Pippa Middleton wedding: Do her nuptials compare to her sister the Duchess' LAVISH day?

Kate, 35, may have married into royalty, but that hasn’t stopped Pippa, 33, trying her best to having a wedding to match up to her sister’s.

Pippa is marrying financier James Matthews, 41, brother of reality TV star Spencer, at St Mark’s Church in Englefield.

The wedding courted some controversy after it was rumoured Pippa had enforced a ‘no ring no bring’ policy, something she has since relaxed to allow Prince Harry’s girlfriend Meghan Markle, 35, to attend.

So from the grooms to the gowns, the venues to the food, Express.co.uk looks at which sister enjoyed the priciest day.

Wedding dresses

Kate wore a couture Alexander McQueen dress for her wedding to Prince William, 34, in 2011, and it was rumoured to have cost £250,000 – although this was a claim the Palace dismissed at the time.

She then changed into a Jenny Packham gown for the evening reception, which she paired with a fur bolero.

Pippa is rumoured to have chosen Giles Deacon to design her dress after he was spotted going to her home in November, spending two hours with her and her mother Carole. A bespoke creation by the designer costs around £10,000.

Bridal bouquet

Pippa is rumoured to have approached Lavender Green after being spotted making regular visits to their Fulham-based store.

The florists are used to providing blooms for luxury weddings, and their website boasts pictures of creations they have made for nuptials at Kensington Palace and Hampton Court Palace.

Kate chose a simple lily of the valley bouquet for her day, and filled Westminster Abbey with British grown blooms.

Venues

Kate tied the knot at Westminster Abbey followed by a reception at Buckingham Palace.

The cost of these venues are unknown – as the only people allowed to marry at Westminster Abbey are British royalty, members of the Order of the Bath or anyone who lives in the Abbey’s precincts. These residents are overwhelmingly religious people who won’t in fact ever marry.

Non-royals can host private tours at Buckingham Palace, although you are not allowed to dine there. Prices range from £115 – £400 per head.

St Mark’s Church in Englefield sits on private land owned by Conservative MP Richard Benyon, and the cost of marrying there is unknown. Pippa will hold her evening reception in a marquee erected on her parent’s estate.

The glass structure, rumoured to have cost £100,000 is large enough to fit around 300 guests. The process is being overseen by Peppers Marquees, which holds the only royal warrant for supplying marquees to the Prince of Wales.

Wedding Party

Kate had her sister attend to her as Maid of Honour when she wed, as well as four bridesmaids and two page boys.

Pippa will not be calling on Kate for her big day however, as tradition dictates bridesmaids can only be unmarried women. Instead, Prince George and Princess Charlotte will serve as page boy and bridesmaid for Pippa.

Prince William broke with royal protocal to have his brother as his best man, and James is doing the same, with Spencer, 27, playing the role for his big brother’s day.

Wedding cake

The royal wedding cake was designed by Fiona Cairns, and was a staggering eight tiers. Fiona’s wedding cakes start at £500 for a simple design, so the royal cake was sure to have cost thousands of pounds.

Pippa is rumoured to haven commissioned London based Domino Puchas Contemporary Cakes to make her sweet. Their cakes start at £200, although according E! News, Pippa has spent £2,300 on her bespoke creation.
