Pokemon Go update: Fans unimpressed by Gen 2 can try Nintendo’s next Pocket Monster game

While Niantic look to have a solid roadmap to follow and several more major Pokemon Go updates to release this year, Nintendo have not being resting on their laurels.

In fact, a new Pokemon title for Android and iOS was recently announced by the Pokemon Company, roughly translated as Splash! Magikarp.

A new site for the mobile game has been set up and will appear to feature gameplay based around everyone’s favourite flapping fish.

A new teaser page has been found, featuring a newspaper article showing a screenshot of two Magikarp-shaped holes in the ground.

The backstory apparently involves a fisherman finding the odd phenomenon in the middle of his town, which doesn’t really tell us much about gameplay.

The other drawback is that while it has a solid Spring 2017 release slot in place for Japan, there has been no word on whether it is coming to western markets at the same time.

If you don’t find yourself being enticed by the new offering, there’s always the chance of reinvigorating your interest in Pokemon Go with the next major update.

It was revealed today by Niantic that there will be at least two more major releases this year that will look to be on the same scale as the recent Gen 2 rollout.

A launch in July seems a likely date for the next Pokemon Go update, which many believe will includes some kind of PvP mechanic.

Before the big release in February, Niantic confirmed that trading and PvP gameplay were some of the big additions that were being planned for 2017.

John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, shared the exciting Pokemon Go news during the Mobile World Congress today, as part of the “The Content Goldrush” panel.

Hanke confirmed that three updates were coming to Pokemon Go this year, Gen 2 being the first.

According to reports, trading is not a priority, leaving a new Player-v-Player feature as a possible contender.
