Outlander season 4 spoilers: Claire Fraser star reveals BIG changes in marriage to Jamie

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of time-travel drama Outlander for nearly a year and as the show finally gears up explode onto screens once more stars Sam Heughan and Catriona have been sharing various tidbits on exactly what the pair have in store.

Viewers already know the married couple washed up on the shores of the American colonies in last season’s finale, and will be setting up home in North Caroline at a place they eventually call Frasers’ Ridge.

After they survived a terrifying ship-wreck and 20 years apart, many fans may wonder what the Frasers can’t take in the hit series.

It seems the couple come back stronger than ever in season four, and Irish star Caitriona, 38, has revealed they have become “a solid team” ahead of the show’s next drama.

Speaking in a video interview with Entertainment Tonight, she shared: “Yeah they’ve got the chance to explore what their relationship is without the external forces ripping them apart in the same way as we have previously.”

“It’s a more mature relationship, there’s a deeper love there,” the star continued. “It may not be the kind of on-the-surface passion that you have when you’re first falling in love but the passion runs deeper.

“And yeah they’re just a really solid team this season, which I think is a really nice thing for us to be able to play.”

The Spy Who Dumped Me actor Sam echoed his on-screen wife’s sentiments, saying their characters finally have the opportunity to “breathe” on the STARZ drama.

He said: “We get to see them working or functioning with each other in very domestic situations.

“It’s really nice to be able to interact with each other and, I think, for once, we get to breathe for a short time.”

Addressing the way Claire and Jamie constantly come back to each other no matter the drama keeping them apart, Caitriona shared her romantic view of the couple.

“I think they’re soulmates,” she said, seeking approval from her co-star with a glance. “I think they push each other to be the best versions of themselves.”

“And now they really understand each other you know,” Sam cut in. “They’ve been through a lot – I mean we have been through a lot.”

“Yeah there’s a real understanding there and this season, without giving away spoilers, they find a place that they can call home and that for them is something that they’ve always wanted,” the star added.

Earlier this year, Sam accidentally revealed a huge spoiler for the show’s fourth offering, suggesting a much wider plan being put in place.

Speaking to Elle.com, he said: “It’s a dangerous place. I think season four is really setting the scene for five and six, too, which we recently got commissioned for.

“It is a big arc – a big, long story,” he added.

What will be the latest danger for Jamie and Claire, and will it involve the arrival of their daughter Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton)?

Outlander season four returns to STARZ and Amazon Prime Video November 4.
