The Good Morning Britain presenter demanded to know where Tom had gained information about Prince Charles for the biography as they discussed a number of the claims he made about royal.
Susanna Reid left Tom squirming as she pressed him on whether or not he had contacted the prince to check if any of the anecdotes included in the book were true.
“Did you speak to Prince Charles?” the ITV star asked.
Tom simply replied: “No.”
“So really all of this is hearsay?” Susanna probed.
Appearing slightly annoyed by her questioning, Tom hit back: “No it’s not.”
“Have you had any response? It’s intensely personal,” the 47-year-old pressed.
Tom defended himself, noting: “I have spoken to people who were very close to him.”
Susanna went to press Tom on topics including Prince Charles’ relationship with his father Prince Philip, his sons Prince Harry and Prince William, and what he believes the royal thinks of Meghan Markle.
The author later announced that the subject of his next book will be Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Following the rather intense segment, Susanna was left red-faced when she made a blunder ahead of another interview.
After watching a clip of Mark Zuckerberg talking about Facebook to introduce the next guest, MP Matt Hancock, Susanna went to do a time check.
“Oh excuse me, sorry,” she said looking rather flustered. “I don’t why I was about to do a time check. I was a bit shocked by that interview.”
Her co-host Ben Shephard could be heard giggling at her error as he stepped in to introduce Matt.
Laughing at her blunder, Matt joked: “I wish my interviews had that kind of reaction.”
