Poldark season 3 spoiler: Heida Reed teases the REAL father of Elizabeth's baby

The 29-year-old actress – who plays noble woman Elizabeth Warleggan in the BBC costume drama – said in a recent interview that if the child’s father was Ross Poldark (played by Aidan Turner) then her alter-ego could face serious consequences.

Speaking to the Radio Times, she speculated about the truth, explaining: “I don’t think Elizabeth has a very clear feeling about the paternity of her child, because it’s so terrifying to her that it might not be George’s.”

The Icelandic actress went on to say: “If it isn’t and it gets found out, she is in so much trouble. I mean, her life is over.”

Heida also said that the fear about the truth coming out – which remains ambiguous at the moment – makes it hard for Elizabeth to bond with her child.

The star added: “She fades, she gets colder, loses patience and loses empathy. So I really don’t see Ross’ fans warming up to her, but I hope that, once she’s gone through her journey, they see the beautiful sadness in her life.”

Her words come after the first episode of season three of Poldark hit our screens over the weekend and saw Elizabeth giving birth to the child in question.

However, the creators of Poldark have hinted that the father of the child will remain unknown without a firm answer ever being given.

Executive producer Karen Thrussell recently spoke to press, including Express.co.uk, about the gripping storyline, elaborating: “We don’t know who the father is, in the books it is not clear – it is up to us.”

During the Q&A with the cast, heartthrob Aidan, 33, couldn’t resist quipping that the youngster would have a “little scar” – just like his Cornish alter ego.

“And the curly hair?” Karen laughed. “It’s just not clear. In those days it was really difficult, there were no paternity tests.

“We just don’t know. Neither does Elizabeth, not for certain. Neither does Ross or Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) – we will have to go on guessing.”

Along with Elizabeth’s baby, it was revealed that Ross was expecting another child with his wife Demelza which sent fans into meltdown.
