Are you ready for an R-rated Clue movie? I sure hope so, because writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who are developing a new Clue film with Ryan Reynolds, say that just might happen.

It was that son of a bitch Colonel Mustard, in the goddamn study, with the motherfucking candlestick.

You might remember that Ryan Reynolds is developing a brand new Clue movie with Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Reynolds is hotter than ever in Hollywood right now, and he can seemingly throw his clout around to get any project he wants made. Which means a new Clue movie must be a passion project for the actor, for whatever reason. But don’t expect the new Clue to be a carbon copy of 1985 film adaptation. For one thing, Reese and Wernick say the new film has the potential to be R-rated, just like the Deadpool films all the kids seem to love. In an interview with MTV, Wernick said:

“Don’t be surprised if Clue is an R-rated… Potentially.”

I’m not sure why anyone would need an R-Rated Clue movie, but sure, go nuts! Make the most vulgar Clue movie you can, Ryan Reynolds. The world is your oyster.

As for what else we can expect from the potentially R-rated Clue movie, Reese and Wernick went on to say we can expect “elements” from the 1985 film to pop-up, but their Clue will still very much be its own thing:

“It will have elements of [the original movie], but it’s important that we don’t try and just rehash it. We want to build on it. We want to take some of what makes it fun and funny, but then we want to do our own thing. It’s about finding that balance. Hopefully we don’t upset the Clue-hounds because there are a lot of them apparently. We didn’t realize this until we signed up.”

Are you a “Clue-hound”, reader? Have you devoted your life to worshipping a pretty funny 1985 comedy starring Christopher Lloyd? If so, you can rest easy knowing that Reese and Wernick are taking this assignment seriously (or, as seriously as one can take a Clue movie, at least).

Clue began its long life as an English board game called Cluedo – the name was changed to Clue when it made its way to the States. In the game, three to six players set up around a board that maps out a sprawling mansion. Players must discover which of the game’s characters – Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs. Peacock, Mr, Green, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White  – is a murderer. Not only that, but you also have to figure out what murder weapon they used – knife, lead pipe, rope, candlestick, revolver, wrench – and in what room they used it – kitchen, ballroom, conservatory, dining room, billiard room, library, lounge, hall, study.

That’s right, I just provided a synopsis for the game Clue for you. You’re welcome.
