Who stars in Mirzapur?

The cast of Mirzapur is packed full of highly acclaimed and award-winning actors.

Karan Anshuman, creator of Mirzapur, said, “Mirzapur is the perfect storm. The creative freedom Amazon Prime Video allows, Excel’s adroit production experience, an ensemble cast that takes an already fantastic script and owns it….this is a fine time for filmmakers and I’m looking forward to new collaborations.“

Ali Fazal plays Guddu Pandit, the son of lawyer Ramakant Pandit, played by Rajesh Tailing.

Guddu meets Munna, who is played by Divyendu Sharma.

Munna is the son of a mafia boss and millionaire carpet exporter Akhandanand Tripathi/Kalin Bhaiya, played by Pankaj Tripathi. Bhaiya is the name he gives on account for his carpet business.

Guddu gets himself trouble when he starts to hang out with Munna and his brother Bablu more, getting drawn deep into a world of violence.

Bablu is played by Vikrant Massey.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk Fazal teased about his character Guddu and why he was attracted to the role.

The star said: “He is definitely way unlike what I am or what I have done in the past, so I was surprised they cast me. I didn’t see myself ever doing something like this but it was exciting.

“I mean sure, guns and violence and everything is good, its great, it’s exciting but this particular character, he changes over time and it’s a beautiful drag that he has from episode one to episode nine. They are two different people.

“I had to build a lot of muscle for this. I had to sort of go through a major body transformation which was hectic. I put on like 12 kilograms of muscles, 10 kilograms, I don’t know but it was s*** loads. I remember eating a lot. It was fun and I was looking different it was good and very fresh.

“My character’s all heart. He is a short-tempered guy and then you see how he was exploited and how he starts to get into the wrong business and riding with his brother.”

“I saw the writing and I thought the writing was just fabulous because I myself was iffy about getting myself into filming an entire series. I wasn’t sure because I have only done film, I have never done something like this but then I see it and thought, ‘hell why not’.”

Other cast members in Mirzapur include Shweta Tripathi as Golu Gupta, Shriya Pilgaonkar as Sweety Gupta, Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi, Harshita Gaur as Dimpi Pandit and Kulbhushan Kharbanda as Bauji.

What is Mirzapur about?

The show is set in Mirzapur, India and revolves around drugs, guns and the politics of power.

Fazal said: “It sort of tracks the growth of these two brothers [Guddu and Bablu] and how they sort of eventually get moulded into the whole system that revolves around gun trade and the drug trade and how these guys could conceive it and sell it.

“This was being done in so many ways, so many interesting ways that people still haven’t been able to decipher the whole process. This story is spanning this whole world in the city corners of Mirzapur.”
