Initially Tariq St Patrick (played by Michael Rainey Jr) looked up to his father Ghost (Omari Hardwick) but following his affair with Angela Valdes (Lela Loren) and leaving his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) struggling to look after their three kids, he turned on the businessman and drug dealer. Tariq caused all sorts of problems for his parents but while Tasha stood by his side, Ghost insisted he handed himself in for killing Ray Ray.
Keen not to let his father stand in the way of his future, Tariq shot his father in nightclub Truth in the season six finale of Power.
Now with Ghost dead and Tasha taking the blame as she’s locked behind bars, Tariq is head of the family.
He feels the pressure to live up to Ghost’s expectations but also to do better than his father.
But it seems Tariq may not be able to move on from his father as quickly as he may have hoped.
“He’s grown so much physically, emotionally, so I’m super proud of Michael. I can’t wait for the world to see this.”
There are two people who could be revealed to be Tariq’s real father – Kanan (Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson) or Breeze, who viewers have only heard about it.
Also in the backstage clip, Naturi warned fans the series will not be the same as Power was.
She detailed: “I know it’s gonna be hard to close the chapter of Power, but trust me, we got you. So get ready.”
Method Man, who plays Tasha’s defence lawyer, David McLean, added: “I give all the credit to the cast that came before this show was even established.
“It wouldn’t be this show if the original cast didn’t put it down the way they did, because they created this world and we’re just a part of it right now.”
Power season 6 is available to stream on Netflix. Power Book II: Ghost will premiere September 6 on Starz.
