New five pound notes could make you a whopping £20,000 if they have THIS serial number

The new five pound notes which have been making some people a hefty profit are considered rare because of certain serial numbers they display.

This particular rare note, which has reached a whopping £20,100 on eBay, with just over a day left for people to place bids, entered circulation in September last year.

It was first spotted by ThisisMoney.co.uk after the seller emailed the financial website to notify them of the high number of bids.

And it appears to be a hit with collectors because of its serial number AA01 444444.

One lucky seller found himself with two freshly minted AA01 notes and sold them for a total of £442.

The most valuable notes are ones where the rest of the serial number is also in the low digits.

The very lowest serial number, on the first note printed, was given to the Queen.

Notes marked with AA02 can also fetch as much as £20 on sites such as eBay.

Fivers with an AK47 serial number – the name of a popular semi-automatic rifle – could also be worth more than face value.

There are currently fake £5 notes circulating across Britain.

When the polymer note was launched last year, it was believed criminals would find it impossible to counterfeit.

However it has now emerged the design has been copied on to paper in some cases, despite bank bosses saying they were unaware of any forgeries.
