Martine McCutcheon left fearing for her life after being sexually harrassed

The former EastEnders star and the rest of the panel – which comprised of Ruth Langsford, Penny Lancaster and Linda Robson – were talking about the emergence of a video which showed a young lady being cat-called by two men in a van.

When the woman told the unidentified men to stop making such inappropriate remarks, one of which saw them ask if she was “on her period”, she was then the victim of a tyrant of abuse, reminding Martine, 40, of a similarly horrible fate she once suffered.

“I lived in South Kensington at the time, I had a little flat there. I was walking past the Natural History Museum and this car with a foreign number plate drove past me,” she began.

“They started shouting violent sexual comments about what they were going to do to me, then another one would say something.

“As I went to tell them to go away one of them got hold of my coat collar and grabbed me. I was worried if I tried to pull away and they stopped that the wheels would go over my feet.”

Clearly still haunted by the ordeal, she continued: “I thought, ‘This is it. They’re going to drag me in their car and do whatever they’re going to do to me’.”

Out of nowhere, Martine revealed that a black cab driver pulled around the corner and stopped in front of the car.

“He said, ‘Stay there!’ and then got hold of the guy by the collar and said, ‘Who do you think you are? Don’t you dare do that to anybody’.

“They then drove off and he took me to a petrol garage and got me a can of Coke and made sure I was OK. He then took me to my friend’s party and when I offered him money he didn’t want it, even though I was quite well-known at the time.”

The incident prompted Ruth to recount a scary experience she suffered at the hands of a male driver, admitting that a man once threatened to ram her off of the road and shouted expletives at her when she was heavily pregnant.

She divulged: “I was very heavily pregnant, I was at the traffic lights in one of those lanes that filters off.

“Half a second I hadn’t pulled off man in the van beeped. I drove off and did [gesticulated waving her hand] in my window. I just waved.

“He might have thought I did something else he came alongside me and was coming over the white line and shouting and screaming the worst abuse at me. I was so frightened.”
