During a heated debate about what can be done to protect the country after Friday’s failed tube bombing attempt at Parsons Green, Piers called for an increase in resources in the country.
The 52-year-old insisted: “We need to flood communities with more support officers. Who cut them? Theresa May.
“The biggest mistake this country made was scrapping community officers,” Piers added.
This comes after two men were arrested in West London in connection with the attack.
Aged at just 18 and 21, the two suspects were reportedly in foster homes after coming over to the UK to escape the war torn conditions.
However for Piers, these arrests highlight more problems with the system as he argued: “What really worries me about this story is that this 18-year-old was living with foster parents and he had lost control.
“You have this troubled kid, the police have been dealing with him…who is picking up a kid like that?
“I don’t see a system saying we’ve got to look at this boy,” the outspoken presenter added.
Colonel Richard Kemp also took part in the heated exchange and provided Good Morning Britain viewers with a tougher alternative.
The former COBRA member insisted: “Depending on which figures you listen to we have thousands of concerns and we have more than that which have been foiled.
“We’ve got about 60 investigations into terrorism. What we have to do is manage the number we’re concerned about by getting them out of the country.
“We’re prioritising the human rights of terrorists – we have to deport them in large numbers out of the countries,” he added, before also calling once more for internment.
However, former Metropolitan superintendent Dal Babu insisted that the problem is with internet companies who need to take bigger steps from blocking certain content that could be used for radicalisation.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
