to those suffering mental health issues Prue. Unwise choice of word. #ThisMorning.”

“She was suicidal because of a tweet? Get a grip Prue – there are more important things to worry about #thismorning,” a third continued.

While someone else wrote: “#ThisMorning she didn’t actually feel “suicidal” though did she? One of those people who obviously doesn’t think before she tweets, or speaks.”

airs weekdays on at 10.30am.
